Amazing spa experience in Barcelona! I found Silom due to its proximity to my hotel, and the five star review by my friend Hilary H sealed the deal. My search began on a Saturday evening. I wanted to book a couples massage for Monday afternoon, and Silom is closed on Sundays. I used the message feature and the business owner, Gina, got back to me right away and was able to hold a Monday afternoon appointment. To confirm, I had to go on their website, purchase a voucher, and then provide the number.
I got a little overzealous when booking on the site and added on a 30 minute soak, without even thinking to check with Gina first. Fortunately, she was still able to accommodate this longer appointment but I know it was an inconvenience and I'm super grateful that she was able to work things out, regardless.
Upon our arrival, we filled out some forms regarding strength preferences and areas of focus. Next, we were given slippers and taken to our treatment room. Silom is a Thai spa and everything in the decor and soothing atmosphere reflected that. Our treatment room was dark, with flickering candles, and a large soaking tub and shower towards the back. Relaxing music provided the background noise.
My massage was awesome. The therapist got onto the table and used her bodyweight to hit some pressure points. It was slightly painful in a good way, and then she moved on to a lighter, more traditional type of massage. By the time it was over, I felt truly relaxed, and my husband was pleased with his massage as well.
The only slightly awkward moment was our transition from massage tables to soaking tub. The therapists waited for us to get into the tub before programming the soak, so there was a whole lot of skin flashing and awkward climbing. The therapists were totally professional and left the room once the program was set, but I'd probably skip the soak in the future, to be completely honest. The hot rainfall shower I took after would have been fine on its own.
Finally, we relaxed in a lounge with tea and water, which was a nice way to end the experience. The prices were comparable and maybe even a little less expensive than those at home. I'd recommend Silom for a peaceful break from the city! read more
