We covered drinks in honor of Boss's Day. Service was ok -- the couple running the place were attentive, though they preferred to point you to QR codes over talking directly to you (not my favorite). Unfortunately, the customer service judgment was a bit poor. When we politely asked to lower the music briefly for a short announcement, we were told it "wouldn't be fair to other customers." There were only a few others there, five perhaps and not deeply engaged in listening to music. A small act of courtesy could've gone a long way. Old Town Salinas thrives when businesses and community support each other.

Its a legit restaurant. I had the street tacos which were flavorful and I preferred the carne asada for once because its all meat no fat. Lots of chicken wing flavor options too so my girls were happy. Calisqueeze on tap topped my meal! The only down was that the restrooms were more local bar vibe restrooms but it is what it is. We were very impressed as 15 years ago the downtown was not a place to visit. Now it is. We like these "neighborhood" kind of restaurants/bars. Like the French Brassiere concept, but not as fancy, Dubber's is a place to sit, drink, chat with friends, get a bite to eat and pay a reasonable price for the occasion. Decent menu. We were driving so no booze. Old Town Burger ($15) with onion rings for $2. Wife did fried green beans (!) at $12 and we had iced tea and sodas at $3.75 each. Lots of photos and memorabilia on the walls and there were a lot of sports items, so owners must be into some teams. Very clean. Friendly wait staff, we had Karen K., and service was prompt and food accurate. An excellent stopping point if driving through the Salinas, the Garden Bowl of the Country. Only an hour south of San Fransisco.

Someone in our group took a photo behind the bar, and instead of handling the situation professionally, the bartender immediately became rude and escalated things. We were asked to leave, which is one thing--but what made the situation worse was that my card was still swiped and we were never served any drinks. After that, the bartender continued talking about us and involved another bartender, which turned into an unnecessary scene and got us kicked out. The interaction felt disrespectful, targeted, and completely unprofessional. If there was an issue with taking a picture, that could have been communicated respectfully instead of creating a hostile situation. As regulars, we expected better treatment and better customer service.

Zero bartending etiquette. She argues with patrons, she argues with her coworkers, I honestly don't really even know why she works there. The other guy has to tolerate her, and they appear to argue in front of patrons - it's not cute. He just stands there, staring at patrons as they sit waiting for drinks while the line gets longer and longer. Bartending is clearly not their jam. They have no signature cocktails, and the cocktails they do make are pretty bad. The karaoke is pretty egregious, it's like a guy who likes to sing poorly decided he wanted to set up karaoke just so he had a reason to sing sometimes and make other people listen to it. It's a dive bar, which in itself isn't bad. But it's like if you were driving through the bad part of Bakersfield and said "this place looks cool" and then stopped for a drink and then realized that it's Bakersfield but it's not. It's actually Salinas. You go here because you NEED to, because there's nothing else open, and then when this place closes you go to Jaime's. It's the second worst Salinas has to offer, and I'm saying that with optimism.
