Great Food Trailer at Sim's BBQ on Sundays-8458 Bond Rd, Elk Grove, CA 95624 This is a mobile barbecue trailer that travels to different places and events. Once a week, its in elk Grove at the above mentioned address. The trailer is parked along a street thus providing poor parking. It is primarily a takeout and has many different items available. Once you place your order a pager is given which lets you know when your order is ready. The quality is first rate and the prices are fair for what you're getting. The staff is very friendly and know the product well. They serve Ribs, Beef Brisket, Tri-Tip, Pull Pork, Chicken and, All Beef Hot or Mild Links. The sides are Potato Salad, Green Beans, Baked Beans, & Cole Slaw. Sims' Southern Punches looked really good! I had the ribs with potato salad and beans. Really excellent, although I did find the brown barbecue sauce to be a little strong for me. The quality of the ribs and taste really hit the spot! I really wanted to like this BBQ truck, but after dropping about $90, we ended up going somewhere else for burgers. The food just wasn't it. 2 stars for polite service and a pretty truck. The brisket was cut super thin and came out tough and dry, even though I specifically asked for the moist side. The ribs were hard and they gave us the back pieces you'd usually feed to the dogs. The beef links were the only thing worth mentioning -- those were actually good. The sides didn't help either. The potato salad was mushy and had no flavor. The beans were basically al dente (if that's even possible?) and also bland. The BBQ sauce is a thin, watery vinegar-based sauce with a spicy kick -- not my thing at all. Dessert didn't redeem anything. The banana pudding had zero banana in it, and the Biscoff banana pudding was only decent because the cookie butter covered up everything else. We also paid an extra $3 each for their "mystery teas." The brown one -- I'm guessing a tamarind Arnold Palmer -- was actually really good. The bright green one tasted like lime Kool-Aid. It honestly hurts to write this because I wanted to enjoy it, but it just missed the mark all around. If you know real BBQ, this ain't it. read more

Soooo I was on my way to get some grocery store lasagna and made a U-turn when I saw the beautiful Sims barbecue truck. Here are my good points. The truck is very welcoming and clean and the staff are nice and the menu was very legible, although it would be nice if the menu were bigger because I felt I needed to take a picture of it to look at it on my phone as opposed to walking very close to look at it on their truck. I like that they have buzzers to notify you when your food is ready, and it only took them about 5 to 10 minutes to have my order which I thought was great. Now onto the food. For $26 I was able to get sliced brisket with two sides a dinner roll and a can of soda or water which I think is a reasonable price these days with inflation. The baked beans were good with a little bit of sweetness, as you would expect with baked beans . The coleslaw was good and not over sweetened and I was OK with the less mayo as some like there's soupy. They served me about five slices of brisket, which I thought was pretty generous however, it was not tender enough for me. I am used to my brisket being Very easy to bite through, but this one was too tough for my liking so I chopped up the brisket into tiny pieces and stir fried with my own barbecue sauce. And about the barbecue sauce, the sauce was a little spicy, which I think customers should be warned in case they don't like spicy barbecue sauce and I think if you have a spicy sauce, you should also have a mild alternative. Lastly, which I see a trend in many barbecue establishments is that they don't serve cornbread, but serves either a Hawaiian roll or sliced bread. I think to give a good barbecue southern experience cornbread should always be on the menu in my opinion. Also, there was no mac & cheese or greens on the menu which to me are staple side dishes that should be available and concerning drinks sweet tea I think should be an option. I had a few other suggestions, but I will stop and wish these guys the best and since they've been around since 1937 sounds like they'll be just fine. read more

I went to Green Acres today and while I was inside, my son grabbed me lunch from their food truck. Upon my first glance I could tell that I wouldn't like it because the tri-tip was smothered in BBQ sauce which is typically a good indicator of the meat not being cooked very well. I was right. First bite and I had to chew and chew. All I tasted was BBQ sauce too. Their beans were okay and their potato salad tastes like Reeser's potato salad from the grocery store. The plate was $28. Not worth the mediocre food. The one bite I had of each food item was enough for me. I came home and ate Strawberries that I had just picked up. I just want Elk Grove to have decent BBQ place. Next up, I'll try Streetzlan and then Horn because the other BBQ places in EG are not great either. Id rather drive to Tankhouse in midtown. read more

I have been eating Sims BBQ for 20 years. I have traveled the world looking for better and I have not found it. I am so thrilled that they are doing pop ups in Elk Grove. I am there every week that they are open including today. Their food is the absolute best. The consistency of the great taste coupled with the wonderful service makes for a splendid experience. When you talk about perfectly smoked brisket, fall-off-the-bone tender ribs, and sides that taste like they came straight out of Grandma's kitchen! Chef's kiss! And their signature juice? Divine! Hired Sims BBQ to cater my daughter's first birthday party/our Super Bowl party. Could not have been a better day. I am the kind of person who tends to take on absolutely everything for any family events, and as a result, I'm never present/able to enjoy myself. I knew that I wanted do both of those things today, and I don't know why I never did this before. What the actual hell took me so long?! Sonia and Ron arrived hours before the beginning of our party. They setup in the front of our house, filled our garage with all of the food, utensils, etc. Chopped it up with all of our family and friends, enjoyed the game with us. Honestly, it felt like they were a part of the family, and we absolutely LOVED the food. Ok so first of all, the meatballs... my God. I ate my body weight in meatballs. We had smoked salmon, tri-tip, ribs, pork, prime rib, green salad, Mac salad, potato salad, baked beans, garlic bread, cobbler... IT WAS ALL AMAZING! I contacted Ron and the ordering process was extremely quick and simple. We ordered a Turkey as well as a smoked brisket. The pickup process on thanksgiving day was very easy as well. This year we were hosting the Thanksgiving dinner at my house for my whole family of 16 people. My family and I ordered a couple of deep fried Turkeys for Thanksgiving. It was the bomb! The meat was so tender and tasty. We never had turkey that was so flavorful. Even the next day (whatever was left) it was still tender just like it was fresh! We have also had their Seafood pasta and BBQ Brisket and Chicken on another occasion those were delicious as well. Sim's BBQ did a great job! 1st Ron provided me a sample plate of his food. The taste and moisture of the meat was perfect. That is why we booked Sims for a 4th of July birthday in Hollister. Ron and his mom arrived early to the party to cook and set up. We had 60 people at our event and everyone raved about the food. I wanted to like this place, I really did. We waited over an hour to try it, but it just wasn't good. Let me preface with saying that we didn't eat in the resteraunt but at the Bacon and Brew Festival. I have to say in their defense they didn't know how many people were going to be there but at my Boy Scout son tells me BE PREPARED!!! Pros: -Good portion sizes -The beans were good -Hubby said the Hot link sandwich was actually hot/spicy -They had chairs for customers who had already ordered -Owner (I think he was the owner was very very nice) Cons: -The wait, which wasn't ALL their fault -There were several people in the back who were messing up orders (the guy preparing the trays and calling the numbers out who was working his butt off) or just not working at all, ie one woman (not the lady with the cane but the younger one) -I get someone needs to man the money but when you are that far behind: pitch in. You have customers money at that point, the extra hands would have been handy. At five people stop taking money and fill the orders that way if you run out of food you know before you take 20 other orders for sold out chicken -Don't have your mom/grandma cutting the meat. She clearly didn't want to be there and was giving everyone dirty looks, I also thought she was going to cut her fingers off. -Cut the spicy sausage and mild sausage differently so people don't get confused. Cutting at a small angle is not differently. Cut spicy down the middle and mild into slices is. -Hamburger buns are NOT a dinner roll, if you do run out bring a pen and paper to make a sign to indicate what you are out of - Preslice meat at festivals so you serve people fast, people are at festivals to have fun not and in line waiting for food. Not all of the meat (ribs) was bad but a lot was too tough to eat, and what could be eaten tasted more like salt then BBQ.w -Offer PREPACKAGED sauce on the side -Place napkins and condiments on a table so that customers can get them their themselves. Let me again say I did not go to their resteraunt. I ate their food at the Bacon and brew festival and I think the festival was incredibly poorly planned and executed! But I think this COULD be an indication of their food quality. read more
