The food is elegant, extremely flavorful, well though out, and superbly executed. The service is warm, accommodating, and friendly. The dining room is in an old Victorian style house with antique furniture. Even as a dining guest, we got the feel of a bed and breakfast fine dining experience. Even at street events like the BBQ cook off, The Big Yellow House offered amazing, gourmet food that complimented the event. The owners/chef/front of house are wonderful people we look forward to seeing every time we eat there. TIP: BYO Beer / wine.

Silver Gate Lodging has the best location for staying right outside Yellowstone National Park if…read moreyour interest is spending time in Lamar Valley. It is a three-minute drive to the park entrance and is also close to Cooke City, the neighboring town. I spent three nights here and was pleased to be close to Lamar and the wildlife--on previous visits to the park, I had stayed inside Yellowstone, closer to the geysers and hot springs. The lodge has motel room and cabins. The rooms are quite basic. I was hoping for a microwave in my motel room but had to walk to the next building to find one in a common area. The tavern nearby has good but not great food. The general store is quite well-stocked with snacks and souvenirs. It is also the only location that has internet access--you do not have internet connectivity in the motel rooms or cabins. Five stars to the staff at the store, especially Tom who is an expert on the area and generous with his advice. You will find him sitting by the outdoor fire in the evening hours. I will be back here next time I visit Lamar Valley. For location alone, this lodge is worth the stay.

It is located in a spot that is completely wooded yet you have incredible views of the surrounding mountains. We saw moose, deer (within 10 feet of our cabin porch) and birds we had never seen before! Each morning started out with coffee on the cabin porch where we lingered just appreciating the woods and the wildlife. It thundered and rained nearly every day but for short times, so that no plans were spoiled. Carol and Pete and their dog Kelly are gracious hosts providing all the creature comforts (tv, cell service, laundry) along with opportunities to see a mother moose and her two calves enjoying a salt lick - thanks to Pete! We had easy access to Silver Gate and Cooke City, especially "Stop the Car" ice cream! We were within 7 minutes of the NE Entrance to YNP, so we made many trips into the park where we saw buffalo, goats. fox, wild horses and a grizzly bear! This was the trip of a lifetime! Thank you so much Carol and Pete!! We intend to come back! Judy and Rick H.

Both modern and historic in all the right ways. Very friendly and accommodating staff. We were on a bike trip and didn't have time to check out the spa--but they have a spa! We checked in around 4 pm or so and there were gourmet donuts at the front desk. Complimentary we were told for as long as they lasted. I don't have a lot of life policies, but never passing up a free donut is one of my top 3. Delicious donuts. Side note--we learned the next morning at breakfast that those "free" donuts in the afternoon were only there if the for sale ones didn't sell breakfast. Fair enough. The breakfast in the bar area was excellent. Sad that at least in last 2024, the bar isn't really open as a bar due to inability to adequately staff it. Sucks how much we destroyed ourselves in 2020-2023. Sitting in the bar here having cocktails before going to bed with the ghosts would be so amazing. Highly recommend staying here if you're in Red Lodge (and I highly recommend staying in Red Lodge if you can). I hope to be back.
