I love this place!! I started going in October and was instantly impressed when I had the best hair wash of my life. Before that, I didn't even know there was such thing as a good hair wash but wow, my hair got all bouncy and soft from it. I have had my highlights and hair cut done twice by Lisandra now. Never going back, this time I will hold true to my promise. The owner, Maira, did my hair and got upset because I asked her to please use heat protectant spray since a lot of heat was being applied to my hair with the blow dryer and flat ironing. She refused to do it and I felt uncomfortable with it because at the end of the day my hair is attached to my head the last I remember. Too bad I entrusted it to her. I begin to get up and told her, please don't finish my hair. I should have stuck with my gut instinct and left it at that. What happened instead is I gave in and allowed her to finish it. She was not pleasant about it at all and performed the rest of my services in angry silence with a grimace in her face (though eventually she spoke to the other stylist in Spanish). She even said snide remarks about the color in my hair not being healthy. So because I have color in my hair is that supposed to imply I don't care about the health of my hair? You have to realize that I used to come to this salon very frequently as a regular a while ago. When I stopped going, I had to cut a lot of my hair off due to damage from heat. So it's incredible that after all that, that I even came back. The service costs $35, but she found some lame reason to charge me an additional $5 because I'm pretty sure she knew she would not be receiving a tip. A pet peeve of my mine when it comes to hair salons, is when they are not upfront about the price until it's time to pay. In this situation, I felt like she forced me to pay a tip by charging extra for the service. Just horrible. read more

Shirley is amazing :) She basically did a color correction on my mess of hair, she took me from a bunch of different unwanted shades of brown and red and gave me a beautiful light brown with soft highlights which is what I was going for. She was very honest in the nicest way about my hair and where we could get me too and what we needed to do, she educated me on what not to do with my hair and what to use to repair it from all the damage. First I would like to say that this was my second time going. My first experience was amazing! I had Lisandra and she cut my hair exactly how I wanted it (just a trim, with long layers, but keep it long). I would have easily given 5 starts. Yesterday I went In for a hair cut and got someone else. She was very sweet and very nice. My only complaint is that she chopped my hair off. I have always loved my long hair and now I no longer have that. It was still a great cut but she chopped off about 4 inches. I repeated I wanted it long and she said "yes it's still long don't worry." I will post pics of my hair before/ after. I would still recommend this place, just make sure you are very specific (even though I thought I was). I left the salon and cried the whole way home because I have a fun vacation planned and wanted my long beautiful hair :( hopefully it grows fast! read more

Although the stylist, Julia, who did my hair was nice (and did a good job!), I'm giving two stars cause I feel like I was price gauged. I have gone about three times in the past to get my hair straightened. Sherly has helped me previously and she's fantastic. Wash, cut, blow dry and flat iron for $35. When I called for this appt., Sherly was not available on Monday. They offered to make an appt with the owner, for the same service. When I made the appt., I asked about price. I, too, am weary of places that don't tell you cost up front. Th young lady on the phone told me the cost was dependent on length, but that straightening started at $35. I arrived for appt, got my hair done as usual, MINUS the cut. Their credit card machine was down, so I told her I was stepping next door to get cash. She then told me it was $45. I mentioned that in the past, I'd paid $35. She proceeded to tell me that the price went up. I'm disappointed that I wasn't told the price (or its increase) at the beginning. Also, I get that some places charge more when the owner does hair (more experience, right?) but that was not the case. Although my appt was with the owner, she didn't do my hair. $45 for hair straightening? Let's get real. That's ridiculous. Can't justify going back for that. I asked about the cost because I didn't get a cut, and she said, "oh, she can cut you now when your hair is dry". Seriously? I'm no hair stylist, but smart enough to know that produces an uneven cut. Not only that, but the stylist had her purse on her shoulder, walking out. I'm sure the last thing she wanted to do was stop and cut my hair. I had been searching for a Dominican hair stylist for some time now and finally found one. I took my mother to Maira to get a color, wash, deep conditioning, cut, and blow dry. The total was $100 which was, in my opinion, a great price. The result is fantastic. My mother looks ten years younger and everyone keep talking about how great her hair looks. Yes!! Finally found a hair salon in the St Pete/Clearwater!! I struggled to find a salon and found this one on Yelp. I decided to give it a try. Now before I go on, I have to explain. I am Puerto Rican and have thick, curly hair. Unfortunately, not everybody can work with my hair. You have to know! I usually go to Dominican salons. So....It's a very small salon in a strip plaza. I walked in without an appointment on Sat AM and they were very busy so I made an appointment for later that day. I arrived for appt but had to wait about 30 mins before my hairdresser. I didn't mind cause it was Sat midday. My hairdresser was very friendly and talked to me throughout to make sure I was happy. The salon was very lively, friendly. I wanted to get a blow out and so I called and was able to make an appointment the same day. :) Walkiris washed, conditioned, and treated my hair. She then blew it out and flat ironed it and I left feeling beautiful and happy! The atmosphere was family orientated and reminded me of growing up and having my family play, talk loudly, dance, eat, all while I was getting my hair done. It made me miss home. :) The stylists were singing to the radio and dancing around and it was just a great atmosphere. Walkiris was also very fast and I appreciated that. She was careful with my hair but she also didn't waste time and I deeply appreciated that. Once she was done, she talked about how I could keep my hair looking good and she even demonstrated how I should wrap my hair at night and how I could keep it straight while I work out. :) She answered all my questions without rushing me and that made me happy. They also had a good mix of people, Latina 's and Blacks were there to get their hair done so you know they can handle a variety of hair types. I started going to Simply Hair after reading a review here about a woman taking her mom for a color, deep condition, hair cut and blow dry for $100. I was pleased with Miara and my hair the first time I went, although the color was a bit on the red side ( not my preference) until I checked out and my bill was over $200. Understanding the review was from a few years ago and being comforted that it shouldn't cost that much in the future because I would never do all the services simultaneously again I paid the bill and tip and even returned another time. The next time I sat with another stylist for a color retouch and style and it was a different rate yet again. After talking with Maira she adjusted the rate I left happy but still a red head (bronze). I referred my mom and had her drive in from Orlando. I couldn't be with her for the entire appointment but stopped in periodically to check her progress. Miara is charming and mom seemed comfortable. She came in for a Keratin treatment, color, cut and style. $400 later her hair is straighter with frizz around the hairline. She has a half inch of gray roots and the color is lighter than I have ever seen it. She asked for med brown and is some shade of dark blond and the worst part is the lighter parts of her hair have a green hue. I emailed Miara that we were both dissatisfied and asked or a refund. Miara refused. She did offer to try and fix it but unfortunately the distance won't allow for it. Overall, buyer be ware. I hate to feel as though I am being charged on a case by case bases. Review the charges before accepting the services. Be extremely vocal about your desires, bring pictures if possible. Finally don't judge a book buy its cover. This strip mall beauty shop isn't as affordable as it looks. read more

I like this salon, but it's very difficult to get an appointment, I called to make an appointment several days in a row and was either rudely told I'd get a call back, which I never did, or I was told, quite rudely again that they were closed, which seemed a bit odd since their website says the close at 7pm and I called at least an hour and a half before then. My hair always looked pretty good after a cut here and I always left at least a 15% tip for my stylist but I guess they just don't want me to come in for some reason. read more

Points: -Bad Brazilian Keratin Treatments (see why below) - Great Hair dye used (Pravana) Had an appointment on a slow Monday and Amy did my hair. The first step was coloring (with Pravana Chromasilk Permanent). After that was shampoo. The Brazilian Keratin Treatment was put into my still wet/damp hair after shampoo then into the dryer for 30 minutes with a shower cap.. I'm so disappointed by this because the treatment is supposed to go into DRY hair, that way the dry hair sucks in the treatment. Any moisture before putting in the keratin compromises the treatment. (You don't put in relaxer on wet hair, do you? No. Okay then. Same goes for hair dye.) Anyways, after that my hair was blow dried then flat ironed in sections. I was told not to wash my hair for 4 days after that. The color is gorgeous and my keratin treatment turned out okay, not stunning or perfect but "okay". My Keratin treatment only lasted for over a month, then the curls came back. I even used sulfate free shampoo. And beware, the shampoo/conditioner set they sell has sulfates in it...even though it's for Keratin treatment. How can you sell that and miss reading the ingredients? Seriously? Now onto my next section of my review. I took my friend in for the coloring and the Brazilian Keratin Treatment too (the same don't wash hair for 4 days thing). The color came out great BUT the Brazilian Keratin Treatment was a total FAIL. After 4 days is what you call "the moment of truth" to see what your texture of hair will be like after the FIRST wash ever. And oh my word, the truth was a disaster. Picture this: Curly hair but looks like 4 inches of the ends were flat ironed and everything else was left curly. That is what her hair looks like. It looks incredibly weird. I'm not impressed. Her roots and mid-section of hair are still crazy curly but only her ends are wavy... The keratin treatment was supposed to leave hair wavy/straight (should kill most of the curls). My friend's mom was so disappointed that she wanted to demand her daughter's money back. In the end, go here for coloring and a cut, but NOT for Brazilian Keratin Treatment. Nope. Go someplace else more professional that uses legit keratin products. Like an Aveda salon. Spent so much money ($165) for a hair treatment + coloring ($65) = Total $230. I'm going to expect wonders. Not a hack job! I'm so disappointed because the owner applies the keratin treatment on dry hair, but her employees do whatever they please. And she doesn't seem to care. If I was hiring people for a salon, I'd want them to do stuff my way. I'm about to give up on salons entirely and just dye my hair instead, do my own keratin treatment (cocochoco keratin treatment), and trim my own hair with fabric scissors. Prior to going here, I had never liked a salon or hairdresser enough to repeatedly go back, I would just go wherever it was convenient to go at the time I was out and about and decided I needed a cut and highlights. I am SO happy i found this salon. All three hairdresses are amazing and friendly. The atmosphere is cozy yet professional. I always feel so relaxed and pampered when I go to Simply Hair. As soon as I sit in the chair with my book, I'm offered something to drink and I sit back and enjoy the rest.
