I would rate my first visit as a 4 star, but upon my second visit, it's down to 2 stars. Unfortunately, it was a terrible experience service-wise. The first time we came for happy hour, we found the service to be pretty good and the value was great as well. I got the pho bo for $14.25 which was a good portion, although the taste was not super authentic. The $5 nada colada was delicious too. The food is average, maybe 3 stars. The second time, we sat down around 10 pm. The waitress came by and seemed to rush us to order, but we told her we needed a few more minutes. By the time we ordered, it was after 10 pm for sure, I remember looking at the time and it was 10:05 pm. However, when she brought us the bill at the end of our meal, our entire bill was listed with regular prices, not happy hour. When we politely brought this to her attention, she argued that we ordered before 10 pm, but of course that was not the case. The bill even had the timestamp of 10:09 pm, which we pointed out and the waitress said that was when she "printed" the bill. That makes no sense? Anyway, upon our insistence of ordering after 10 pm, she went back and re-did our bill without an apology. After paying the bill, we sat around chatting for some time. Then, when we left, a second waitress chased half our group outside the restaurant and accused us of not paying our bill. My friends went back in with her, where she checked her till and of course could see proof of payment. Again, there was no apology for the mix up or accusation. These 2 incidents really ended our night on a sour note. I understand that mix ups can happen, but at the bare minimum, an apology is warranted. The atmosphere is casual and loud, good for larger groups. However, after my last experience there, I would hesitate to recommend any of my friends to go. It is a shame as they are one of the only places open that late on a weekday and in the area for a lot of us. The only reason they aren't at 1 star is because the food is okay for the happy hour price. Also, for some reason, the second time I got their nada colada, it didn't taste as good, so I don't think they are consistent. But that is really minor in comparison to the other issues we experienced. read more

Sing Sing is a cute lofty space with warm lighting and an outdoor patio, perfect for summer gatherings with friends located on Main St. I think the ambiance of this place alone would warrant my return but I would not come here expecting my palate to be enlightened. I tried a few vegan dishes with my best friend. The chilli tofu was a standard staple (nothing too special) but the vegetarian dumplings were a delightful surprise. I liked the chewiness of the skin combined with the heaping mound of green onion/crispy garlic + onions for added flavour and texture. Funghi pizza was a delicious addition for mushroom lovers, especially coming from a non-vegan palate however, we realized the dough wasn't fully cooked and still raw when we got to the crust. My friends also ordered some cocktail drinks (no pics unfortunately) that they thoroughly enjoyed. The drink menu is very expansive and diverse with lots of choices. Finally, my sweet tooth ended with an order of the Vietnamese coffee tiramisu. It was a bit on the sweeter end but nonetheless, satisfied my cravings for dessert. The portion size was also more than adequate and I ended up sharing it with everyone at the table. Overall, service was okay but it was hard to get the server's attention and there seemed to be no designated server for our table so it was a bit confusing. We walked by this place many times and have always been drawn to the airy and open light-filled dining room. We decided today would be the day to try it out for brunch on our walk home from the farmers' market at Hillcrest. I felt like I was in an expansive covered deck of a bar near the seaside as soon as we stepped into the restaurant. Although it was a warm and sunny day, we opted to sit inside at the street-facing end of a long communal table to cool off after a long walk. One reason we picked Sing Sing for brunch was that we both felt like a cold beer. We picked our drinks right away. This is a very beautiful bar/restaurant, located along Main St. Absolutely beautifully decorated and spacious. They even open up the wall during summer so there's lots of sunshine. The service is alright. I've been here a few times and I've had really great servers and other times where service was average. The food here is hit or miss. I really enjoyed their bowls and I think it was filling for price. The appetizers were alright. I would recommend the tuna puffed rice. However, I do not recommend their pho. It's just not the classic pho flavours I'd expect to get. The broth is not fragrant. Drinks are alright. Cocktails are a bit expensive but they are somewhat unique and taste good. Went in for drinks late on a Friday night. It was pretty busy, but we were greeted and seated promptly. Server was nice and drinks came fast, but that's pretty much where the positives ended. Was not a huge fan of how loud the music was. While it is late and a Friday night, for a place that's still serving sit-down food, it was obnoxious. I'd expect this from a bar or pub, but seeing as Sing Sing is neither, it felt out of place. Basically spent my entire meal shouting. The food was fine, but for the price, I've had much better. I got the burger, which I thought was the safest choice. Friend got the pho, which he expressed was pretty bland. Nice little bar/ restaurant I've been meaning to try. Finally went yesterday. They have some free 2 hr street parking around the area. I love their variety of beer and absolutely loved their Bomber Brewing Hedgehog Hazelnut Porter. It was so delicious I asked for seconds. My friend ordered 2 of their cocktails. I'm sort of surprised how even though I put in "birthday" on the open table reso, they don't really even write Happy Birthday on the dessert or say happy birthday to the birthday girl. Maybe they missed it? Or Sing Sing simply doesn't have anything in their repertoire for birthdays? In terms of food, small menu. Loved their rosemary fries, huge portion even for HH menu. Calamari was normal/ good. And absolutely loved their shrimp tacos. In terms of the Funghi Pizza (vegan), I gave it a try due to all the other reviews here on Yelp, but it's honestly not my kind of pizza .... I can see how a vegan/ vegetarian might enjoy it though. The pho like everyone else has mentioned is sorta average/ "meh", but we still wanted to try it out for ourselves especially since most of the food we ordered was pretty heavily fried. The toffee pudding was actually not bad, could have been a little less moist and I wish they used pecans instead of pretzels. Did not enjoy their crispy tofu at all. It was firm tofu and the fried bit of it was a bit too thin and not crispy enough. Overall, a pretty decent experience. Would definitely come back for more booze and some fried food and try another of their pizzas. It'd be nice if their menu had more options of something a little less fried. (Eg. summer roll?) We had passed it lots of times at night but the lineup was too long for what we were willing to wait so decided we would check it out during the day one today and today was that day. In the early afternoon there were plenty of seats available so we got to choose where we sat and opted for one of the communal style benches since there were 4 of us. There's plenty of seating inside and on their patio but a large majority of it are larger benches which you would share with a bigger group - there are very few 2/4 person tables so I'd keep this in mind if this is something you care about! The inside was nice and bright and the back had a huge wall of beers on tap - we didn't end up getting any but they all looked great! As for service, everyone was super nice and attentive - giving us just the right amount of attention when we needed it, For food we got the fried cauliflower to start and the chicken katsu burger and the grilled avocado & crispy tofu bowl as our mains. Given that it's a gastropub, our expectations weren't high for the food but we ended up pleasantly surprised! The cauliflower was delicious, the burger had a lot of tasty chicken, and the bowl had just the right amount of fixings as well. I can't quite pinpoint why I am in love with Sing Sing, but let me try to unpack what they're doing well. First, the curb appeal is lovely. The attractive architectural style and white palette evoke a Cape Town-like or Australian-inspired coastal brewery. The small patio opens up to the spacious interior on good weather days, and the skylights and exciting use of plants and light colour tones keep the space interesting and light. I am a huge fan! I love the corner tables surrounding the tree on the front patio. If you are lucky enough to experience this peaceful section, albeit a little loud, thanks to Main Street, you will be happy. The staff are incredible - and I would go so far as to say they were the best I experienced on my recent trip. I loved tasting a few of the sours before purchasing since there are so many options. The food menu is also sublime, with the unique menu items with tuna and Mexican-inspired dishes really lovely. I loved the bowls, too. Honestly, you probably cannot go wrong with whatever you choose. Visited with some friends and tried out a nice variety of their menu items and although nothing was bad, the price was a bit higher and nothing stood out. An interesting mix of pho and other casual eats, we tried out their pho ga which had grilled chicken, plenty of green onions and a decent portion of noodles. The chicken was lacking in flavour and the soup was clear but was nothing special. The rosemary fries were the skinny kind and topped with plenty of parmesan but I felt that it was way too salty. Im not usually a huge fan of fries so I'm not a great judge but the actual fries themselves weren't too crispy or lumpy. The broccolini was my least favourite of the meal as I found it much too oily and a small portion for the price. The best of the meal was their pesto shrimp pizza but I may be biased since I love pizza. The crust was thin but not too crispy. The toppings had a good amount of shrimp and some feta cheese on top of gooey mozzarella. The drizzle of pesto added some extra flavour and gave it some colour too! The beer selection will leave you dizzy (in a good way - it's EXTREMELY expansive) and the food is good enough (been several times). But when it's busy, the service is slow, and it gets extremely loud despite having an open wall. I'd want to sit near the open air (or in the patio) during prime time or you literally can't hear anything. Yes, due to people having fun, but it felt like something is seriously wrong with the acoustics of the place. The noise wasn't an issue though when I went at off-hours. For food, I'd stick to bar basics and order things like fries, wings, etc. - I think they do those the best. The Asian food is also alright if you're craving it, sucks they got rid of the kimchi grilled cheese though Also it's extremely annoying to me that they don't list beer descriptions in the *online menu that should be easy to change* - copy them or boil them down to a few adjectives, I don't care. I've passed by this Asian fusion beer bar so many times and I have always been curious about their food! Honestly all of their food looks interesting but I was most curious about the steam buns. I wouldn't say it's as good as the ones we get from yum cha but it was still pretty decent! The bun was very soft. I really like the flavor of the cha siu but I wish theres more. The calamari and pizza were both really good as well. I didn't plan to get a drink but the presentation of Bright Lights looked so cute, so I couldn't resist. Bright Light was a slushy with absolut, cointreau, watermelon, lemon juice, cranberry and pineapple. It was absolutely delicious and refreshing. You definitely don't taste the alcohol as much (which is why I like it) and I am definitely getting it again. Their Main St location is actually really nice. Ok, so the pho is so-so. But you are not here for the pho, you are here for the vibes and the beer. The atmosphere is airy and bright and fits with the neighbourhood. Service is pleasant, but occasionally pre-occupied. Maybe don't come here if you're in a rush, but they're otherwise very nice. There is a solid beer menu that pairs well with the so-so pho and watching the denizens of Mt. Pleasant go by. The pho is definitely a three star pho. It is totally acceptable and even good at turns, but it lacks depth and character compared to the kind of broth you'd get at a place with flourescent lighting and pictures on the laminated menus. It does not taste like a labour of love that has been simmering for hours and hours, which is fine. Maybe it just needs salt. I would give this pho a grade of B. B+ after being doctored with condiments. If I had a cold, which is usually when I want pho the most, I would probably not notice its shortcomings as much. read more

Sing Sing's food menu is on the smaller side, but everything is reasonably priced (given its location) and, from what I ordered, tastes really good. The pizzas and pho bowls are a better deal than the appetizers, or snacks as they're called at Sing Sing, though. On the other hand, their drink menu is expansive. There is a large selection of beers, but notably no coffee. My table shared the pho gá sing sing and the funghi pizza. The pho broth was refreshing because it wasn't as salty or oily as it is at your standard Vietnamese restaurant. If there were 1 or 2 more pieces of chicken to balance out the ratio of noodles to other stuff, the dish would've been perfect for me. The funghi pizza was, by far, my favourite. The crust was thin and had the right amount of crisp to it, the sauce was creamy and indulgent, the toppings all complimented each other, and the lemon zest on top was like the icing on the cake; it brightened the dish and brought it to a whole other level in terms of my expectations of pizza. We've been eagerly waiting for this place to open because the offer of pizza and pho is a perfect fit to satisfy the tastes for everyone in my family. We came on Thursday night around 5:30pm so the place was only half full at the time but by 6:30 the place was near full. Not much light once night falls, and it gets really really loud. One end of the room uses regular rectangle tables, the middle portion uses communal benches and the entrance side had circular tables... so different ways to accommodate different sized groups. We tried: - Calamari - Good. Right size for a snack portion, and perfect size to feed a child. Nicely fried. - Margherita Pizza - Good. They use sesame seeds on their crust, which I think adds a nice flavour. Crust was nice and light. I would consider it a bit bigger than a personal size, but again, a good size for children to share - Pho Sing Sing - Undecided. They ran out of regular broth so they gave us vegan broth. Vegan broth was better than I expected, but I would've liked to try the regular one. Noodles and meats were good, but as expected, a little pricier than what you would pay at a typical pho restaurant. Service was OK. They tag team a lot because a 2nd server brought our food, a 3rd person checked on us, and a 4th person brought the credit card machine, so we hardly saw our original server. But all were friendly. Their drink selections are also expansive and with great options. I also love the asian fusion feel to it. The bad is that service here is very bad. As in I had to remind waiting staff a few times of mine and my company's order, and sometimes they'd come back 20 min after ordering to tell me a drink or food item was unavailable. The reality is most of us will go to a place like Sing Sing before you go somewhere else and I found myself annoyed that you really had to exercise a beyond reasonable amount of patience and expectations with regards to the waiting staff. Also, their menu could use some expansion. Don't get me wrong, it is good, but it's not one you're gonna walk away from and revisit time and time again. Lemon grass chicken pho: I expected the chicken to be grilled and marinated with lemongrass but the meat was just boiled. Beef pho: The chunks of brisket was different from regular pho and was actually tender and tasty, just a little too fatty. I was a little disappointed to see our server wearing her mask underneath her nose, as in that instance there is not much point to it. It was difficult to social distance while waiting for a table as the exit and entrance are both in the same doorway. As for the food, I have the Calimari and Margherita pizza. I had heard this place was just OK, and it seemed that caveat was true. The calimari was good but the pizza was just OK. I also tried some of the noodle salad, which was my favourite part. The Kombucha cocktail was lovely. Over all, I would recommend this restaurant if you just want some simple eats, but would give it a 3/5 for safety feel. on a whim i decided to take the wifey and check out this much talked about BEER/PHO/PIZZA place in mount pleasant. i mean, what more can you ask for? they've got the trifecta of comfort foods lol. been driving up and down main and noticed this place opened up recently and decided...its time. got there and the place was so lively. music and lights and everything merry and bright this holiday season. part of the place was being used for a company xmas party so it was a bit noisy...but no worries...we came to try the food.. ordered the ff: The beef Pho, marguerite pizza, chicken bbq with honey/lemon/ginger glazed, and ginger rolls. they dont have their own brew so i tried a local pilsner... all things considered, the beef pho was good. hd a huge chunk of brisket in the bowl as well as shaved beef. generous sprinkling of scallions and onions. but the broth is not your typical pho broth. its lighter in taste and aroma and soup is not clear. the pizza had a great crust similar to neopolitan pizza. the cheese and vegs were great no drizzle of olive oil. still good tho. the salad rolls were surprisingly good. deviating from the usual lettuce, they used bean sprouts and shrimp.'very good texture complimented by a nice dip. but without the dip, tasted bland and lacked seasoni the best dish of the night is the bbq chicken skewers! succulent and juicy pieces of chicken, perfectly grilled with an awesome marinade. definitely a must try. it is so good. great beer selections and more importantly, amazing and attentive service from the staff! cheers! happy eating! read more
