Our daughter completed a competency test so they could see what level she was performing at. From there they reviewed a plan to not only bring her up to her grade level but advance it. It was an 8-month program and after the first month we saw significant improvement. They worked alongside her teachers. They had fun challenges and reward that made her have a love for learning. We did the initial program and stayed for a maintenance program where they included homework help. Highly recommend them. They even offer financing options.

Okay, I try not to write reviews when I am perturbed but right now I am fuming. I am experiencing…read morehealth issues and I've visited my local quest diagnostics and they have a beautiful building and on the exterior they have a public bench for customers who use any of the four businesses that are on this side. This bench happens to be right in front of Huntington learning center, so I sat there as I was experiencing back pain and waiting for my appointment. As I sat there I read their friendly signs and I considered getting information on their program as I have a daughter that just excelled in private learning. As I sat there, an employee came to the door and used their key to get in because the door had been locked for some reason and I acknowledged that person who tried to not acknowledge me and that's okay, everybody doesn't know that friendly people are still in the world. So as I sat there waiting for my name to be called my irritated back started to hurt even more and I was uncomfortable and I'm sure my face may have looked uncomfortable but that shouldn't be a reason for what happened next. After a few minutes a wonderfully awesome and polite security guard approached me and asked me to state my purpose. She wasn't rude and I explained that I was waiting for the store next door as she explained that Huntington called her on me. Now mind you there are two people working in this facility with the door locked for some reason who are less than 15 ft away from me who could have inquired or spoke with me or just about done anything but call security on me. I'll be the first to admit I don't look like a person who has spent as much money as I have on private schooling. I'm African American and I'm not the most attractive person in the world but I am a very good consumer who was minding his own business. I take offense that someone would just call security, especially in this climate of police escalation. If someone had spoke to me they would have found out the same thing that the security guard found out. They would have learned that I'm one of the nicest humans that they ever would meet. They would have probably ended the conversation by giving me literature on their program and being the person I am their kindness would have made me recommend their services to someone if not use them myself. I'm hurt. Just my feelings my back was already hurting. But I am glad no one was looking but them because it was very embarrassing. I have endured and survived this type of thing for all of my 56 years and today reminds me of the ugly. The Huntington learning center may be a great School but I'll never find out, I hope none of you ever find out either.

Academically they are great, however, they just implemented a new policy where if you don't give…read morenotice by 5 pm the day before a session, that you can't make the session, they charge you for the session. With kids, this is unreasonable to ask. My child was throwing up non stop and had fever but because I didn't know by 5 pm the night before that they were going to get sick, I was charged for the session. This is really irritating.

The program is structured but flexible, which helps with our busy schedule, and they always communicate clearly. I recently…read moretook my child there for an assessment hoping to retain services from them for assistance with reading and comprehension. I was told the assessment would be 4 hours which seemed a bit lengthy but when I arrived to pick up my child the tests were still not finished and I was told that my child was actually finishing early! I later met with Bill Newman to review the assessments. The tests did not tell me anything I didn't already know my child had struggles with and we spent an hour and a half rehashing the same concerns. My child divides their time between my home and their father's home and Bill kept saying that he needed to meet with the rest of the family. I explained that he could contact them and set up time or talk with them on the phone. I also explained that if his concern was not being on the same page, we were all wiling to follow whatever plan was put in place. Prior to this assessment we had all agreed to doing whatever would be best for our kid. I explained to Bill that it might be difficult for them to meet with him in person as they have a business and small children with another on the way. He said he would call Stepmom to discuss. Bill then said he did not want to set my child up for failure and I asked him how that would be the case. He said that if different things were happening in each home my child would fail. WHAT?!! I reiterated that we would follow the plan and then said, so you're telling me that some tutoring wouldn't help? He said no, of course not. Well, please explain, I said. Bill then stated that Huntington has a 95% success rate and his numbers could be impacted. I was flabbergasted!! Bill then said he would not go forward with creating a plan for my child until he could speak with the rest of the family. At this point, Stepmom has called Bill numerous times and he has refused to speak with her on the phone. How incredibly unprofessional and antiquated!! Needless to say we will be attempting to find other resources for my child. We feel discriminated against based upon our family situation. Apparently if you aren't married, in the same household with 2.5 children, Huntington will not work with you!! I have come to believe that their numbers for their success rate are falsely inflated due to being unwilling to help anyone who needs the help. A true statistic would be based upon results from helping anyone who could afford the service and needs the help!! I made the incorrect assumption that Huntington Learning Center is there to help children, not that the children are there to help Huntington!

My son took a practice ACT exam at school that identified his strengths and weaknesses in specific…read moretopic areas of English, Reading, Math and Science. I searched for a program that would focus on my son's weaker areas and not waste time on the stronger sections. I was turned off by other programs I looked into that tried to sell us their "package deal". Natalie Dean, the Huntington Center Director, was receptive to our concerns and helped tailor the perfect fit for our academic needs and time frame leading up to the official exam. My son met with 3 different tutors over an 8 week period. Daniel was a really good fit for my son and Natalie made effort to schedule him with us whenever possible. Although the center's policy limits direct communication with the tutor, Natalie was a wonderful liaison who always kept me updated on goals for each session and my son's progress. In the end, my son scored a 32 on his ACT! I really believe Huntington was instrumental in providing test taking tips, guidance and the tools to give my son the best chance at success. I appreciate Natalie's openness to our concerns and help to make sure her staff provided exactly what was needed.

In the 4 months since we started, I have seen great improvement in reading skills, but most importantly, an increase in her confidence and reading is less of a battle with us. She is happy to be there, loves her tutor, and most importantly, enjoys reading. More recently we have had to switch to online tutoring given the Shelter-in-place order. I was very worried that our successes would come to a halt. It took some adjusting but the tutors and center have been creative in finding ways to keep her engaged and focused during our video sessions. We have our good days and our not so good days when my daughter is less engaged, but the best is when she tells her sister about how fun Huntington is.

We went to Huntington Learning Center to have our 7-year-old son assessed because he is behind in reading. The assessment itself was thorough: two 1.5-hour sessions, followed by a one-hour in-person meeting with the parents to go over the results. They gave us a detailed presentation showing where our son was behind, which we appreciated. We asked the woman several times whether she would send us the presentation afterward, and she assured us that she would. Because of that, we didn't take detailed notes during the meeting. According to their assessment, our son, who is at the beginning of 2nd grade, has a solid understanding of the kindergarten curriculum but significant gaps in the 1st-grade curriculum. Their recommendation was 130 hours of tutoring in one-hour sessions twice a week. However, we were told we would need to commit to and pay for the entire 130-hour program upfront. They offered the option of paying in two installments, but we would still have to commit to the full program. At twice a week, that essentially means signing up with them for well over a year before even knowing whether their tutoring is a good fit for our child. We also asked whether he would consistently work with the same tutor. They said they try to provide consistency, but it is not guaranteed, and we could not meet the tutor before committing. The 130-hour recommendation also included math tutoring, even though math was not what we came to them for. We found these terms unreasonable, but we were still open to discussing a different arrangement with them. What bothered us most happened afterward. We emailed asking for the assessment results/presentation we had been promised. Instead, we received what was essentially another sales pitch. We followed up multiple times asking for the results, and they still were not provided, despite the fact that we had specifically been told in person that we would receive them. I could perhaps understand withholding a detailed assessment as part of a free consultation, but we paid $195 for this assessment. We paid for them to evaluate our child and provide us with information about where he is struggling. To then repeatedly avoid sending us the results they had promised was extremely disappointing. The assessment itself seemed thorough, and the presentation was helpful. Unfortunately, the way everything else was handled left us with a very negative impression. If you are comfortable committing upfront to a large tutoring package without first trying the tutor or knowing whether your child will consistently work with the same person, this may not bother you. But if those terms are not aligned with what you are looking for, I would recommend understanding exactly what you will - and will not - receive from the assessment before paying for it.

Hunting Learning Center has changed my daughter's life. I started taking her there in December of…read moresecond grade because she was struggling with reading. By the beginning of third grade she was at the top of her class in both reading and math and had already met the words per minute reading requirement for the end of third grade. We continued to keep her there for an additional year because she loved it so much. She enjoyed each of her tutors and was excited to go to all of her scheduled days. She was assessed at Huntington and we learned that she was a grade level or more behind on certain subjects. We knew that she needed additional support to get up to speed prior to the start of 6th grade. Mona provided a clear action plan to address my child's needs. We were provided a set number of hours that was an estimation of the time needed for my child to catch up to her grade level. We would meet up with Mona every 4-6 weeks to see the progress our daughter was making. We will see the scores our daughter achieved on different subjects. We would also discuss the focus of the upcoming weeks. The improvement was gradual in the beginning. Once my daughter got used to the process and routine, we saw dramatic improvement in her grades. Even her attitude towards learning has greatly improved! Mona mentioned that confidence on the subject matter is what really contributes to the success of a student. As my daughter gained more confidence in her work, we can clearly see that she began having a much more positive attitude about learning. We owe our daughter's success to Hunting Learning Center.
