They were selling it at a fair price, so I decided to take the car in to get a prepurchase inspection that Tuesday. I told the owner I would be returning the following Saturday with my husband for him to look at the car, and ultimately give the go ahead to purchase it that day. I had been in contact with Bob the whole time and felt like I was transparent with my intentions. (I mean, no one pays for a prepurchase inspection if they're not genuinely interested) Anyways, I get a text message on the Friday, one day before I go in with my husband to purchase the car, saying that he sold the car to somebody else. Being in the new/used car market since my other vehicles were ran over I decided to stop in to Silver State Imports. When you drive by you see a wide variety of vehicles to choose from. They do have almost every vehicle make on the lot with a wide variety variety of prices, which is a plus. I saw this nice Nissan on the lot, but it didn't have the price listed in the window. I called the phone number while standing on the lot and a gentleman answered the phone. I asked him what the price of the car was that I was looking at. He stated that he didn't know and that he was security and to call back Monday since they were closed. I thought it was odd him stating that because the big bay door to the shop were open, and I could see other customers and salespeople on the inside of the building from where I was standing. I walked up to the building and I asked them what time they closed. The gentleman said 7, then he turned around and said that we close at 5 PM. And then another gentleman said that if we had our vehicle on the lot that we needed to move it. I thought it was odd that they would say they closed at 5 when it was 6 PM at that time, and all of the doors were open, and they were assisting other customers. From the impression that they gave me, I do not believe that they wanted my business, so I left the lot and decided not to go back. THEY WILL SCAM YOU!!! This is my first review ever. I am disappointed and feel the need to warn people not to purchase a car here. I bought my first car here over the summer from Bob. I only had it for one month until I started hearing the brakes rubbing together. It sounded like I had been driving it for years. Last week, I took it to the shop and the brake pad was completely gone and chewed up by the caliper, which was broken. I got that replaced, as well as the rotor. It cost me $600! I also think there's a slow leak in one of the tires because it tells me to check the pressure every couple weeks. I wasn't told about any of this before buying. They know exactly what they are doing here. There is no way that these people didn't see these things before they sold me the car. No one should be in the shop for a $600 brake job ONE MONTH after buying the car! I also know one other person who bought a car here a year ago and have already had to replace their windshield wipers and now their AC isn't working. I wish I read the reviews or got a pre-inspection. I will never come back here. read more

Most reputable dealers won't tolerate those 'old school' tactics now. Due to ethical sales~client relations skills, I was hired by a top Wall St firm. '70s 80's OMG get to the point ! My ability at age 67 to evaluate car salesman and car dealers is based upon A LOT of experience on BOTH sides of the transaction. My 22 yo son shopped at Silver State Imports recently after seeing several older affordable Toyota 4Runners on their website and began focusing on a pretty nice looking '07 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4WD grey/grey leather with high mileage of 214,647. Age and mileage a concern but he also scheduled a PRE-SALE INSPECTION by one of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hills BEST independent Toyota~Lexus~Prius specialists, Lynn Tromba, owner of Affordable Car Care on Capital Blvd. He had done extensive online research, his twin brother has had AMAZING reliability and impressive snow performance in Boone NC with same year and exact model 4Runner bought with 142,000 miles, now 225,000 miles, still going strong ! My son enthusiastically examined every pic, shared with family members, and arranged his down payment and SECU financing, surprisingly SECU had NO PROBLEM with the high mileage based upon Toyota longevity and strong resale value, even offered 4% financing which surprised me. A few minor cosmetic issues like cloudy headlamp lenses (common yellowing) and a tiny crack in R/S mirror cover weren't a concern for a $9995 car. Besides nice 11-yr old 4th Generation 4Runner Limiteds are becoming harder to find. People just keep driving them practically forever it seems ! A 2-hour expert inspection revealed EXTREME neglect by previous owners, the only thing ever done was oil changes and brakes according to CARFAX. Badly seized brake caliper, wheel bearings, cracked exhaust manifold, leaking A/C evaporator (requires removing entire dashboard) bad shocks (OE) missing bolts under the car, loose skid plate, universal joints had no lubricant, etc etc The only key was the valet key. You can't reprogram a new key or unlock the rear hatch or glovebox with the valet key ! Total Repairs $3,301 ! ! ! Admittedly, USED SUV with lots of miles, VERY affordable price. Time Out: 'If it seems too good to be true it probably is' Time Out 2: this freaking 4Runner, totally neglected by previous owners, needing costly repairs nearly 1/3 asking price, still had strong V-6, drove reasonably well w/ few mysterious noises, and was still mostly solid with decent leather interior, body, and paint ! We didn't buy it of course (smarter to just but it was a tedious time consuming VALUABLE lesson for my son. It took his only day off but we spent some good quality Father~Son time, which unfortunately is rarer than I would like. Thanks Lynn Tromba @ Affordable Car Care in Youngsville NC on Capital Blvd for saving my son from a nightmare car for a mere $76.14. Lynn and his Top Technician spent 2-hours inspecting and driving this Toyota 4Runner up and down Capital Blvd. We just went down to Waffle House and had a leisurely lunch. Brian Pippin was gracious upon our canceling the transaction, kindly returned our $200 deposit and wished us well. We talked the next day and remain friends and ex-military buds. Note to Owner Jimbo: Now that you have detailed documentation (which I paid $76.24 to get on your vehicle and gave you a copy) from a Toyota Master Technician that your 'Rough Black Book' auction car is in an UNSAFE condition, (seized brake calipers) if a buyer prospect were to have an accident due to brakes in disrepair, THATS ON YOU DUDE ! Buyer beware: I will disclose that this is my own fault for not doing my due diligence. I recently purchased a used, "as-is" vehicle from Silver State Imports, and it drove fine during the test drive, I checked the engine, and fluids, everything looked good. No more than 2 days after driving off the lot, the car leaked all coolant, developed an obnoxious heat-shield rattle that wasn't present when I tested the vehicle, as well as wheel bearing grinding. The cynic in me, would tend to believe that Silver State was probably aware of the issues and chose to mask them to get the car sold, but that is not an allegation, just a theory. This is simply a word of caution to anyone purchasing from this dealership, or any used car dealership for that matter. My experience with Silver State Imports had to be "one" of the most racists encounters I've had in my life! I walked in their lobby at 5:43 p.m this evening (they closed at 6pm) to inquire about purchasing a vehicle I'd seen on their website, after standing there waiting to be greeted (as they watched me from their office for about 3 mins) the salesman, Bob Banie then walks out with a disgusted look on his face and said "we're closed" and I then asked, "if they closed at 6pm" and he said "yes" and I said to him "well its not 6pm yet" and he said, "yea but, we're closed" and then he walked back into his office and left me standing there. So I walked out the door to tell my husband about my experience with the salesman. I then see Bob by the gate entrance outside, so I walked up to him to get his and his mananger's information so that I could file a complaint on Monday with his manager and he proceeds to give me his information/card and tell me in a "condescending" tone that they had to close early because of an emergency (not once did he apologize for his actions). He then aggressively asked for my name and when I gave it to him, he acted as though he couldnt pronounce it properly (which lets me know, he really didnt care nor did he respect me as a person!) it felt as though he was making fun of my name. I then walked off, got in my vehicle and left the premises. I understand that we're living in some trying times with racial inequality and all of the "unfairness" that's shown towards African Americans each day, however when I walk into a place of business to "make a purchase" I expect to get the same level of treatment as my peers. It shouldn't matter if I'm a man, a woman, black or white, I should be greeted and treated fairly. I really hope things begin to get better in this world but I must say, its not looking promising! We were looking for a specific car. A late model VW GTI. We wanted reasonable miles a clean CARFAX a manual transmission and a two door. It was also a chance to continue our sons education on purchasing large ticket items. Horrible! Bought a 2010 GMC Sierra truck; horrible. In the six months since I owned this truck; my mechanic calls this truck Christine (after the movie about a red vehicle that was demon possessed). I believe the truck had been wrecked & somehow avoided CarFax. Headlight sockets were broken. The rear tires were illegally bald in the middle, due to poor alignment which was corrected & tires rotated to the rear. Once they were washed and Armour-All'd, they looked fine. The A/C leaked out two weeks after I purchased it. Breaks were bad. Rear speakers totally did not work, TPMS has issues, Fuel System Relay module had to be replaced. I've had electrical problems & these are just the things I can remember. My friends laugh at me & say the hood is open more than the doors. Let me recount our user experience with this place. I've purchased five used cars in my life. It is a rule of thumb to always negotiate the price in my family. My partner and I went in, found a good little car, and were dumbfounded to find that the lot owner was unwilling to negotiate even a hundred bucks off of a formerly crashed car that has been sitting on the lot for three months. In fact, Jimbo was outright rude in our conversations. Our experience at other car dealers on the same street is that they started the conversation by saying don't let the price make you walk out the door - we can make something work. Wow, just wow. Love the service! I was free to walk around the lot by myself without some sales guy tracking my moves and explaining facts about cars I don't want. Then when I did stop and talk to the sales rep about my car, they were super helpful and very knowledgeable. They were truthful about things they didn't know and tried to answer all my questions. I emailed this dealer about a vehicle on their lot. They were priced close to the retail NADA guide, but a little high. Since my credit union would base a loan on the NADA guide I inquired about whether they could come close to that price. What I received in response surprised me. "I have no idea what retail is on a rare 7.3 Excursion diesel. Pricing is based on supply and demand. Thanks. Tony Jameson" I would have figured a return quote or some back and forth in negotiating rather than a snide comment. For a business where car sales and customer satisfaction is key to success, I was surprised to find out that this dealer has little ability in both areas. They would not pay to have them fixed. i have no idea how it passed inspection with them when the lights didn't work. Their response was all purchases are "as is". This company just cost me $2200 for not verifying that my insurance was switched,I went two months without insurance and if I had not had a minor accident would never have known. My insurance company would not cover the lost! It was changed at the DMV and on my registration but not my insurance company, this put me and my lender at great risk. I assumed everthing had been done correctly. They refused to do anything about it and did not return my call several times. I intend to let the courts decide this one. I checked one of their vehicles and found a major problem with it. They still would not drop the price even one cent. At that point, I should have walked away, but they insisted they knew a place I could get it repaired on the cheap, so I bought it "as is." After getting the vehicle home, I discovered other faulty items (such as the radio, cruise and climate controls not working), and also that the spare tire was missing. I returned the next day to a huge change of attitude. All of their cheery smiles were gone, and their opinion was "Oh well, you should have FULLY checked out the vehicle. The transaction is done now, so it's not our problem anymore. As for the spare tire, somebody must have gotten into the vehicle that we left unlocked overnight and stolen it. We'll see if we can find you another one." So, I phoned or visited them every week for a while, then every month, until I figured out that it was just a load of BS and they had NO intention of ever making good on the deal. Within six months, I would additionally need to get more than $12,000 worth of repairs to that piece of crap they pushed onto me, but the cheapskate penny-pinchers never did even get me a replacement spare tire. I was in a car accident a week ago, t-boned by a girl who wasn't paying the slightest bit of attention and she ended up totaling my brand new Jeep. I looked online and saw a used Jeep Compass that immediately caught my interest. On a whim, at 11 PM, I put in an inquiry. I got an incredibly fast, friendly response from Justin who told me he would have the keys ready for me the next day whenever I wanted to stop in. I had work until that afternoon, but Justin let my boyfriend look at it without me and drive it to my workplace so I could test drive it back to the dealership. I mean, what other dealership lets you do that?! Amazing! I don't have the best credit score, but Justin and his finance manager, Jeff, worked diligently to get me a price point that I was comfortable with. I never once felt pressured to buy it, and I never felt that I was being rushed out just so they could get to the next sale. I have always felt that way in other dealerships. buyer beware!!! these guys are scam artists who care nothing about their consumers. shameful of them to try and sell vehicles that would be a living nightmare and financially devastating to anyone who made the mistake of purchasing. i drove 6 hours round trip to look at a car and here is a list of some of the things wrong with it : power lift-gate inoperable. both tail lights on hatch were cracked. moisture in passenger outer tail light. rear windshield washer inoperable, leaking into driver's side rear pillar. vacuum pump leaking oil, bank 2 valve cover gasket leaking. upper timing chain cover leaking as well. light oil leak near bank 1 valve cover on upper chain. front bumper somewhat loose. lower/belly pan missing. drivers side under body shielding badly broken(fuel line cover). vehicle had many communication faults with onboard modules. back hatch full of water- stay away from this dealership!!!! read more

I went around the parking lot 3 times looking for it and no one came out to help me, even though I could see people walking around inside. Since no one came out to assist me in any way I decided to look up the same car at other dealerships in the nearby area. After I found the car, I went to the other dealer and now in the process of filling out paperwork as I write this. they have a nice selection of cars but their customer service sucks, they have lost my business to the competition. read more

Bought a 2004 Lexus RX330 for my daughter here and a week later she walked out to a flat tire. She had to have AAA tow her to one of their service stations and found out that all 4 tires were bad as well as the spare. Not only were they bad from dry rot but extremely unsafe to be driving on! We are just so grateful our daughters who drove the car did not get hurt from a blow out while driving on the highway! Bought new tires from Discount Tires on Six Forks Rd who said if we just bought the car it should have never passed inspection! We will not be buying any other cars from them and will be letting all the people we know, know about this situation and how the dealership did nothing about it when we let them know the tires were all bad and 3 of them were made in 2004. We just want to make sure no one else makes the same mistake and ends up getting seriously hurt! read more

I bought a car there a month ago with lower miles. I recently took it into the mechanic because of a rattle that occurred each morning when I started it. The mechanic told me that it needs $3500 worth of repairs and this issue was present when I bought it. I brought it to the attention of management at the dealership and was told that it's not their problem. I guess I should had read some of the other reviews online discussing similar issues.
