I stopped lessons a while ago due to my own scheduling conflicts, but I still hope to restart one day--I miss working with her! I started virtual singing lessons with Shari towards the end of last year. I found her here on Yelp and had started to use some of her warm up videos from her YouTube channel. I'm 42 and have sang since I was around 12, taking lessons starting at around age 10/11. My cousin was working on her masters in classical singing at the time, and I was one of her first students! But once I turned 18 I stopped taking lessons, and just continued singing and leading in church, as well as for a hip hop band. However, I never felt like I reached my full potential. Although I learned a lot about music growing up, I didn't know how much more there was to learn, and that there were so many other advanced techniques to help build my voice and make it better and stronger. I first reached out to Shari around November 2023, to take a few lessons, and get help with a pretty difficult gospel Christmas solo I had coming up. She gave me so many great tips and custom warm up plans to help with the areas I needed to strengthen. I didn't really have plans to continue lessons for very long, but did continue once a month for a little while. I was seeing the benefits of continuing on, so I kept the lessons going. A few months ago Shari suggested doing a shorter lesson every 2 weeks instead of monthly, and I'm glad I decided to do it! I've definitely noticed that my voice has started to get stronger on those higher notes, and have started to understand how I was singing incorrectly at times. She is very good at explaining things to help you understand how to correctly do the warm ups and how to sing without straining. Shari is an amazing vocal teacher! I started weekly singing lessons a few months ago with her via Zoom and have definitely heard improvement in my singing. Shari has an excellent ear and offers constructive feedback while being encouraging at the same time. Her exercises are quite useful and also she records each lesson which helps you practice later. I have always enjoyed singing as a hobby and have sang in choirs but never really sang solo. I did take a couple vocal lessons many years ago with another teacher but was discouraged by my teacher who said that I was "unable to stay in tune" and "not ready"; hence, I did not really pursue singing (other than sing in the shower) til now. Shari is awesome! I've been working with Shari for about 3-4 months and I'm impressed by my own voice! I've been singing since I was young but I never got the proper way to sing after 25 years later. She taught me how to project my voice, use my diaphragm, taught me how to breathe while singing and not use chest voice! Her exercises are simple to follow and easy, plus their recorded so you can definitely go back and practice what she taught you and hear yourself sing if you've never done that before like me. I always thought I had a terrible voice and couldn't really sing. I signed up with Shari for 4 voice lessons skeptical that anything could be done with me in 30 minutes. She took me through some exercises and taught me some things about how to actually use my voice, breathe for singing and loosen up and open up. I was a student from October 2018 to December 2019. I did in person lessons with Shari in her studio. I did the twice a month subscription. Shari offers monthly subscription for her students. Her lessons are 30 minutes. In those 30 minutes, she would warm me up by doing vocal exercises. We would then sing a song of my choice. She records her lessons so that students can hear back the lesson on their own time and practice. By practicing, you're able to improve by the next time you see her. I started the lessons without any experience. Unless you consider singing in the shower experience. I went with the intent to just learn and have fun. When I started, I had trouble following along the lessons, hearing myself, breathing... I always felt like I had something stuck in my throat when I sang. Throughout the months, Shari taught me how to support my notes by breathing. She showed me how to hear myself, and know when I messed up. I learned how to follow and hear the music. I also worked on my breathiness by doing vocal exercises. Sometimes the exercises seem a little weird, but they work. Shari is an excellent teacher. She strives to improve her students singing. When I would struggle to make a certain note, she would find different exercises to help me achieve that note. I'm currently in a hiatus, but I look forward to coming back to her. I highly recommend her. She is very enthusiastic, patient and you can be sure that you'll feel comfortable with her. After months and months of looking for a vocal coach during the Pandemic, I was so grateful to come across Shari's youtube channel! I've been in choirs growing up and know some of the basics about singing but I really wanted to hone in on my technique and skills.
