I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

Popped in to this slightly-out-of-town restaurant to get my monthly Indian hit hoping to finally…read morefind a change-out-of-twenty pounds-including-drinks place in TW. Well..........here it is!!! Beyond removing the flock wallpaper, The Spice is still very much the 70s/80s generic Indian I remember as a boy. All the old faves were on a menu alongside a grid of various meats and sauces which allowed you to get what you wanted in an uncomplicated fashion. It felt like a local or village restaurant in that they were running a healthy take away trade alongside a client base of the more regular TW people. Pleasant service, tasty and unstodgy. Nothing fancy but does the job............. Special mention must be given to TWs newest Qyper 'legrandflaneur' who was due to attend: True to his name, he didn't get up in time to make it!!!!!!! Truly an idle idol !!!!

I don't often give five star reviews so why is this restaurant different?…read moreIt's not the slightly nostalgic decor that takes you back to your first memories of eating a curry, it isn't the traditional smart dress and polite friendly manner of the staff even though their knowledge of the menu and courteous manners make them much more personal than any old Indian restaurant. For me, it's the attentiveness and quality of the food, their ability to make a curry however you want it, the fact nothing is too much trouble for them and the specials they come up with occasionally surprise the most experienced curry eater. This little out of the way friendly eatery has a special place in my heart and I will be coming here until I'm old and grey. Try the shatkora for an interesting change or the lamb naga if you like heat. Don't be bashful about asking questions, these guys love to help, if you don't see your favourite on the menu, ask them. Well done the spice team, keep up The good work
