Absolutely terrible customer service. I have been trying to speak to the property manager (Carl Joliffe) of my condominium building for over four months now and have been utterly unable to reach him. I have sent him numerous emails, phoned and left voicemails, called the company office directly and spoke with his supervisor (Jasmine) and still no response. Apparently this property manager is the only employee of this company that I can speak to about my issue, but I'm not entirely sure he even actually exists. My landlords have also been steadfastly ignored. All I wanted was to speak to him about the completely unreasonable $300 fine he's trying to slap me with because I disposed of dog waste in apparently the wrong garbage can while my dad was in the hospital. read more

This individual suggests that all of the 1 star reviews were written by those not understanding their condo bylaws! Very poor justification for their complete inadequacies. Between Simco and our Board, I have had more than enough and sold my condo! My experience with Simco is that they are completely unprofessional, unresponsive, and play favorites following the lead of the Board. None of this has anything to do with mis-understanding bylaws. They aren't good at responding to tenants/owners. They like to say they are looking at it, and then ignoring it. Generally you need to contact them again in a month or so to start all over again. Really like to pass the buck and not take on the responsibilities of items they should. read more

They got in touch with me by email saying I was in arrears i subsequently called them 3 times and did not get a call back The arrears notices kept coming I then sent a VOID cheque. Is there a zero star ?? This company doesn't deserve a star. Simco has been our management company for about 18 month. Our experience is that they are the worst property management company out there. We experienced a total lack of communication, no follow up regarding any inquiries, unfair decision making, ignorance during any/all correspondence. They are impossible to deal with and any suggestions are quickly dismissed. There are emails sent out that threaten to charge residents if items are not dealt with. We were stung with a hefty assessment that was based on a quote, by an engineering firm ???? We pay our fees and assessments on time, and we get treated like this! Trying to register as a new tenant in a building, have tried to get in touch four times. Called and left a message, called and spoke with the person when they never phoned back (they told me to email them which I did), and emailed them again when they never responded. I have lived here for almost a year. And l hate it . can't get anything done. The owner before me put in for new windows a few times and my agent said they were looking in to it and should have new windows by the time l move in. Ya right. I moved in and it was so cold in the master bedroom. All winter and l put window sealer l try everything and for two months my gas was 360 dollar just trying to stay warm. My son and l called and call. so they send a guy who said the window were 20 years old and should be replaced. But when they called ,mary Ann said the window were fine . Then my son found the paper from the inspection l had check the house. Send them to Maryann and to more emails and still nothing. If and when l find an other house l will be out of here. don't waste your money. I was talking to a guy who hooked some lights up for me we got talking. he lived here a few years ago and he said it hasn't changed. They don't like to let go of that money. I have talk to a few people that moved in here before me and they are not happy either. moving after their 2 years is up. Bank say they have to wait that long. Oh and you have to ask if you want to do thing outside the house. And all the windows and doors have to be the same. l have to put in a new furnace And new washer and dryer washer was full of mold , and now a new frig. This place l call the money pit. read more

Lousy company. We have had to deal with this company for the last better part of the decade. The water mains have burst due to age and previous management and owners doing nothing to maintain them. Though we did agree to pay for special assessment fee, the management's lawyers told us there was no other way, but if we waited for the owners we could have continued having these problems for years to neglect their responsibilities. Whenever I have called management, they tend to not care that it is better to call or email and keep the conversation brief because I am unable to speak long over the phone due to my job demanding I keep conversations brief. Every time I call, unless I leave messages declaring my name and unit number with my stating what community I live in, I generally don't get callbacks. The manager I have talked to tends to leave messages back that I should not be so lazy to call after hours. He does not respect my time I'm available. Over the last several years, the roofs are old. We agreed to pay a special assessment to get them repaired. The roofing company they hired were very rough and managed to reportedly damage every unit in my immediate area, the fan in my bathroom was destroyed by them. Yes they fixed it, but I told both the contractor and the management they needed to find new contractors because I felt they were careless about handling my property. Both refused to listen and the contractors returned regardless until the job was completed. I also currently have cable lines that have been knocked off the roof for months. Many tenants have complained but so far in months the management has done apparently nothing. Every time a snowstorm hits, this company will do little to nothing about it, yet our fees have doubled since I moved on to the property over a decade ago due to all their special assessment fees. The last one I got up and the lot was covered in snow. The company knew the evening before this was happening and did nothing about it. Most of the lot getting cleaned was from myself and other residents spending the time cleaning it up ourselves. For 3 days after I still literally had to dig to get in or out of my parking spot. I have called before and this is a typical response that that company demands that I learn my place and wait my turn. It's now 3 weeks and I still find my parking spot is surrounded by ice and snow. More was done after the residents who pay for the work done have done it themselves. I left an admittedly angry complaint. No way did I say anything aside from my disgust that this company has repeatedly taken their time to do anything, and a reminder that unless improvement to the service does not continue, we collectively can remove this management company as we have with others. I received an email from a receptionist claiming to work for a law firm demanding I refrain from what she called "threatening" language. Her name is also mentioned on other Simco review pages as being a customer happy with Simco's services. So what is she? A legal secretary? A customer? At this point I will not bother complaining to them any longer but contact the board about finding a new management company that makes people who pay them to do their job a higher priority. Worst Experience with a Management Company Ever I am a home owner in a complex recently taken over by Simco. Though the receptionist at the location I contacted is very nice our property manager is the most condescending "No" man I have ever dealt with. He completely lacks any kind of human compassion and seems only able to regurgitate strata policy without any ability or desire to help you reach a solution. I have spoken with several other tenants/owners who have had a very similar experience and are very unimpressed with the managements style and attitude. The worst experience ever!!! Zero contact between Simco and any of the owners. They announce AGM meetings then change the day last minute and dont tell anyone. We showed up to AGM's and no one was there more than just a handful of times. We are constantly trying to get a hold of the people managig our complex but no one will reply. We have railings that have rusted to the point where they arent even attatched to the ground anymore and cant get anyone to respond to us about fixing that. We got a notice saying we will have a special assessment of 7 millions dollars but they never told us what it was for. We haven't seen any reports from engineers or meeting minutes. Oh and if we want to see the minutes from the AGM's we keep missing we have to pay $20 just to view them. We had a small special assesment 5 years ago and only now are there people in the complex fixing the issue. These guys keep ducking a diving through the bylaws and agreements to do as little as possible and still collect our money. Do yourselves a huge huge favor and dont hire these guys. I am not sure why our condo board decided to switch to SIMCO management. After a year and a half, with 250+ units, the incompetence in SIMCO is affecting not just the common areas of the complex, but the way of life for residents and even some board members regret bringing SIMCO on as now the board has to do actual work that SIMCO should be doing. We have gone through four changes in property managers; all of them more inexperienced, un-professional and un-skilled at the tasks they are required to complete. SIMCO loves to issue invoices to residents, where no service is provided or even if you call the emergency line to report an emergency situation. The main rule is to keep quiet and live with their incompetence or you will have a pile of invoices to deal with. When you question the property manager and ask about what or how they decided to send the invoice, there is no answer, it has been two months. Their manager Vicky is equally incompetent and tries to belittle you. Are the owners or business managers at SIMCO even looking at the performance of their staff or are they equally corrupt. If you are a condo board, please stay away from this company! I was forced to give a one star, they dont even deserve a half star. read more

Non-existent customer service when dealing with property managers and management - but front desk and after-hours emergency line receptionists are nice and the only justification for the one star. There have been multiple property managers for my residence over the past few years and the only competent one we had left unexpectedly. Otherwise, they have been unexperienced, awful to deal with and consistently on the defensive. Its disappointing to see the business arguing with people who leave negative reviews for them. Completely unprofessional i dont think a single person at SIMCO knows what they are doing..... I call and call and call leave msgs and after msg after msg.... for a full 5day business week and never get a return phone call nothing!!. EVERYTIME I need to speak to someone I just go there personally because I'm tired of waiting a week for a question, concern, problem or emergency issue that needs fixing, solved or answered. I would not be surprised if this place goes out of business for the lack of clients willing to have them manage peoples companies. Our 250+ unit complex has been under Simco' s care for almost two years now. Making the switch from a neglectful and inexperienced property management company (Foundation Property Management) to a full service management company was the best move for our corporation and our collective investment. In the first few months of the switch, Luke from Simco has been able to collect thousands of dollars in arrears, successfully collect thousands of dollars in insurance charge backs to owners and save tens of thousands of dollars in securing the best insurance rates for our corporation. Luke is very responsive to the board of directors and issues around the property. He is on top of all our contractors to ensure they are doing the jobs we are paying for and is great an getting the best rates possible. Our property hasn't looked better. All this has freed up resources to ensure we did not have any condo fee increases foreseeable along with the ability to install a complex wide FOB and camera system to help tackle the illegal garbage dumping and crime on our complex. As a previous reviewer has pointed out, the negative comments seem to be coming from those owners who have trouble understanding the bylaws and their legal obligation to abide as well as the condo board's legal obligation to uphold. For example, to give a 1 star review because you can't find parking? The parking is restricted by the Condo Act and Bylaws and has nothing to do with Simco. Having all complaints and suggestions submitted in email/writing is also an Alberta Condo Act regulation. These people should be grateful of having a management company that is fully aware of the Condo Act and bylaws as it is the only thing that protects you as an owner. It's amazing people make the largest investment in their lives without understanding their legal obligations or simple condo bylaw rules. They are there to protect your investment. Without, you would see a deterioration of your investment, then you would be complaining about that! Luke from Simco is great property manager. It was the worst experience I ever had with any services. The are so disorganized and at the end, do not want to return back your maintenance deposit. I had several manager throughout the year I was abroad and they lost document, the last manager, Jeff Olafson even said that the sink was clogged since when I left, a year ago, all because when he did the walk through with the tenant he didn't notice the problem, same with the bath tub, and the broken beds... oh also the house was a mess and he guaranteed he even helped the tenant to clean the house... what a mess. Toke me almost a month and several phone calls to get my money back and all the problem fixed. Please don't never use them, its guarantee a huge headache. read more

I wasn't aware that a condo management company could make your life miserable until SIMCO management took over at my Condo building. Since then they have cost me a lot of money and headache. They hired a locksmith to get into my unit and broke the lock then told me it was my responsibility to fix it. There was a special assessment on the condo and they sent all correspondences to another address, not once communicating at the site address, phone number, or email address. Then hired a lawyer and charged us for all fees and interest on top of the special assessment. Don't bother asking them anything ever as they will not respond to you. Unless they can take money from you they aren't interested in your concerns. read more

At first the staff at Simco sounded wonderful. Our landlord owned the unit and Simco owned the building. The landlord came off like a snake when we found COCKROACHES in our apartment after living there for a month. Staff from Simco showed up immediatly after I called to alert them of the problem, helped our landlord arrange for pest control to come in (and I even noticed the light that had been out in the elavator since we moved in was fixed immediatly following that vistit) I thought "great! all of this will be taken care of". We were informed this was a building issue Simco was aware of and working diligently to fix. then - nothing. The cockraoches continued to multiply, and the phone calls I placed stopped getting returned. The pest control guy would call ME to let him in to the building to perform his maintenance because Simco never aranged for a staff member to be there to let him in for the "shared spaces" in the building. They refused to come unlock what used to be laundry/garbage rooms on each floor (now half of them are just locked so the building only has to pay for a washer and dryer on every second floor) even though many of the apartments infested with roaches happened to be next to these garbage shute rooms. Eventually I called the City health inspector but even they couldn't do anything because cockroaches are not considered a health issue (just the feces and bacteria they HAPPEN to track in to your home on their disgusting bodies IS) After 6 months of nothing improving I start hearing a drip coming from the apartment above us right above our tub. I informed Simco immediatly, the next day they had a plumber out, informed me they oculd not find a leak anywhere and to call the onsite manager they had recenlty hired the very second I heard it happening again. The next week at the exact same night and time I heard the drip and placed the call. It was late in the evening so the onsite manager said they would have to wait until the next day to check out the issue with a plumber. Same story, plumber comes in Simco calls me and says at this point I am making it up and hearing a ghost noise, call if theres any sign of water. The access pannel they used to get up there is now hanging on by 1 nail, I can see in to the hole, and all I can think of is that there are roaches up there! Finally, the third week same time same hour the water starts dripping again, this time it comes IN to my tub from the ceiling dragging all the disgusting stuff up there in with it. I make the call, they bring in a different plumber the following day and low and behold the problem is so bad there was a leak for weeks (maybe longer!) and this second plumber finds enough mold the City tells us they want us out of our apartment in 10 days so they can remediate. Thank god this counted as our landlord breaking the lease, we got out of there in double time, but the landlord refused to do a walk through and return our DD until after the remediation. Again, I am on the phone with Simco and every single time I called they refused to give me any informaiton on when the apartment would be done even though they knew about everything I had been through, that my landlord was a snake, and that I needed to get back in to recieve my money back. My landlord was refusing to answer my calls, Simco was dodging me, they are all terrible - AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

As an owner of two condo properties I see and hear people complain in our meetings because their problem is not number one on the agenda. Not Good Simco is not organized at all and seems to be incompetent. Upon a simple request for a payment receipt re( service charges) No response after three requests --just gave up. When one pays for a service (no matter what for) one receives a RECEIPT it is standard practise. Bed side manors (for lack of better words) does not exist. read more
