When I arrived at her gravesite, I was saddened to find that her marker was dirty and covered with dirt and grass. I asked one of the Rose Hills employees for assistance. He told me that someone had already been called to help, but after waiting 15-20 minutes, no one came. Because I didn't feel that he was being truthful, I took a picture of the truck as it drove away. A short time later, Alejandro came over and kindly asked if we needed assistance. Ironically, he was in the same truck that had previously been there. Despite the extreme heat, Alejandro took the time to help us with kindness, professionalism, and compassion. While it was disappointing that the first employee was unwilling to assist us, I want to publicly recognize and thank Alejandro for his outstanding customer service. Employees like him make a lasting difference. Job well done, Alejandro! Lastly, Happy Heavenly Birthday to Destiny Williams, Kim Branch, and my beloved Aunt Renee Antwine on this July 27th. Jason, who helped us throughout the process, was incredibly patient, kind, warm, understanding, and accommodating. He made us feel genuinely cared for without ever being pushy or making us feel pressured to add anything to the service. He listened to what our family wanted, respected our wishes, and made an overwhelming process feel so much easier to navigate. The mortuary itself is beautiful and has such an intimate, peaceful atmosphere. One thing I especially appreciated was that when you are holding a service, it truly feels like the space belongs to your family. There aren't other services happening at the same time, so you aren't crossing paths with strangers or other grieving families. Having that privacy made such a difference and allowed us to focus completely on honoring my dad. What meant the most to me was how respectful Jason and the staff were of our family's Chinese-Cambodian Buddhist traditions. They welcomed our monks and accommodated our religious and cultural requests without hesitation. They turned off the illuminated Christian glass during our service so the space could better reflect our family's beliefs and traditions. They also allowed our family to walk through the mortuary with my dad as part of our final procession with him, which was incredibly meaningful to us. They even allowed us to bring in our own joss paper burner for our ceremonial offerings. Because it was still far too hot to safely transport after the ceremony, they graciously kept it there for us until we returned to pick up my dad's ashes. That may seem like a small detail to someone unfamiliar with our traditions, but to our family, their willingness to accommodate something so culturally important meant so much. There are so many decisions to make when you're grieving, and the last thing you need is to feel rushed, pressured, or as though your family's traditions are an inconvenience. We never felt that way here. We felt cared for, understood, and respected. Jason and the team at White Emerson gave our family the space and flexibility to honor my dad in a way that felt true to him, to our family, and to our culture. During such a painful time in our lives, they made everything as easy and seamless as they possibly could. I will always be grateful for the kindness and compassion they showed my dad and our entire family. They had reception parlors for the food buffet as well as dine in tables. Filipino receptions at funeral services honestly are very lavishly prepared with an array of entree dishes and desserts! Our mother was young and healthy when she passed, therefore we had not prearranged any services. We found ourselves scrambling to call funeral homes and mortuaries a few hours after her passing. Losing our mother was a traumatic experience in itself but finding the strength to move on with life hours after your loved one has passed is another challenge. I knew from the moment I spoke to Barbara that we had found THE mortuary. I spoke to a handful of other places and they made things feel like a business transaction but everyone at Risher showed us that they truly care. My siblings and I were scared and heartbroken going into our first meeting with Nancy Valdez but she made us feel secure and she knew where we were coming from as she shared that she had lost a loved one herself. Nancy truly treated us like we were her own children. Her every action made us feel like she truly cared and wanted the best outcome for us. Our mother is from Nayarit, Mexico and she always wanted to return to her lindo Nayarit. Nancy and Gloria at Risher took care of everything. We submitted the necessary documentation and they handled everything from there. Nancy was very open and let us know from the beginning that we would be facing a 5-6 week process and that the process would be delayed due to the holidays. Our mother stayed with Risher the entire process and Nancy would update us with the timeline and she would also give little updates on our mother. Lastly, the service was above and beyond. Our mother asked us to have a celebration of life in her honor and that is what we did. We had a live banda playduring the viewing and had a slide show of our shared memories in the background. We knew that a lot of people would come to pay their respects and wish their farewells so we decided to rent out their additional hall for the extra space. We sat in a meeting with John Wong, arrangement counselor, and he reviewed with us and our agent what was had purchased at that time. They answered all our questions. Lucky for us that the changes we made, we did not have to pay extra for. We appreciated that both the agent and John spoke in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese so my family and I were able to understand what was asked of them and what needed to be prepared. Saturdays are extra $$ if funeral would be held that day but weekdays are no additional charge. They let us know where we could ask the guests to deliver the flowers and where to meet. They provided us with a map on where to meet for the viewing and where we go to have him buried. We had to come back several times because there were several clothing articles we needed to drop off to be put in the casket. During the day of the funeral, we were surprised to see our agent there and our agent and the helpful staff guided us through the funeral process for our grandfather. They provided the fruits and the bowls we needed for prayers, and the standing flower sprays that were ordered with the guests and family were arranged in the room for us. The staff were patient with us while we were all grieving. They gave us several small burning bins so we can burn money for our grandfather. I see other funerals there and the signs are posted on which room is for which loved one. I highly recommend Rose Hills if you want to bury your loved one here. The only thing I don't like is that even though you have a map, it's easy to get lost up on those hills: they need better and more signs to direct us to the different areas and where the exits are.

The funeral home may want to have someone better trained or more knowledgeable handling phone calls, as first impressions and communication are incredibly important during such a sensitive time. We've also left several voicemails and were told by other staff members that someone would call us back, but we never received a single return call. It's especially unfortunate because we wanted to use this funeral home since the cemetery is in Monrovia, making it a convenient option for our family. However, due to the lack of communication and poor customer service, we've decided to look elsewhere. I hope this feedback encourages improvements so that other families receive the support, professionalism, and timely communication they deserve during such a difficult time.

Everything went how it should. Even though just going here as a friend passed away, the value of coming here was priceless as it was the exact place that this needed to be. It's a little bit far from where I live, but it was right next to the freeway so it's easy access to get here to leave quickly if needed. These things are never easy to go to, however, if you need a place for a final service, I would definitely suggest here.
