Silver Gate Lodging has the best location for staying right outside Yellowstone National Park if your interest is spending time in Lamar Valley. It is a three-minute drive to the park entrance and is also close to Cooke City, the neighboring town. I spent three nights here and was pleased to be close to Lamar and the wildlife--on previous visits to the park, I had stayed inside Yellowstone, closer to the geysers and hot springs. The lodge has motel room and cabins. The rooms are quite basic. I was hoping for a microwave in my motel room but had to walk to the next building to find one in a common area. The tavern nearby has good but not great food. The general store is quite well-stocked with snacks and souvenirs. It is also the only location that has internet access--you do not have internet connectivity in the motel rooms or cabins. Five stars to the staff at the store, especially Tom who is an expert on the area and generous with his advice. You will find him sitting by the outdoor fire in the evening hours. I will be back here next time I visit Lamar Valley. For location alone, this lodge is worth the stay. read more

The actual is better than the website pictures. I was pleasantly surprised. The cabin was cozy although I would prefer a sofa to a second bed. Someplace comfy to sit. I enjoyed making dinner in the kitchen. It was adequately stocked. The fire pit circle near the WiFi was a nice touch. People came gathered around and checked their social media. The bed was super comfortable, I slept really good. Close to the park although I enjoyed the wildlife on the west side of park better. I heard Moose are near ice box canyon but I was long gone by that time. I would definitely stay again. read more

Lean pickings forget food, BUT the Royal Wulff tavern was great fun on a Tuesday with live music and a lean menu, but great for a small town in the mountains. Not really even a town, but a wonderful place to hang out. MANY cabins to choose from. Ours was back away from everything, but there are cabins closer to the action. Don't miss this! read more

The cabins at Silver Gate are ok, but if you are going with a larger group, avoid the Amphitheater House at all costs!!!! 1. We did not have power or water for 2 of 4 days and they did not even care, let alone try to make good on it (no water = our part of 7 could not even go to the bathroom) 2. Cleaners did not come by once and we never even got the trash emptied or new towels (it is promised daily) 3. Staff was pretty rude about everything There is A second cabin outfitter across the way in Silver Gate, I highly recommend going with them. This experience was supposed to be relaxing and fun, but we may as well have camped in Yellowstone - instead we spent a lot of money - extra because we had to throw out all of our food - so we could Eat out the days there was no power, not shower, use dirty towels and drive to use the bathroom. Silver Gate Lodging in Montana is a hidden gem nestled in the Beartooth Mountains. The cabins are beautifully appointed, offering spectacular views and a cozy atmosphere. We arrived late at night and the Staff had kept our keys outside the grocery store. Also that's the only store in that area which has wifi for some connectivity. The rooms are cozy, clean and had a full kitchen for us to quickly warm up some food. They also do have outdoor bonfire area - Perfect for nature lovers seeking tranquility and adventure. read more

Loved this place!! Everyone in this little town are so nice and friendly. They're dog friendly & the owner has a dog. He is so sweet he follow us to our cabin and hang out with us and our dogs. They have WiFi but it's only at the main store. Which we didn't care! That's what vacation is all about enjoy nature, disconnect your self. It's a great thing to be disconnected from social & the world. We would be coming back. They give you a coupon buy a drink get one free! Hell yes!!! The service is fantastic. The ladies at the front desk were very accommodating and welcoming. The general store for checkin was very rustic and cozy. The individual cabins were perfect for the glamping feel. You are able to have a bonfire in the evenings - we even had a bison join us by our campfire. If I was to experience glamping while vacationing in Yellowstone - this would be the perfect place! Dog friendly place! Only downside is the internet didn't work for two days. Also the cabin had no hot water, so we had ice cold showers. read more

The first time we stayed in Bozeman, next Gardiner The Yellowstone River Front Cabins were nice they have two bedrooms rooms and washer and dryer, this time at Silvergate we stayed in the School House, it's the smallest cabin about 225 sq feet it has a small stove and oven , very little storage area and no washer/dryer and a tiny bathroom but we loved it. They have a wild Bison that wanders in from Yellowstone and a fox that hunts on the property I'm sure there are a lot more critters around at night and that's what we come to see when we are in Yellowstone. If you are looking for an upscale place to stay or like being catered to you should look elsewhere but we loved it here! We wish we could go there more often read more

Awesome, cozy and close to Lamar Valley. We stayed in Silver Gate Cabins, Montana(MT) during our trip to Yellowstone National Park(YNP) and it was a wonderful experience. We were there from May 29(evening) to June 3(morning). Picked the north east corner due to its proximity to Lamar Valley. May be as a beginner to YNP we shouldn't have done that and we were a touch apprehensive about it. Especially about the driving we would have to do to get to other parts of the park. Now that its over, we think that was the best decision we made. The cabin we picked was a kitchenette as we wanted to cook our own food and not drive long distances for food. We got to Silver Gate cabins at about 6:30PM on May 29. There we got our keys at the Silver Gate general store(http://www.pineedgecabins.com/general-store/silver-gate-general-store.htm) and Henry Finkbeiner at the store gave us a small guide book(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1495142345) that he wrote. The book contained gist of his 25 years of knowing YNP. We found the book to be very useful. Henry was very kind to give it to us and other guests for free. You can also buy / rent spotting scopes & binoculars at their shop. Got to our cabin(cabin 5). Parked in front of it. It was a very cozy wooden cabin that had a queen size bed, small kitchen which was well equipped with flame gas stove, coffee machine, toaster, fridge, utensils & paper towels. There is a land phone available outside the general store and can be used to call the hosts if you are in need for anything at the wee hours. The store was about 5 minutes walk from the cabin. Cabin was also nicely decorated with art work mainly focussing on the local wildlife. Hello all! I dont do many reviews, but couldn't not with this place! June 2nd-7th my husband and I stayed in pine edge cabin number 3 and my sister and her husband in cabin 4! It was 5 of the best nights ever!!! Cozy beds, plenty of space, bathroom and kitchen! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would! From the second we walked into the general store greeted by Maddie we KNEW we were in the most awesome spot! The feels you get the second you get there is AMAZING... maybe it has something to the welcoming staff, the wild bison walking all around or the incredibly cute cabin we stayed in, but one thing is for certain- WE WILL BE BACK, AND WE WILL BE STAYING AT SILVER GATE LODGE! This lodge is only 1 mile from the northeast entrance of the park which means you get to drive thru Lamar valley every time you enter and leave! It was easy going in and out of this entrance with zero wait! We were also only 3 miles from Cooke city! Recommend you eating at the beartooth cafe-MM MM GOOD my burger waa on point and my husbands bison burger...well let's just say it waant on his plate long lol! the location of our cabin was also great for AMAZING local hikes outside of the the park! Ask the front for a local hiking sheet and you won't be disappointed! My favorite was sheep creek and all 7 hikes ended you at beautiful waterfalls! The complimentary scope for renting the pine edge cabin was a GAME CHANGER and a phenomenal addition! We would sit on our front porch after a glorious day of hiking and search for the mountain goats and sheep, not to mention find cool waterfalls coming out of the mountain that you can't see normally! On nice nights the general store will have a fire in their awesome fire pit! We encourage you to head over there and hang out with Chance(he's knowledgeable and tons of fun!), if your up for that sort of thing! Bring your hot dogs to roast or smore kits! The locals are fun and look forward to hanging out! If you want a more private fire then just make one in one of the many pits around the lodge! A few of the nights we are at the cabin we cooked instead of eating out, so stock up before you come. The kitchen is stocked with just about all your cooking utensil needs. Nothing like cooking in the kitchen looking out your back window and seeing a bison chillin' under a tree or leaving your front door open while your husband grills on the provided grill with bison walking by(keep your distance they are wild!) And of course sitting on the porch for every meal just makes it taste even better! The views are stunning!! If you don't feel like cooking, no worries! Walk across the street to the diner! The grilled chicken salad was amazing! It may take a bit longer than usual so plan accordingly and just enjoy the view while you wait! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner! And if you forget something the general store probably has it! Don't forget to walk over to the Range Rider lodge for an adult beverage before heading back to your cabin! The place is pretty darn cool inside and Chris is top notch! Don't be scare to meet your neighbors! We did!! Fun times sharing stories at the end of your day and everyone is always so friendly! I can't leave out Rommal!! This is the mayor of the town (he's a dog lol) he greeted us while walking across the street to our first hike there! In fact, he led the way the entire time and even barking to alert us of a bison laying in the woods right by the trail! When we would stop to take a picture he would just sit and wait for us! He makes his rounds daily and is such a love! I could go on and on but writing this is only making me miss it more lol- So in a nutshell- if you need 1 night or 10 this place will not disappoint! Lastly, if you stay in cabin 3 look for the walking stick! My husband carved it while we were there and we encourage you to carve your name in it too!!! Let's keep it going for years! I had booked this place a few weeks ago, and it was overbooked for the original cabin I was going to stay in. I was offered stay in the lodge, which wasn't described to me all that well, but it seemed like a bargain, since they mentioned it had a lot of rooms or space or something. We arrived incredibly late, and were lucky that the night shift manager working at the general store was still open and was ready to close. He showed us the Lodge, which is this beautiful 100 year old historical log cabin building, which was previously used as a bus depot in the early 1900s to bus tourists into Yellowstone when cars weren't allowed in the park. Rumor has it that Hemingway used to frequent the bar here as well. It's dorm-style lodging, meaning bathrooms and showered are shared, but the sexes are divided and marked. The place creaked every time you stepped, the walls were kind of thin, but my bed was comfortable and that's all I really wanted. It's still in the process of being renovated, so they don't always allow too many guests to stay there, but it was such a neat place. My favorite place to stay on my trip, even though there was no cell service and internet. read more

At the end of a very long day of driving, I drove into Silvergate thinking I would just pass thru and find a place in Yellowstone. It was dark, the road was under construction, and I just wanted a place to crash. I spotted a bunch of people sitting around a fire outside of Silvergate Cabins, quietly sipping a few beers. The front part of the place doubles as a store and the front desk. The have a few (8?) motel rooms as well as some cabins in back. The cabins were booked up and I was lucky to get the last motel room at a great price. The motel room had a rustic, wood-paneling look, and had a stand-up shower and kitchenette. Not 5-star city accommodations but you are just about 100m from the NE entrance of Yellowstone. What made the place great was meeting the owner, Henry, and Bob, the guy running the show that night. Henry gave me some great tips about the park, such as the Mammoth Hot Springs. After I settled in, I bought some beers and sat outside by the fire. Bob joined me and gave me the run-down on the small town. A few locals stopped by as well, which made for a fun night of conversation. It doesn't really get better than this around Yellowstone. read more

I can't say enough good things about our 2 nights staying at Silvergate Cabins. It's a world away from the maddening crowds of West Yellowstone. The year round population of Silvergate is 5 which helps to make it a tranquil paradise. We stayed in cabin 2 that had 2 double beds, kitchen, dining table and big bathroom. The beds were so comfortable with their 400 thread count sheets and warm comforter. There's also a nice porch with chairs, table and a Weber grill. One small complaint was at cabins 1 & 2 the parking spaces get pretty wet during the spring because of the snow melt (small potatoes). Henry at the store checked us in and was super friendly. He wrote up a guide to Yellowstone that is so informative and which he gives to guests. We brought a couple of steaks that we cooked on the Weber. Henry was so cool he let us borrow his lighter fluid so we could get our charcoal started. From the front porch there's an awesome view of the mountains. I'll go ahead and call it a "postcard" view. There's a big building next to the general store and cabins. Turns out this used to be the local house of ill repute back in the 1800's when this area was a mining boom town. Looks like it could have been used a bar or restaurant more recently but, now sits vacant. We went to the cafe across the street for breakfast and were happy campers or should I say happy "cabiners" (review to follow). A great place to stay and we'll be back. read more

They helped us with information about horseback riding tours, made couple of calls to some ranches and tour company as we did not have internet connection. We stayed in cabin WP5 in Aug 2020. The other cabins may be a lot nicer but this one should not be rented out. The floor slopes, there is exposed wire, and the few lights (which are there) flicker (luckily the electricity stayed on for us). There are no lights in the one area available to put suitcases. I appreciate trying to keep historic cabins, but this one needs serious structural renovations. I do not recommend staying in this cabin (WP5). read more

These are more than cabins. This little spot is a state of mind. There's not much to Silver Gate, but it's got everything you need to look forward to after a day in Yellowstone. Let your kids run around the fields. Cook up a family meal in your rustic cabin's kitchenette -- or savor the killer trout dinner in the little restaurant across the street. Best of all, hang out on the porch of the main building/front desk/store in the late afternoon. Bob will probably let you borrow his binoculars so you can take your turn spotting mountain goats on the huge peak across the street. And then as evening falls, he'll build a fire and you can hang out with the locals and travelers who collect there to chat. This is a heavenly place that will calm you down and make you smile. read more

We stayed 3 nights July 13-16 in the School House, and loved it. We cooked in our very basic kitchen, and ate on our front porch. Loved the views and the proximity to Lamar Valley, where we saw everything from grizzly bear to wolves to eagles and bighorn! We never did get to meet the owner. We loved our cabin and the whole atmosphere. The shower stall is quite small but hey, it's a cabin! We can't wait to come back and see the newly renovated fire pit area in front of the general store. We love that idea, as we did walk over and enjoy the big fire at the lodge across the street, where we were very welcomed. Not fancy at all, but was just what we wanted. read more

We decided this trip to stay in Silver Gate as we've stayed in Cooke City several times. We enjoy the Log Cabin restaurant for breakfast,so booked what we thought was a cabin across the street at Silver Gate Lodging. When we checked in, we ended up in the small motel right behind the store (our fault for not checking the confirmation more closely). The room was small, with a refrigerator and a table/chairs with a queen bed. While the walls were thin, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The power went out when we first arrived but came back on about an hour later which was a good thing as the night temp was expected to be below 20 degrees. We've stayed several times in Cooke City - both in motel rooms and cabins. While this room was acceptable, we were charged $150 plus tax, which is high compared to what Cooke City offers. For less $ we could have booked a cabin, with TV (which isn't essential but nice when the town shuts down by 6pm) and had a bit more room to move around. We'll stay in Cooke City next trip. If the price at Silver Gate Lodging had been closer to $100 - $120 a night, the small space would have been acceptable, but not at $150. read more

Stayed in the large house for a week with four others and had a wonderful stay. One bath was ok but required consideration Of others and planning. Bunk bed in one room was too difficult to get in and out top bunk for an adult because it didn't have a ladder. Steps were thin hard metal square rail and hurt with bare feet so we didn't use it basically. Great kitchen with gas stove and big fridge with freezer. All supplies and extras within so didn't need reprovisions. Had to request drain be unclogged in tub and was addressed right away. Had to request more soap -they are very small And I would recommend bring own big bar for shower. Lovely view Of mountains. Great cafe across street. Call and see what is open so you know. When we were there early May only a few restaurants open and best were the log cabin cafe across street in silver Gate and the Miners saloon in Cooke City. Prospector not bad in Cook City those who were open had limited menus. General store was not open so stock up before. One of the best pizzas I ever had was at the M saloon - amazing crust NY style. Already planning our return trip. Nice location relative to Lamar which is our favorite end of park. Off peak expect low staff and less availability of staff and short office hours. Zeke was super helpful and went above and beyond to help. Maddie very pleasant and helpful. Grocery store was not open yet for season while there which was bummer. House was decorated With many products sold in store but we could buy any. read more
