Silver Spur is FANTASTIC! I visited on a whim when driving through Menard (most places were closed because it was Easter but they were open) and had the best experience... service was great, food was delicious, portions were huge, and price was reasonable. FAST FACTS: * Parking - some spots right out front * Closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday * Check their Facebook page for events, specials, and more PRICING - The total was $50.65 after tax ($4.52) but before tip for an unsweetened tea ($2.79), chips and queso ($9.19), grilled chicken sandwich ($12.19), chicken fried steak ($19.49), and mint chocolate chip ice cream cake ($6.99). I think the pricing is VERY reasonable for the food quality and portion size. CHIPS AND QUESO (8/10) - Fantastic appetizer for the table to share for cheap! You get a mound of thick tortilla chips (or pork rinds), a skillet of green hatch queso topped with some fresh pico, and a smaller side of a thick salsa. I'd order this again! GRILLED CHICKEN SANDWICH (9/10) - Massive sandwich with a huge pile of shoestring fries (or tots) on the side. The bun is fluffy and nicely toasted, the grilled chicken breast is seasoned well, and you get fresh spring mix, tomato, pickles, and onion piled on top with honey mustard. I'd order this again! CHICKEN FRIED STEAK (10/10) - One of the best chicken fried steaks we've had! It's a huge portion of steak (8 oz) topped with peppered gravy, two sides of your choice, and a roll... everything was seasoned well, fresh, and delicious! I'd order this again! MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM CAKE (9/10) - The desserts vary but this ice cream cake was fantastic! The level of mint was perfect and it was a good size piece to share at the end of an already very filling meal. I'd order this again! Honestly, there was nothing I didn't enjoy at Silver Spur! Obviously I'm not a local (you can tell it's the type of place where everyone in town hangs out) and just happened to stumble across it while traveling through but I will 100% stop by again when I'm in the area! Absolutely fantastic and filling meal for a very affordable price with those hometown Texas vibes that are always appreciated! Small town charm, huge Texas welcome! We took a drive down to Menard from San Angelo to have lunch at the Silver Spur with friends from San Antonio! We were blown away by this awesome western saloon gem, from the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty thanks to Cierra! From the saddles hanging on the wall, to saloon doors in the bathroom, beautiful black-and-white photos of old Texas, the attention to detail is outstanding! It's worth the drive to Menard to hang out in this very special place, make sure you stop by and say hi to Cierra! She was the best part of our lunch- above and beyond service! read more

We went to Silverspur in Menard on a Saturday evening around 8 PM. Right when we arrived, the place felt a little chaotic--staff seemed overwhelmed, especially the host. While everyone was friendly, the overall customer service could definitely use some improvement, including our waitress. She was very nice and polite, but clearly overwhelmed. She didn't tell us about the crawfish boil special until the owner happened to come by and mentioned it. She also forgot to bring us refills for our teas unless we specifically asked. And when we did get refills, there was no ice. It felt like the team could benefit from more training to create a smoother experience. That said, the atmosphere was really nice. They have an outdoor patio with chairs where a live singer was performing. It was a great touch for the Memorial Day weekend! Now for the highlight: the food. I ordered the ribeye meal, which comes with two sides and a roll--all for just $39. It was an amazing deal. My ribeye was cooked perfectly to medium and was honestly one of the most delicious steaks I've ever had. I heard the owner runs a ranch, and you can really taste the quality of the meat. For my sides, I had the broccolini and truffle mac & cheese--both were flavorful and a perfect complement to the steak. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals. One minor hiccup: we were charged for each tea refill, which was a surprise, but it was thankfully corrected at the end. All in all, Silverspur has fantastic food, a great outdoor vibe, and friendly staff. With a bit of polish on the service, it could easily become a go-to spot. read more

I believe in Divine providence. We are driving from California to Ft Hood to visit my son and his wife. We got on to US190 only to find that it was a holiday weekend and most (all) places were closed, an the very verge of hangry starvation. The Silver Spur caught out eye. It looked very cool and welcoming from our first glance . Going inside we were seated and the Goddess of service hospitality and delicious food, Mindy appeared to take care of us. What else can I say ... smash burgers, the edge, wings, grilled quail legs, and the coup d graw....bread pudding served in a small cast iron pot! I was passing through Menard, and I thought I would give it a try based on a friend's recommendation. Wow I was surprised. It's a game changer for the town. Lots of locals, which is always a good sign. Top quality service. I had four people, besides my server Izzy, ask me how I was doing. These people are trying hard to make it a go, and they did. I had the chicken fried steak, and it was awesome. It's not your greasy spoon. I highly recommend it. The windmill reverse ceiling fans is a nice touch. read more
