Worst hair salon experience in my life. Stylist was 25 minutes late, which wouldn't have been so bad if the rest of the experience wasn't so appallingly awful. She was very friendly at first and appeared to be listening when I told her what I wanted. As she was washing my hair, she felt the need to mention multiple times how coarse my hair is (once is enough - I already know my own hair's texture, believe it or not), and how coarse hair is dry and brittle (yes, this I know).
She did a decent job washing my hair, and the cut started off ok. I told her my hair has been limp since it's gotten longer, so I wanted a little length off overall and also some long layers to add a bit of volume. She told me she also has coarse hair and layers are a bad idea. She described short layers and said how awful they are on my hair type. I said I understood, but that I wanted minimal layering, and keep them long. She cut about half inch all the way around as the top layer - I guess when she heard "layers", to her that actually means one layer. When I told her I was concerned about not having enough volume, she repeated to me that layers were bad for my hair type.
Then the worst part - the blow dry. I told her I wanted a blow-out. She proceeded to dry my hair as if she were going to style it curly. After a few minutes, I told her that I wanted her to dry it straight. She seemed confused that I was requesting this, but started to blow dry it "straight". She used a paddle brush, repeatedly striking against my ears and pulling roughly all the way down through my hair, which is long and easily tangles. She gave me the mirror, implying she was done. The blow dry job was so bad and incomplete - I still had damp hair and a huge frizzy mess, so I asked her to straighten it.
She seemed annoyed that I was asking her to straighten my hair. She began to use the straightener, "straightening" the top pieces only, very briskly and again, roughly. After about 3 minutes, she gave me the mirror again. My hair was still very much damp. My hair looked awful. HORRIBLE. Very frizzy and poofy, like a witch. It wasn't straight OR curly - it was just garbage. I asked her if she could use some product to make it smoother. She said she already used product and that my hair wouldn't straighten. I've straightened my hair several times in the past, with good results, though I must say that it takes me more than 3 minutes. I am also much more gentle with my hair than this lady, who even said that my hair was brittle, but tugged and brushed at it as if it were her job to re-create all the damage that she had just cut off.
I was fed up and just wanted to get out of this nightmare, so I got up and paid, was charged a whopping $42, and immediately put my embarrassing hair in a bun and left the mall. I rinsed my hair as soon as I got home to restore it to it's natural state.
