Slight Indulgence - Another year, the same misleading "50% off most sterling jewelry" sign in the window!

I went into the store in Oak Bluffs casually looking for jewelry and I walked out with an amazing…read moresterling silver bracelet. The man at the counter (the owner) was friendly but not overbearing, and every piece of jewelry in the cases were 50% off. Even if this were a gimmicky way of making you feel like you're getting a great deal, I still felt like it was a bargain. I fell in love with a bracelet but didn't want to commit on impulse, so I asked when they closed to see if I could come back. It was almost 6 and he told me they technically "close" at 6, but that he had some merchandising to do and would probably keep the shop open a bit late. He also gave me his cell phone number and said I could call and if I was interested in anything and he could ship it to me. One of the bracelets that I tried on was uncomfortable and he told me that he is also a silversmith and would be happy to fix it for me, free of charge, if I wanted the bracelet. I am sure he was just trying to make a sale, but the fact that he went out of his way to make sure I could get what I wanted really made an impression on me! I ended up going back to purchase the bracelet later that evening and the shop was still open. He stayed late to make sure the bracelet was fully polished before I walked out the door with it. Overall, I think Slight Indulgence is a great place to shop on the Vineyard, just from my experience buying jewelry alone. I didn't even get a chance to really look at their clothes and other accessories, but upon walking in I saw a billion things that I loved. Next time I'm in the Vineyard, I'll be back!

This store is what my dad would call a "clip joint!" It has a nice window display, and when you go…read moreinside, the owners are super-friendly, asking you all sorts of (semi-intrusive) person questions about where you're from, where you're staying, how long, what you do for a living, etc. They're masters of The Shmooze, trying to relax you into thinking they're your friends. This could be seen as a lovely quality, but when it comes down to it, their goods are horribly over-priced! And even worse? The pricing isn't exactly straight-forward. Allow me to explain: Every summer, I walk into this store to see if anything has changed. And every year I'm greeted by the same "50% Off Jewelry!" sale signs prominently littering the very long jewelry display case that runs the entire length of the store. But if you look closer, in small letters, they've written that this sale only pertains to "select items"...and then when it gets down to it, it never seems to be the item that I ask to see! The prices are really high for sterling silver jewelry, by my experience, over twice what comparable items are priced at at similar stores in other towns on the Island...so it would make sense for the 50%-off sale gimick, if the items really are marked down... But I have yet to find any item there that the owner told me was on sale. I'm sure there ARE some, but it must be a very small selection that could easily be consolidated to one part of the sprawling display case without all the excessive, misleading red-inked sale signs all over the place! I'm not going to go as far as saying it's a bait-and-switch, but it also doesn't feel on the up-and-up. I haven't bought anything here as a result. They also have an abbreviated selection of women's beach-worthy clothing and shoes...maybe people will have better luck with these items? But they are also rather pricey for what they are made of and how they are made. This is a typical tourist trap store. But, I guess, if you have a lot of disposable income and prices don't matter that much to you, you may have a different impression of this place?

Sometimes handcrafted small business products can feel a little tacky at a high price point but this store's products are beautifully made of high quality in a cute boutique. Purchased: gilded oyster jewelry dish: it's thick, food safe, and beautifully painted as the ocean snowmen earrings: charming pearls with gold accessories, they don't feel too heavy Christmas card: charming, they have so many inspired by the holidays, ocean, Martha's Vineyard itself, and mini cards Teal Octopus ornament: just so cute They are also able to ship all their product in their store. It's so convenient to send gifts to loved ones. The variety of products (soaps, jewelry, bags, towels, and so much more) makes for a fun shopping experience. Highly recommend!! The owner did not greet us and when my family member mentioned that her bracelet she purchased from him needed repair, he just took it without asking what's wrong, giving a timeframe of how long it would take to fix it etc. . Now keep in mind WE purchased from him last summer. In addition, he spoke to ALL other patrons (coming and going) except us. Literally the kids, parents yet, he did not speak to my mother and I but kept looking at us. He was extremely rude and it was not okay. When asked about his accountability, he said, "I was busy"... however you were not too busy and VERY excited to help me last year when I purchased from you. In addition there was music playing by Marvin Gaye and in his irritation (clearly with us), he turned the music saying "it's driving me crazy" and turned it to "another artist". I've been coming to Martha's Vineyard for years actually decades and this level of treatment is unacceptable. I'm disappointed in the beyond lack of customer service he gave MY mother. I will never shop in there again nor will I make a recommendation to anyone to shop there.

Collectible Things and Stuff [Martha's Vineyard MA]…read more The shops along this path are small and cute and the merchandise are unique and interesting. Stony Creek is one of the local businesses in the small town of Aquinnah. Family owned and operated gift shop. I perused through the various items that included wall decors for indoor or outside, pottery, collectible seashells, handmade American-Indian jewelry and also family-made Wampum jewelry. I originally thought "wampum" is an Indian tribe... I was corrected and the true meaning is that of beads of polished shells strung in strands, belts, or sashes and used by North American Indians as money, ceremonial pledges, and ornaments. They sold these as earrings and pendant forms with various stones and shells. I purchased a few stone animals... I'm not sure what kind of stone they are made of but they are between 1-1/2" to 2" in height and width. They are cute and I bought enough for each of my co-workers except I forgot to give it to them when I got back from vacay... in fact, I completely forgot about this purchase. I'm not sure now if I still want to give it to them and keep for myself LoL! The little turtles were popular... I picked up what's left. My little animals were carefully packed with TLC and wrapped and placed in a small heavy-duty plastic bag. So cute! Review #3029

The jewelry selection here isn't wildly exciting to me, but the staff is polite and very helpful,…read morethe space is actually WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE (rare for this island), and the prices are reasonable. There aren't a lot of fine jewelry stores on Martha's Vineyard in general, and certainly not very many that are open year-round at all, so automatically the very existence of this store holds value. I wear a large ring size, so the store offered to have one custom-made for my finger, rather than sizing an existing one that they had at the store, which might've destroyed the integrity of the setting...I'm used to this! It was ready when they said it would be ready (about 6 weeks, which is typical most places in the US, in my experience), and I am very happy with the ring! I wish they had more estate and vintage pieces, but I think they cater to more mainstream tastes than my own. If you're looking for an island pendant or charm in gold or silver, a wedding band or solitaire engagement ring, or other small-scale fine jewelry, this is probably a good place to stop by if you're in Vineyard Haven!
