I'll start from the beginning. We ordered 3 trays for a brunch party that started at 11am. Wanting everything to be fresh we opted to pick up the morning of. 10am was the earliest available. I was there at 10am sharp. No one anywhere in sight. After 10 minutes of panicking I asked the front desk (the shop is in lobby of hotel). The manager went up stairs to tell them to come down. At 10:35 I had my order. When I saw them I was very underwhelmed and told them so. Party starts in 30 minutes. What choice do I have? Hardly any bagels got eaten due to the fact that they were hard as rocks. Bottom line. Go somewhere else.

I found Grey's online after wanting to find a local cheese shop that might have some options that…read moreare not available at the grocery store. I was excited to see the shop and was very interested in purchasing some cheese. My husband and I drove 45 minutes from across town to visit the shop. It also happened to be the Friday after the large ice storm we recently had, so we were happy to be able to support a local business after they had to close for a few days due to the weather. Upon arriving, we parked in the garage and walked around for a good ten minutes trying to find the shop. There is no good signage to show you exactly where the shop is, and walking around in 25-degree weather trying to find it was frustrating and we almost left. We finally found it, and upon walking inside, it was a warm and inviting space. There were two employees in the shop/restaurant area - one was helping a customer at the register and the other was talking to a friend/customer from behind the cheese counter. We were looking at the wall of non-cheese items, which seemed like a nice selection of crackers, mustards, honeys, and other accompaniments you could purchase. We walked up to the cheese counter and started looking at the cheese in the refrigerated display. We went back and forth between picking up cheese to see what it was and patiently looking up to wait for someone to acknowledge/help us. While we stood there, another employee came out from the back of the restaurant to bring samples of cheese to the customer at the register and promptly went back into the kitchen. The friend/customer of the other employee left, and the second employee that had been behind the counter moved out into the restaurant and started wiping empty tables. At this point, we had probably been in the shop for a good ten minutes. None of the employees acknowledged we were there, not even to say they would be with us shortly or to offer a hello. At this point I was frustrated, so we left to go to the bathroom in the hallway and didn't go back in. I'm not sure if we weren't "hip" enough for them to even say hello to, if we didn't look the part or what, but being completely ignored in a tiny shop for over ten minutes was beyond rude. I was so excited to visit this shop, but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths. As they say, "you never get a second chance to make a first impression", so we will find other places to spend our money.

We each started with a wine flight which we all very much enjoyed. To eat, we started with the French Cultured Butter and Bread which was incredible. The bread was super fresh and had some seasoning on top that was just so delicious. It was served with a seasonal jam and French cultured butter. I'm not usually a fan of jams, but whatever this jam was almost turned me into jam lover. It was super smooth and not overly sweet, pairing well with the butter in a way that made me smile. The cultured butter was also so delicious on its own. We also ordered a charcuterie board which came with two meats, three cheeses, the same bread as the other dish, almonds, pickles, and jams. It was a lot of bread given it was the same bread as the other dish we had, but it was all so good, we didn't mind. Everything was super fresh and each one of us gravitated towards different cheeses, meats and accompaniments in such a way that you could tell the selection was well-rounded. My friends each also ordered sandwiches which they loved. They mentioned being short staffed that day and the service was a tad slow, but thankfully it didn't impact our experience much. This place is an absolute gem and I'll definitely be back!

The staff were super nice and gave me helpful recommendations for what to ha have. I had the harvest melt sandwich which is a turkey sandwich with brie, squash, turkey, seed pesto, and a sage leaf on sourdough bread. when I went, though, they were out of sage leaves which was fine by me and were also out of turkey so I had it with chicken instead. I haven't had this sandwich with turkey, but I thought it was excellent (and dare I say, better) with the chicken. The bread was perfectly golden brown and crispy and which went super well with the soft texture of the squash and chicken and the tangyness of the brie and pesto. It was just such a delicious sandwich and I can't wait to have it again!

I tried this place 3 years ago when I was passing through Nashville on my way to Texas. I loved the grilled cheese so much I had to stop again on my way back through Nashville. Thankfully, the quality and taste of the food has not changed since my last visit 3 years ago. Which is an unfortunate common situation. Everyone in my party ordered something different, so I was lucky enough to try a bit of everyone's food. As I said before, I got the pimento mac and cheese grilled cheese, it was the perfect blend of all flavors. Others got the classic grilled cheese which had massive cheese pulls, and chicken pesto grilled cheese. They have a milkshake bar with a variety of flavors, the restaurant is designed in that classic "old school diner" style. The milkshakes were big, they even give you the extra that doesn't fit in the mug. Everyone in my party had raving reviews which only confirmed that this place has not changed. Will be looking forward to coming back here on my next visit.

Is paying $10 for a loaf of bread a little excessive in this economy? Maybe. Don't tell my accountant, I file this under "health and wellness". A fresh, crusty loaf of sourdough with good butter counts for health and wellness in my life okay. Jay is phenomenal- so personable and remembers you and your favorites. He makes you feel like you're just in a living room chatting like old friends. Please give him more money he deserves every dollar y'all make on this insanely delicious bread. Pro tip because the bread has no preservatives and goes bad faster due to it being so fresh: I slice it as soon as I bring it home and pop it into freezer bags and into my freezer. Then I reheat a slice whenever I want some bread. I just throw it in my oven and turn it on then about 10-15 minutes it's perfectly thawed and toasted, but experiment and find your own method. Or just eat a whole load of bread in one sitting if you don't care about being thin and hot so your boyfriend still loves you. You do you boo, we don't judge in this family. Jesus forgives and so does Alyssa.

Ended up going with the Big Boy with provolone, onions, and bananas peppers. We also got a side salad and cheese curds. Portion sizes of sandwich was pretty good, sides not so much. Salad was fair for the price. Cheese curds for $8 was steep for (I'm pretty sure) not handmade. I'm spoiled from Twilight Tavern's. The sandwich itself just didn't really stand out. Probably the most critical thing I have is I don't like the pricing model. $16.50 gets you the sandwich with cheese and grilled onions. That's it. Each additional veggie was 50¢ more. As a customer, I would prefer something like sandwich + two add ons as the flat rate. Dinner ended up being $40 for two and we only got one sandwich. All this being said, I may be missing what makes the sandwich so iconic. The meat itself wasn't particularly tasty or seasoned. The bread was unremarkable. Like maybe they are counting on a nostalgia factor that I just don't have. Most likely wouldn't go again unless there's something happening (i.e. trivia, group hang, etc).
