My voice was "ok," I could hold a note, but it was very limited. I chose Sophia based on all the superlative Yelp reviews she has received over the years. These have been borne out in spades by my experience working with her. I've now had over a year of weekly lessons and my voice has improved significantly. It has a wider range, more depth and fullness, and an overall better sound. Sophia is a teacher par excellence. I come away from each lesson inspired and encouraged. I am frequently awed by her extraordinary intelligence and ability to explain various concepts and techniques in concrete, easy-to-understand terms. She employs different modalities such as visualizations, catch phrases, or simple concrete directions about how to breathe, move my mouth, place my tongue, and adjust my posture to aid in my learning, which I find very effective. She is incredibly articulate, and I can tell she is able to readily adapt her explanations and approaches to the student's individual learning style and stage of learning. Indeed, she is never at a loss for words that effectively convey whatever she intends to communicate to the student. Moreover, Sophia is kind, patient, charming, and dynamic. I've felt at ease with her from the outset. It is obvious she truly cares about the student's learning and progress, and that she is passionate about teaching voice. In short, Sophia is a first-rate teacher, among the best of many I've had in my life, from elementary through graduate school. I have no doubt she would be a well-regarded teacher at the finest conservatories. Thank you Sophia!

All of a sudden, looking down at them, he was 15 once more. He was in the M1 building of his high school, singing with his choir mates, beaming at the choir teacher in unison. People who have been a part of formal singing and still actively pursue it, know that music will always be a part of their lives. It's everlasting and doesn't disappoint. "Shortly before my 16th birthday, that lucky star called choir, was due," Charles began. "Even in the darkness, even in the night, it showed me the neverending gift that circles back again: Singing." He peered onward, a slight smile on his face as he spoke. "Some years later, I discovered Ellen's fabulous Anything Goes Chorus (AGC)." "Ellen makes singing possible in her SATB-style choir, which was something I was a part of in high school, something I've been deeply fond of and always missed. It's a place of belonging....a place that provides meaning. A place where you can walk on with hope in your heart. A place of connecting."

Raz is a talented singing instructor!! The question is, can you be an A student…read more Have you ever wanted to sing your heart out loud but thought you sucked at singing, so you didn't even want to try? Well, chances are, you probably don't know how to sing, and trust me, singing can be taught, especially by Raz. Raz is a teacher for a reason and that is to TEACH you how to sing. He's been doing this for over 30 years. Think about it, why would there be so many vocal teachers, if singing can't be taught? But first, get over the fact that you're not going to be on The Voice after taking 10 vocal lessons and just believe that with practice and dedication, anything can be achieved. IF you PRACTICE 10,000+ hours of singing, maybe then, you'll get on The Voice, but for now, just love the learning process and have fun. It may seem daunting at first, i know, and when you first hear yourself sing, you're probably thinking to yourself.. oh F, why am i even trying or worse, think that the sound of a cat dying sounds better than me singing, at least that's what i thought.. So if you want to impress your friends at the next karaoke night or have a dream to sing live somewhere, book several lessons with him and don't forget to practice on your own. You didn't learn how to play the piano after four 1hr lessons... what makes you think you can sing after four hours and not practice?
