When considering a test prep course my first thoughts were to have an in person course, or just a regular class like environment. My second thought was to have a long course so I could study each week, breaking down the workload. I also needed something that didn't cost an outrageous amount. I did my research and settled on Xceptional Prep for a GRE course and completed the course in September. My best review is that it succeeded on all fronts in helping me improve my study skills and scores on the verbal and quantitative sections of the test. I liked the structure of the course focusing on math first, then verbal then the stupid writing. That section is a waste of my time and its really sad that its at the beginning of the exam. The course provided the structure, review, and strategy that I needed to do better. It probably wasn't everything but it was what I needed. The instructor also made the class and she was smart and was studying for her own PhD. They did a good job finding her to teach because she motivated us to study each week and kept us thinking of the goal -- a better score. There were not many negatives about the course. I think the main issue would just be more time to study, in the case of the quantitative section you do wish there were more hours to go over more problems and address the finer points of some of the math review concepts. I understand though that there were only so many hours in the class. I would recommend the course, highly. If you are reading this dedicate yourself to studying for the test and your efforts will pay off. Follow their plan and keep up with the homework each week. read more

I am a returning student, that means in non politically correct speak, that I'm older and not right out of college. I felt I needed a GRE class because I hadn't done the math in so long, like I forgot it. Its not like I didn't have math and I was pretty good at it at one point, but you don't use it you lose it. I found this course online and took a shot at it, but primarily because they offered a considerable portion of the class to help with math. We went over a math and stats review in class, also did some data analysis questions. It was a review of concepts and then going over problems to see how they would be solved in the most efficient matter. I wish they had a little bit of a longer course because I could have used more review on the math concepts, actually there isn't many stats concepts to be memorized. The instructor was pretty standard and did his job, I think he did enjoy teaching but it was just a regular class. I did learn much from him and the class. I did take the official exam and my results were what I needed (I believe) for the programs I am applying to. So I would say it was worth it from that perspective, especially how my quantitative score wasn't that bad. I would consider the course if you have deficiencies that you need to address and if you have been out of school for a while so it kicks you back to studying and school habits. read more

I had the GRE class with them and my score went up. I guess what I am saying is that my score improved from where I started based on a practice test score. I had bought some books at a local bookstore to help me but the real class was what helped me improve. My instructor was knowledgable, cute, and friendly; she was really bright. She made class less a pain than what you could think. We followed the class structure laid out by the course and the section by section approach broke down the test into understandable parts, without totally overloading you. I had a good time coming to the class each week if you could imagine that. My improvement was also based on my own efforts so I put in many hours after class and through the week on the problems and studying the content, I was about as serious as you could be, the score was very important. My score was much better than when I took a practice test before I attended the course. I did better on math compared to verbal, but I'm stronger in math. I did okay on the AWA but I didn't really care anyways as no grad program I am applying to cared about the score, what a waste of a section. I would recommend taking the class and if you are dedicated I think it would be a good improvement of your score. read more

When in doubt take a real class to study. I took the GRE course from them and it was a great investment. Its a 6 week course where you meet for 3 hours on a Sunday and then you have, probably 8 hours of problems and studying to do each week after class. I didn't try any other option, but did want something comprehensive although I skimmed a few books and it just seemed like a mess. Too much information and too many pages to study. That is what was great about the class; you get the information in a very concise, digestible format, something you can work with, something that didn't overload me. The specifics include a good instructor who seemed knowledgeable. You get materials included with the course cost, so there is a good foundation to study with outside of the class, but not too much where its overwhelming. Class was at a conference room at a hotel. It sounded strange at first but really was quite fine, didn't have a problem with parking and the place was nice. The cost is higher than a book or books, but way lower than other options I had seen. One of the best classes I have taken. First thing that I noticed was how smart and cool the instructor was. He had taught the class I guess many times and knew his stuff but he was also so bright! We had a good group of people in my class and most of us were really working hard, doing all the homework, etc. The format of the course, over 6 weeks, is what I found the most beneficial after the instructor. I like how they worked on a different section or different type of question within the section week by week. So it broke it down so the test wasn't so intimidating. I also liked the Sunday afternoon times, it was really convenient. I would recommend the class highly and I would recommend about 8 - 10 hours of studying per week. You need to practice what they teach you at home so things come naturally when you take the test. I liked the in person format instead of doing something online. I liked the 6 week format instead of cramming it into a shorter time frame. I was very impressed! read more

I didn't think it was possible but I was able to improve my GRE score through a test prep course. I had bought many books online and at BN in town and thought that would be enough, but my score didn't improve much so I decided to take this class. So with all of the countless hours I put into the course, my books, and studying, I did improve way beyond just the books alone. I think it was because of my great instructor, but also because of the course format and going week by week working on a section or question type(s) of the test. Had a GRE class with this company. It was really good and the instructor was just great. Finally got some help for the GRE. I was languishing studying on my own and with friends. Dropped the money on the course to improve my score. Felt I needed more help on math than verbal and they started with math so that worked out quite well. They did provide us strategy for all sections of the test and the course cost includes the study materials so I didn't have to fork out any additional funds. I had the GRE course recently and did very well after the class. I wasn't scoring where I needed to be for my grad programs. In my case I had to get to a certain score to get admitted. I got to the score needed and surpassed it. I'm thinking of jumping grad programs now to something better. They teach you strategy and content. The class helps. My instructor was friendly and the cost was really reasonable. The book was included. The instructor would answer my questions and the class provided lots of useful insight. I completed the 6 week GRE course with Xceptional Prep and it helped me improve my scores. I spent each week doing the homework and reviewing the math and writing. I practiced on a lot of problems, I took a few tests, and my score was better than before. I had taken a mock GRE prior to the class with a different company and am using that as my score improvement guide. I think that a majority of the improvement is because of the course, but I also must say I put a lot of time into the process. I am not a very good standardized test taker at all and needed to take the GRE for grad school. I needed to do really well to stand out amongst other people and this course helped me to do this! I am so grateful to have found this class!! The tutor I had was super helpful and would stop and go over problems until I understood how to do them. You get the ETS book which is exactly what the test looks like so it prepares you really well! Great! What can I say? First it started with an awesome instructor who knew his stuff and actually cared about us students. Then came the format of the course, learning section by section, week by week. Six weeks is a good format, it keeps it compact but gives enough time to learn all the material and strategy. I found this to be a helpful SAT class for my nephew. We pooled our money together to get him a class because he is a straight A student. He liked the course and the format, being "in person" or like a regular course. I thought the the cost was high but when you compare it to the other options we had it was reasonable. My experience with this prep course was positive. The instructor was engaging and did his best to help whenever possible. The practice tests and individual sections we used to prepare for the real SAT were helpful for simulating what the actual test would be like.
