Okay, I try not to write reviews when I am perturbed but right now I am fuming. I am experiencing health issues and I've visited my local quest diagnostics and they have a beautiful building and on the exterior they have a public bench for customers who use any of the four businesses that are on this side. This bench happens to be right in front of Huntington learning center, so I sat there as I was experiencing back pain and waiting for my appointment. As I sat there I read their friendly signs and I considered getting information on their program as I have a daughter that just excelled in private learning. As I sat there, an employee came to the door and used their key to get in because the door had been locked for some reason and I acknowledged that person who tried to not acknowledge me and that's okay, everybody doesn't know that friendly people are still in the world. So as I sat there waiting for my name to be called my irritated back started to hurt even more and I was uncomfortable and I'm sure my face may have looked uncomfortable but that shouldn't be a reason for what happened next. After a few minutes a wonderfully awesome and polite security guard approached me and asked me to state my purpose. She wasn't rude and I explained that I was waiting for the store next door as she explained that Huntington called her on me. Now mind you there are two people working in this facility with the door locked for some reason who are less than 15 ft away from me who could have inquired or spoke with me or just about done anything but call security on me. I'll be the first to admit I don't look like a person who has spent as much money as I have on private schooling. I'm African American and I'm not the most attractive person in the world but I am a very good consumer who was minding his own business. I take offense that someone would just call security, especially in this climate of police escalation. If someone had spoke to me they would have found out the same thing that the security guard found out. They would have learned that I'm one of the nicest humans that they ever would meet. They would have probably ended the conversation by giving me literature on their program and being the person I am their kindness would have made me recommend their services to someone if not use them myself. I'm hurt. Just my feelings my back was already hurting. But I am glad no one was looking but them because it was very embarrassing. I have endured and survived this type of thing for all of my 56 years and today reminds me of the ugly. The Huntington learning center may be a great School but I'll never find out, I hope none of you ever find out either. read more

Academically they are great, however, they just implemented a new policy where if you don't give notice by 5 pm the day before a session, that you can't make the session, they charge you for the session. With kids, this is unreasonable to ask. My child was throwing up non stop and had fever but because I didn't know by 5 pm the night before that they were going to get sick, I was charged for the session. Huntington has been a blessing to our daughter. She struggled in math and reading comprehension. We tried numerous programs with no success. Her pediatrician recommended Huntington Learning Center as a resource to help her. We immediately called Huntington and made an appointment with Bill, the director at Huntington. Our daughter was assessed. We met with Bill and he explained the results of the assessment to us. He also presented us with a plan that detailed how much time it would take to get our daughter caught up to her grade level. We were surprised to see her excited to go to Huntington every weekend. She worked well with her tutors and her grades reflect how much she has learned. The amount of support she has received at Huntington is remarkable. She's gained confidence and the fundamentals needed to succeed in high school. Bill and his staff are amazing. They are flexible and work with your schedule. We met with Bill to discuss the progress of our daughter monthly. He has gone above and beyond for our family. Our third-grader has been attending Huntington since last April. From the very first day, we knew how transformative their support could be from the size of the grin on our son's face when he left his session. He stood with his shoulders high and walked with a pep in his step, filled with pride. He had a newfound hope and confidence in his abilities. After thorough analysis of his skills, Huntington met him where he was at and supported him with curriculum and approaches that suited his unique needs. Their communication with us was fantastic, with regular updates and conferences that gave us a sense of collaboration as they developed plans to continue to support our son and help him progress. After 6 months of tutoring our 4th grade daughter is now reading above grade level and performing math at grade level after K-3 at an inadequate local school. Her initial assessment was reading at 2nd grade and math at 1st grade levels. We also changed schools late last year and are pleased with our choice. Her classroom teacher this year told us she hadn't seen a student make such quick progress before and praised Huntington for helping our daughter with her quick academic gains. We enrolled our twin 4th graders over 2017 summer break because we wanted them to be prepared for the upcoming school year. We went in there with an idea of exactly what we wanted, which was just to help them with math, especially since or daughter absolutely hated math and it was always a struggle to get her to do her math homework. We are here to say that it was the best decision we made to let Huntington take the lead on what our kids needed because we have witnessed the transformation take place over the past several months from my daughter hating math to now enjoying it, and taking pride in her accomplishments. In fact, she made the Math Wizard list at school - which she has wanted for the past 3 years! Plus, our son has turned into a reading machine - and the first thing he does every morning is pick up his book and read. We contribute this to Bill and the team at Huntington. read more

My son started Huntington at the end of the last school year; about to enter fourth grade he was reading at Kindergarten level. After having been told by teachers year after year, "he's so smart, he'll get it." Or "some kids just take longer than others, he's progressing so hold tight, it'll click" we knew we couldn't wait any longer to get him help. We are six months into our program and our son is now reading at a third grade level. The program at Huntington was laid out clearly for us and the staff has tweaked it as we've progressed to meet our sons specific needs and to keep him motivated. The patience and warmth of ALL of the staff here is paramount. When I call they know my name, someone is always at the front desk to greet us with a smile, they've met with my sons teachers at school and have helped to implement homework modifications. It's clear that they genuinely care about the kids here and really work hard to figure out what makes them tick. Huntington has not only helped my son to connect the dots that his teachers and us at home could not but it's also boosted his self confidence. Priceless. read more

Our journey began in the spring of 2016 when my son was in the second half of kindergarten. The curriculum moved towards phonics and CVC words. Despite the fact that I had been reading books to him since he was a baby, he just couldn't get it. Blending letter sounds to form words just didn't click with him. After a while, he started coming home sad, upset, and depressed. He would say he was "stupid" and "not smart." I would talk with my mom-friends and get advice. They all said not to worry about it, he'll get it eventually, etc etc. I would volunteer in his classroom and see firsthand how much the other students were ahead of him. I met with his teacher multiple times to go over his progress. I helped him at home as much as I could, but I started to realize that he needed a 3rd party - who wasn't his parents - helping him. I understood that my child was only 6 years old, and the thought of getting a tutor for a 6 year old seemed excessive and an overreaction. But to me, as his mom, I couldn't sit by and keep doing the same things that just weren't working for him, as he's just getting more and more upset and sad. I wanted to help him now so that it didn't turn into a larger problem. Also, I wanted to do it while he was young and didn't feel self-conscious about going to a tutor. (I just told him all kids do this when they need extra help!) I started researching tutors & learning centers. I knew I wanted someone more qualified than a college student. One day I received a Living Social email highlighting the Huntington Learning Center for an assessment and 4 hours of tutoring. I had Huntington on my radar already from my research. I bought the deal and called the Fair Oaks Blvd location to set up the assessment. The Director, Danielle, scheduled us a few days later. The assessment was 4 hours long, but because my son was 6, they recommended splitting it up into two sessions so he doesn't feel overwhelmed. The assessment is done with the child and one teacher. I waited in the lobby and read a book. After each session, he walked out happy and said it was fun. A week later my husband and I met with Huntington to go over his assessment results. He scored below his grade level. They recommended a program for him that would get him up to grade level - 99 hours of one-on-one tutoring. They explained the program to me and what he'd be working on. The cost of the program was a bit pricey, but they offer financing for the tuition. I chose to do the 12-month financing at 0%, but they also offered 2 and 3 year options with a small interest rate. Basically, they make it so you can afford the services without breaking your budget. My son started the program right away - after school three days a week (3:30-5:00). Once summer started, Huntington offers summer hours, so we were able to come first thing in the morning instead. There were many times I had to change the schedule around, and they were always able to accommodate me. I immediately noticed a change in my son. He finally started to understand phonics and blending! Huntington tracks his progress and often gives "Advancement Awards" when the students reach a goal. My son was always so proud of himself when he came out of there and would tell me "Look Mom, I advanced!" I would just drop him off, then I would go run errands while he was working. My son loved that he got to work with different teachers all the time. All the teachers that he worked with were so friendly and amazing. The full-time staff - Danielle, Liz, and Molly - started to feel like old friends. The parents have a monthly conference with Danielle where she goes over everything he's been working on, if he's where he should be on the projected timeline for his program, and if he should get "bumped" (bumped ahead in the program if he's doing well and could use more difficult work). In the end, after our 99 hours, my son completed his program, reached his goals, and is finally where he should be academically with the rest of his class. He is happier and coming home with 100%'s on his spelling and reading tests. I am so grateful for Huntington Learning Center and for Danielle, Liz, and Molly. If you have a child who is struggling in school or a particular subject, Huntington can have a real, positive impact on your child's grades and overall understanding of the curriculum. read more

Molly and liz, Bill make an excellent team they all strive to see that your child is learning and gaining the confidence they need too succeed. The team of tutors they have are all helpful,nice,respectful. Bill has helped us with school visits and helping our daughter get the learning she needs on her level. I recommend if your child is struggling in anyway and feel they could use just an extra push, Huntington is definitely worth a shot. I promise you the help they can give is absolutely priceless! Our daughter was behind on her reading in 2nd grade. We'd tried private tutors and she didn't seem to improve. As soon as we started at Huntington we saw an immediate change in her confidence and skill level. She developed a great relationship with her primary tutor and the rest of the administrative staff. It's not easy convincing a 15 year old boy to go into a learning center 3 times a week, but HLC has made it a great experience! He always leaves with a smile on his face and a good attitude! We started our daughter in August when she began 3rd grade at the location on Fair Oaks. She was low level in both reading and math. We thought math was her problem but it turns out the reading was and by working on that it helped with her math too. We struggled every day at home on homework.She did not like us helping her and she was frustrated. We knew we needed outside help. She has been at Huntington now for 3 months and in that time she has become much more confident and her homework each night from school isn't a struggle like it was last year. In fact, she is finishing most of it now in class. We have definitely seen much improvement and are happy we finally found what works for her. She goes 4 hours a week and loves going and is bummed when she doesn't. We are beyond relieved that we finally found a program that works for her (and us!) I recently had my middle schooler complete a program with Huntington in Sacramento and we have been very happy and satisfied with his growth and progress. He always worked with a credentialed teacher who was knowledgeable and encouraging, and my son's self- esteem skyrocketed with the skills he mastered. I can say he initially was not thrilled about attending, but after a few sessions was looking forward to going and learning. The staff, including the directors, were nothing less than warm, friendly and professional, and were always able to accommodate our changing needs and schedules. A complete scam! DO NOT waste your money. We went to Huntington Learning because our 13 year old was having academic difficulties and needed support on writing, reading comprehension and study skills. We were very clear about this from the beginning. They told us that with 176 hours of tutorial support she would be on track. We could not afford that, but they said we could do 125. We spent almost $6,000 to prepay for 125 hours. My daughter went to supposed tutoring classes, but it was not more than just a proctor and worksheets. I complained early on that we were being charged $41 an hour for her to take tests, and they said this was part of the curriculum. Also, my daughter was very bored in the beginning and they said I needed to be patient and that they purposefully make it very easy so the student has success. She would often get done early and they would have her wait or do extra math. I expressed she didn't need help in math, she needed writing and reading comp, plus study skills. They said it was important to break up the lesson so student didn't get bored. After the first 50 hours she showed no growth on the tests, so I questioned it. The then director said that my daughter just didn't try and that they would address it with her. She continued to go 1 - 3x a week. We told them that she had basketball and that she wouldn't always be able to go 3x a week. After 100 hours and still no growth, they then proceeded to blame us for not being consistent and canceling appointments, even though they told us to set 3x a week and cancel the ones we couldn't make. I feel like they were not honest with us about their methods, the outdated curriculum (I specifically asked if it was aligned to the new standards), and their outdated methods. Then when we questioned multiple times why she wasn't working on writing or study skills they just kept telling us this the foundational stuff was needed and to be patient. They didn't care, because all they cared about was they got their money. They prey on parents who are trying to do the right the thing. It is a total scam. Now my daughter will be entering high school and she is still academically behind. We do not have the funds to find other supports, and we are heart broken and confused at what to do next. She would have gotten more out of an online tutoring program for under $100. read more
