Having lived in Monterey some years ago and in town for the jazz festival, I wasn't familiar with the shop and especially in this location as it's a pass through to get on highway one and you could easily pass by it without notice. I didn't see any used records here but there was a large selection of the usual music genres stocked - jazz, r&b, rock, etc.. Having checked out many shops in the area I would say that this shop has the largest selection of new vinyl available on the peninsula.

I'm so glad that I stopped in as I found a rare Tank And The Bangas album that I had never seen before and it was well below the price in Discogs so I had to pick it up ! The overall layout of the shop is different from what I remember and overall the number of new releases available was surprising. Street parking on Lighthouse Ave was easy and didn't require feeding a meter which was nice.

I've been into mystery's and thrillers lately and had forgotten a book at home, so I wanted something to read on the beach. This place is packed with books, with an interesting lay out, and a chill vibe. My husband and I probably spent 90 mins looking at books and the staff left us alone, only asking if we needed help once. The best part...they were having a big sale so both books were under 4 bucks. I came across this place on my visit to Monterey and decided I would go and check out the store. I went with my wife and three kids ages 7, 5 and 8 months old. I was carrying my 8 month old in her baby carrier. As I opened the door to the business, an older bearded man with long hair who worked behind the counter prevented my family from entering the store saying that the business was full and he did not want children in the store. He went on to say there was also water damage which is not my problem and completely unprofessional to tell a first time customer. The man was extremely rude and appeared bothered by me and my family. I responded by saying that I would take my business elsewhere and he slammed the door shut behind me like a child! Never have I experienced such a rude and disrespectful attitude from a business. My children asked why the man was so angry and I told them that it wasn't their fault and we would not support a business who treats people that way. I will never go here and will make sure all of my friends and family stay clear of this place. I come from a family with military and law enforcement backgrounds and this man made me and my family feel less than and unwelcome as first time customers! This was a bizarre and wild experience as a proud American to endure.

Although the layout is average for a store itself kinda cramped when walking through the store. I always raid their movies section, because I still collect physical media and I'm NOT on board with streaming, I never leave streetlight empty handed. The best part? NONE OF THIS IS CRAZY EXPENSIVE! I left the store with four movies, I could've easily got more but I decided to get the HELL OUT OF THERE before my wallet took a huge dive. Props for staying in business and truthfully I would rather support places that have knowledge about what they're doing, rather than your typical generic-random-big chain store - thank you for the hospitality and I am satisfied with my purchases, please keep up the great work! I was sent home with completely the wrong product after the bud tender spent multiple minutes reading said product and even verbally confirming what I had asked for. They made me pay the $8.47 difference after making a rushed trip back to the store for their mistake... Moral of the story double check your products at the store because they won't do much for you if they make a mistake even if you're such a regular customer that some of the bud tenders know you by name. I went in & asked a female bud tender (I haven't seen her before, maybe she's new or I just haven't come in at the time she's there) for Sluggers juiced blunts. She confidently pointed to a section with a few different of longer single blunt/joint tubes so I went ahead and just looked for the strain I wanted & told her the cinnamon milk. She repeated back to me "cinnamon milk?" & I confirmed before she spent a minute or two looking through, reading the jars, grabbed one & checked me out. I got home only to open my bag & see a 1.5g infused joint of a complete different strain. Confused I called & they asked "if I could get there in 15 minutes so they can exchange it" luckily, I live close, so I went back over only to be charged the $8.47 difference with nothing offered to me as compensation for their multiple mistakes.... They are always very kind there, but to not be offered anything when I had to make a whole separate trip, tipped on the initial service that wasn't even done correctly, & charged the difference for their mistake rubbed me the wrong way.
