Mogu Tree Noodle House - Toppings!!!

I got a bowl of laksa noodle soup for Php 145, with two toppings included. You can Php 35 for an additional topping. You have around thirty toppings to choose from, and anything goes. I chose smoked chicken and, for some reason, a mozzarella ball for my topping. The noodles itself are good: flavorful and just the right amount of softness. It doesn't rely on the broth as it already has a flavor of its own, which for me is a good thing. Now, I'm not sure what I had in mind when I chose the mozzarella ball to go with my laksa noodle soup and i was dreading the outcome. It wasn't so bad after all, but I think it'd taste better with the plain noodle soup. I brought my friends along on my second visit and experimented with plain noodle soup, mozzarella ball (I really don't know what's with me and cheese), a fried cheeseball and smoked chicken. They all turned out great! Better than expected, actually.

The moment I entered the place, I immediately saw the buffet table for the different types of noodles and toppings. There were five noodles to choose from: ramen, spinach noodles, Hong Kong egg noodles, thick flour noodles, and flat flour noodles. I chose the last one. From the toppings, I picked three types of mushrooms: enoki, pearl and chicken mushroom. Done picking the ingredients, I gave my plastic tray to the lady at the counter. Finally, I chose my soup: laksa (with coconut). My order - laksa noodle soup with three toppings - amounted to PhP175, she said. Then, I sat on my table and waited for them to cook my bowl of laksa. The waiting time for the food was short and my order arrived still slightly boiling. The serving size was big enough for its price. I liked how the mushrooms were not overly cooked and carried a sweet earthy taste. The noodles were not too soft and soggy and the laksa soup was a mix of sweet (because of the coconut milk) and spicy (because of the chili). Altogether, the ingredients resulted into a beautiful medley in my mouth. I finished the meal and went home satisfied. Surely, I would go back to Mogu Tree. Even now, I couldn't wait to try the other noodles and toppings!

I ordered the Kung Pao tofu and the set meal of bagoong rice with vegemeat, but they were out on the tofu dish. This was good as the bagoong rice platter was massive. I've traveled around the Philippines and haven't had many vegan dishes but for the occasional tokwat (tofu) dish. So to get a dish that was veganized was pretty amazing. Somehow they were able to make this traditional dish minus the shrimp paste. Its slightly sweet and yet savory taste had me going back for more. The green mango on top was the clincher for me. It was so good and affordable. I definitely recommend this place to any vegan, vegetarian and don't worry carnivores. There's plenty on the menu for you, too.

I am always willing to try out different Asian cuisines so I thought it would be an absolutely wonderful idea to go here to check out the different types of dishes that they have to offer. The first time I went to Sentosa, I immediately noticed that almost all of the dishes they serve have curry in them. I am not particularly fond of curry or anything spicy so I was a little bit reluctant to order. I just wanted to slowly get out of the restaurant without ordering, but my friend was too shy to move from her seat. I had no choice so I just ordered their Singaporean Roast Chicken. After sitting for about 15 minutes, my food finally came. My mouth immediately began to drool as the waiter brought our order. It looked absolutely amazing! I could already tell just by looking at it that I'd be full by the end of the meal. The roasted chicken was so soft and tender that it could literally melt in your mouth. Good thing my friend stopped me from leaving Sentosa. It would have been such a big loss if I just left without even tasting their food.

He keeps on insisting on taking me to places that serve spicy food, and I keep exerting my dominance (heh) because I do not want my mouth burning from a thousand different spices. Sometimes, though, I let him have his way, which is how we ended up eating at Sentosa. I was reluctant to order since everything on the menu seemed spicy, but I finally caved and ordered their laksa with a whole lot of rice on the side to deaden the heat. It turned out to be a moot point since you can ask the staff to lay off the spices, which made my laksa oh-so-delicious. Ah, good help is so hard to find nowadays so when you do, never let them go.

This is their second branch, their first branch is on Lilac St. in Marikina. The place is rather small. It serves Chinese food and there's a spread where you can choose your toppings for your claypot rice or soup. THE FOOD We had the Pork Asado and Garlic Sausage Claypot Rice (P170) - it's good. Reminds me of Binondo eateries. Better than I expected from a place that looked like what it looks like. I don't think they actually cook the rice in the clay pot like they do in Hong Kong, but that would be expecting too much. We also had the Spareribs Tausi (P140) - this was good but nothing too different from what you'll find in Binondo dimsum restaurants. The best dish we had, for me, was the Laksa Noodle Soup. The noodles were not soggy, the spicy, creamy and sour flavors were balanced - the whole effect was delicious. This is the dish I would recommend someone try. IMPRESSIONS I wasn't particularly impressed by the looks of the place. It looks like a neighborhood eatery. As for the food & drinks, I was surprised that they had imported sodas/drinks! The food was actually pretty decent and delicious, more than acceptable for its price range, and reminds me of Binondo eateries. This is not a high-end place, but it's clean. I don't know if there are any other Chinese restaurants in Antipolo since I'm not from there, but if you just have a craving for claypot rice, laksa, or Chinese sodas and beer, you could try Mogu Tree. The menu is a bit limited to claypot rice and laksa and a few dimsum dishes, but it's authentic in the sense that it feels / tastes like a Binondo eatery.
