don't recommend Silk Cuts in Elk Grove, specifically because of the owner, Sam. He was rude, disrespectful, and crossed personal boundaries. I'm in the military and get a haircut every two weeks. I've been a regular customer and usually tip between $2-$5 each visit. Today, because of his attitude and rudeness, I didn't tip. He immediately said, "No tip?" in a rude and disrespectful way in front of everyone. I told him politely, man to man, that you don't talk to another person like that and that being the owner doesn't give you the right to disrespect customers. Instead of handling it professionally, he escalated the situation and used profanity toward me in public while I was in uniform, making sure other customers could hear. It was humiliating, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. I don't recommend this place for people in uniform, people with brown or black skin, or anyone who speaks a language other than English, based on how I was treated. There are many better barbershops in Elk Grove that treat customers with respect. read more

Hair cut was cheap and quick. My barber was helpful figuring out what I wanted and was very charismatic

First of all I'd like to say this barbershop is terrible. The owner is vulgar and curses aloud even if children are around. They never open the shop on time very unprofessional. Another thing I tried all 3 for haircut stylist and all are super bad with fade cuts. I tried not to be picky but when other people notice you have a terrible haircut it's not good. If you want a haircut here think twice, you get what you pay for and their prices are cheap. The last straw was when nobody's in the shop they tell me they're on lunch and to wait the customer service is garbage! read more

Been taking my son here and this time "it was my son's fault" even though he has had this haircut style before. When I told Sam the owner that I was not satisfied with the end result he said it was my son's fault and I had no right telling him that I did not like the final cut. He was not even willing to offer a discount nor hear anything I have to say as a customer. Truly poor customer service. Do not come here. If your haircut ends up poorly it will never be a hairstylist fault it will yours. read more

I walked into Silk Cuts on a whim seeking a quick trim to make my hair less blunt at the end. This place had such stellar reviews for being as small and as not flashy as other salons so I figured, why not? I did have to wait maybe 20-25 minutes which didn't bother me much as I can tell the people who came in were regulars and probably consistently come in on that day and around that time. I could've easily called in and made an appointment instead of walking in. When one of the stylists, Yvonne, got to me she asked what I wanted. I told her I wanted to get some shape back in my cut but I wanted to take as little length off as possible. She took her time with my difficult, wavy, coarse hair; thoroughly combing out the knots that would magically appear as soon as we made ANY moves. She did tell me that she'll have to cut off more than I had initially wanted to achieve the shape I was aiming for. Truthfully, I was hesitant but it really turned out great. The process itself was easy going, a good ratio of conversation and comfortable silence. At the end, my hair was voluminous and layered in the way I wanted! Overall, a great experience. I got a nice, affordable haircut and everyone in the salon seemed like authentically friendly, hardworking people! Would definitely recommend if you like a reliably good cut, a relaxed atmosphere, and you really don't need the bells and whistles of a fancy salon. read more

I tried just about every shop in elk grove and wasnt pleased with either service or the cut. I love it here, all 3 employees are friendly and give a great cut. I dont need to get a special person every time. Whoever is available first does a great job, and a standard cut is only $12. Seems like fake reviews on here but they do a terrible job. I needed an emergency haircut, and asked for Sam since I saw all the fake good reviews about him. He ruined my hair and cut my hair in 5 minutes and was rough. He left marks on hair and I had to go to a different shop to correct the cut. read more

My husband has been going to Sam since 1988. My father-in-law, who lives in Stockton, still goes to Sam and now my 4-year old thinks that no one is allowed to cut hi hair except Sam. I am writing this review based on my husband and son's experience as well as my interactions with the staff. Sam has a rough exterior, but he's a cool guy and my husband and son love his work and will continue to go to Silk Cuts. The other stylist are very friendly and during the weekends, they are all crazy busy. Been here a few times and did like Evonne cutting my hair very much. My husband has also been having the owner Sam cut his hair for the last year or so. We won't be going here anymore; not because we don't like the quality of their work, but because of the owner Sam's crudeness. When we come for haircuts, we do not want to be subjected to his incessant racist, sexist, ageist, political rants and profanity. His business so he can run it how he chooses, but we also can and will choose not to support. It's uncomfortable, unnecessary, inappropriate, and truly down right gross behavior. Still one of the better local places to get a cut. The stylists are all Asian so they do a great job of cutting coarse Asian hair. That being said they know how to cut all hair so don't let that scare you. I usually go to a Linda but they all know how to do it right. It's been in a strip mall forever so it's a little hidden. This place is a little hidden gem. It is tucked away behind Taco Bell. I always get a lot of compliments when I get a fresh cut from this salon. If you want to get a good fade, ask for Evonne. Waited for 40 minutes for them to open at 10:00. Many others waiting in the cold. No one arrived to open the shop. When the guy finally showed up, he opened the door and disappeared in the back without saying anything to the 8 people waiting in the lobby. Very strange and incredibly inconsiderate. The outside is a little off putting. It looks like a run down barber shop, but I was pleasantly surprised. They did a really good job on my boys' hair cuts. The guy that did my younger son's hair really knows how to do a fade right. My boyfriend's step dad comes here all of the time and recommended them to us. We didn't have to wait long at all. They took their time and did the cuts right. The hair cuts weren't incredibly expensive. Definitely worth the money. I have beautiful, healthy long hair down to my butt. I've been to expensive salons most of my life, and thanks to my mom's suggestion, I tried Amrit. I cannot believe I can get the best haircut I've ever had for $12! I've gone to her at least 8 times, and never disappointed once.
