Great place to have drinks! Friendly bartender and chill atmosphere! I would definitely come again.

While this bar may have gotten some new found fame as being a "cool stinky dive bar," I'm not sure management knows how to handle it. The main concern is these new bartenders. Silver dollar had their regular bartenders who were pretty good at what they were doing (I'm hoping they were on vacation when I last went), I'm guessing with the new people, came in new bartenders. These girls can not handle what it is to work a busy bar and if they do, they chose not to. While some people are waiting up to 20 mins for one drink, "good looking" men get drinks for themselves and all their friends in 5. All the girls there are young oblivious and only serve the men that catch their eye. I was thinking maybe it was a one time fluke but it happened to several other girls in the same night until we got together and got her attention by being not so nice. If that's what I have to do to get a drink at a dive bar in Chula Vista, I'd rather not. read more

I didn't care for the strainer that they pour the left over drinks, ice, straws exc. Being over the sanitizer sink. So basically they pour everyone's germs back into the clean water that they are washing and sanitizing the glasses in.. Big no no and very disgusting! read more

I stopped into the silver Dollar today (Jan 29, 2015) on a quest. That quest was to find the bar that my Dad drank in, back in the late 40's while stationed in San Diego. I was attending a fire department seminar at the san diego civic center, my dad knew I was going and he mentioned the "silver dollar" and something about a lady bartender way back when, who had a pair of propeller tat's on her tush. I stopped in today, and told my story. Jenny the bartender, along with a regular named Walter, did some research and found that the bar has been in business since 1939. When I told her the story, Walter took my picture in front of the bar and then drew two propellers on napkins that Jenny was nice enough to tape to her backside (outside her pants of course) I took that picture and sent it to my Dad who was absolutely gobsmacked that I was there and that they did that. To Jenny, Walter, the lady who was working the jukebox today and the other folks there, thank you for putting up wth me and thank you for making my Dad's day!!! This place was cool. The staff was friendly but the bar was busy so we didnt get anything to drink after waiting 10 minutes. Good for the bar but we decided just to check out the band for awhile. It was a Smiths cover band that was playing. The crowd seemed friendly also didnt get any bad stares for my man bun gypsy look. read more

No tap beer :/ Pool table and some good music makes up for it tho. Cool decor and everyone here seems laid back. Comfy dive bar...and It's actually clean too, which is rare for a dive bar. Overall... I'll definitely be back :) read more

Silver Dollar - Dive Bars Near Me - Chula Vista, California

I walked in Sober, and I proceeded to the pool table. There was an elderly man in a wheelchair at the end of the bar near one end of the pool table. I asked the female bartender if the pool table was ok to use. She said yes. I proceeded to play pool alone. After 2 games, I ran out of quarters. I went to the lady bartender get more, and was told I had to buy a drink to keep playing pool. I said ok and I ordered a Club Soda. So I give the bartender lady a 20 bill and ask for 2 bucks in quarters. I assume the Club Soda is not free. I was listening to my music app with ear buds in both ears the entire time I was in there. The lady bartender told me that I almost hit the elderly man in the wheelchair with the pool stick. So, I asked her if I could play at a different pool table, away from the bar. She said no. The thing I do not understand is why have a pool table so close to the bar??? And she said I could use it in the beginning. I was extremely careful with the stick near the elderly man in the wheel chair. As far as the club soda, which I was going to pay for, it turned out that I got kicked out for being too loud. Whatever. I will not be going back to this establishment. There are Plenty of other establishments with pool tables in downtown Chula Vista. read more

Bar is cool, drink prices a dollar higher than normal. If you want to listen to your music on the jukebox, don't even think about it. Owner deleted any tag that has to do with hip hop or rap, or Spanish. Not AMI's fault tho. read more

Use to come here ALL THE TIME when Mike was the DJ. I hated the drinks because the bartender sucked at making them and there was only 1 even when it was extremely busy, but the karaoke made all the difference. I would have given it 5 stars for that. Since he left, the various DJ's keep getting changed out and the place just doesn't have anything fun about it. Plus, the drinks still suck. I'd give 0 stars if it was an option. THIS BAR SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN!!!! WOMEN, DO NOT GO HERE!!! Went here last night and I witnessed the sketchiest scheme. Apparently this girl was a "regular". She and the group she was with were all on some kind of drugs, including one of the securities, who she later claimed she did not know. They were going up to girls and separating them from their friends, taking them outside, asking them their ages, getting them more wasted, and when we seemed to be noticing what was happening the group got together all wide eyed and shaky and the security said we need to back off. We, three young women, were not loud nor violent. We tried to ask the girl who had be separated from her friend if she was ok and she could barely speak. We tried to find her friend, she was no where to be found. When we tried to get a taxi for her alone but the whole group started to get loud and more aggressive. We left. The drunk girl came out after us said she didn't feel safe. Then the original girl who was blonde came after her banging on the door of the hookah lounge next door. Then we got in our car and left. They followed us until we stopped at a 7-11. It seemed as if they were scouting girls. This bar should be shut down. The security was a part of it, that is not ok. Red flags everywhere. I'm not the type to assume the worst, but I've never witnessed anything like this in my life. read more

Okay so I know I have to give this a better review later since I've only been there once. I went on a Saturday night because we wanted to try different places around CV. It is an old school karaoke bar with a kick ass system and the service is fast. The crowd is much much older than I am used to and it felt a lot like a talent night where one sings, everyone sings along while sitting and that's that. For sure a kick ass place I think for a weekday when you wanna just sing your heart out with your friends and have a good time but I felt it wasn't good for a saturday night at 12am. Also they don't accept cards... that is an automatic -1 because I do not carry cash all the time. read more
