Dr. Bernstein has been my dentist for well over 12 years and I just love him! He and his staff is…read morealways very professional and willing to help in any way! The office is very clean and they make every effort to ensure that the dental experience is comfortable and as peaceful as possible. I absolutely LOVE my dental hygienist too! I will never leave this practice. They are so very thorough with the 6-month examinations (I don't have any cavities, so that's all I get). They also ensure your teeth are super strong by taking x-rays and reviewing them with you to show you any change each year. I've also had the pleasure of seeing Dr. George for a night guard - darn stressful job has me grinding my teeth - and he is very nice and professional too! Didn't I say I will never leave this practice? Good :)

Can't believe I'm reviewing dentists here but honestly Drs. Bernstein, Perkins, and George are the…read moretrifecta of dental awesomeness. I lived in DC and had terrible experiences with three different DC dentists, including one offering to give me botox during my cleaning. Um what? This resulted in me avoiding dentists at all costs. My parents see Dr. Perkins and thanks to my love for all things sugar and soda I eventually ended up in the chairs of both Dr. B and Dr. G over the last (ehhh) six years or so. Most recently...my visit wasn't by choice. A filling or something or another fell out as I was happily crunching on tortilla chips when bam I needed my first root canal. Dr. George worked me in and dealt with the situation way better than I could have imagined. I went to the root canal specialist then back to him and oddly it wasn't the terrible experience I was anticipating. Kind of weird but also kind of refreshing. I just went back for my cleaning and have an appointment for fillings. Not something to brag about but they're the first dental office that's made me feel comfortable about actually coming back!

My experience with Dr. Puterman began a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away--before Covid…read morewas a word, let alone a plague. After consulting with a number of specialists, the consensus was clear. Dr. Puterman is the best at what he does in the DMV--and my particular case (don't ask) required the best. I confess, I was skeptical. But a little more than half a decade (and several surgeries later (don't ask), I have a functional mouth again. Not only teeth that work but teeth that look great. Best of all, the pain that tormented me for decades is gone. GONE. Obliterated. Throughout this ordeal, Dr. Puterman stuck by me. And I by him and his extraordinary staff and colleagues. Dr. Puterman was always honest. Always fair. Always honorable. Always kind. And always decent. This is not what I would have expected given the intrinsic challenges of my case and the fickle nature of human biology that doesn't always cooperate with titanium and bone grafts. And yet--here I am--finally some five plus years later. Grateful beyond words for my experience with Dr. Puterman. Don't get me wrong. I won't miss being in his chair for scores of additional hours. I'm a grateful patient. And what makes me especially grateful is that we made it--together. If you desire the best that modern dentistry has to offer, there is no one better--more capable, skillful, and honorable. I could not recommend anyone more highly. Puterman is the best.

I had a panic attack during an IV sedation appointment with Dr. Puterman. Dr. Puterman was unable…read moreto sedate me (which I get, that happens sometimes). However, he didn't stop. He continued to work on me through my panic attack, and never even reached out to my husband who was in the waiting room. I couldn't speak due to the dental dam, bite block and all the instruments in my mouth, so I just lay there, hyperventilating with tears streaming down my face. I was severely traumatized. Weeks later, when I approached Dr. Puterman about the trauma, he dismissed my concerns, gaslighting me by questioning the validity of my experience. He even went on to tell me that his family member's panic attacks did not present in that fashion so I must not have been having one. He called me by the wrong name, patronized me, and completely disregarded my concerns about my very disturbing experience. To make matters worse, he went as far as involving my father (a retired sedation dentist who administered the exam to Dr. Puterman for his IV sedation license) to dispute my account. He tried to get my father to agree that I wasn't having a panic attack and that he didn't do anything wrong (News flash - My dad is well aware of my history and conducted all my dental treatment up until his retirement. He didn't agree). If you seek compassionate care, and especially if you are tough to sedate or have anxiety, I would advise considering alternative dentists who prioritize patient well-being over financial interests. There are many other very accomplished dentists out there who treat the whole person and don't just see dollar signs.

This began as a referral from the primary dentist, so it was not based on our search for a…read moreperiodontist. The appointment process went badly from the very beginning, due to a staff person seeming not to have sufficient short-term memory to get a name spelled correctly, despite my spelling it out s-l-o-w-l-y and clearly, about 3 or 4 times during the phone conversation. [NOTE: Then on the invoice prepared on the day of the visit, my name was STILL not spelled correctly - not a minor misspelling, but an unbelievably way-off wreck of a spelling.] Upon arrival, I was informed of a consultation fee. I have no argument against such a fee, as it varies with different providers how they charge or do not charge for an initial consultation. But in making an appointment, the patient should be informed up front about any fee - which I was not. Rather than dealing with the original question that brought me there, the emphasis seemed to be on trying to sell services and treatment that had not been suggested by the referring dentist. (In particular, the suggestion that no previously done x-rays would be adequate for what he needed in order to make an evaluation.) At their suggestion, I emailed a full set of x-rays that are recent enough, much less that one year old. The understanding was that this would provide the needed information to make a treatment plan. But during the next 5 days, there was no acknowledgement of receipt of the x-rays, as well as no plan, nor any feedback about whether or not this information would be sufficient. It was my position that it would be best to terminate this relationship, and since no real information was conveyed, to refund the fee and to go our separate ways. But NO, they refused to refund anything - despite their failure to provide any normal, professional feedback communication. I was told that a plan or report was sent to the referring dentist (unconfirmed), but I (the paying patient) was not copied on that, nor informed that it was done. To add insult to inefficiency, there was nothing remotely resembling an apology for any misunderstanding. I have no real basis upon which to question the doctor's training or experience. But with this kind of unprofessional communication and rotten attitude in their office, why bother when there are plenty of other qualified professionals with much more professionally operated offices?
