Super friendly and helpful staff. For buying 4 items, I got to play Plinko and won another cup!

I ended up leaving and going home to measuring the space I had in mind for the piece of furniture. I called and was told I would receive a call back with the exact measurements. Never received a call. Then I emailed. No reply. Not sure how they make sales. I have moved on since.

Previous review updated to reflect the experience of that purchase which was 5 star worthy all the way. That's the bottom line. Details follow for those interested in knowing more. DESIGN -SALES STAFF TOP NOTCH SERVICE I'd been looking for a table for my kitchen nook in the mode of "I'll know it when I see it". The one I once saw that could have been "it" was from a high end furniture maker that is usually "to the trade" only and way outside my budget. Make that WAY. In hunting for that table, my husband and I stopped in Haven Home last month and there "it" was. Well, potential to be "it" with several changes. So I was delighted to learn the table on the floor that caught our eyes had been made for Haven Home by a local guy and yes, they said, they were certain he could modify it for us as a custom piece. The friendly staff (they are all design professionals at Haven Home which is a great asset for the store) was happy to contact the furniture maker and learn that he could make this for us in solid alder, with an un-distressed base, change the top to solid from planked and modify the plinth. Great to know and "it" was found! Also, although he does a good job on his own finish work and prefers to finish his own creations, they also reached agreement with the furniture maker to provide the table unfinished so we could have the local fantabulous finishing company we have used for other custom furniture finish this for us. That was a particularly good thing, as it would have been a deal braker not to have that finish company involved. (See Morgan's http://www.yelp.com/biz/morgans-fine-finishes-bend ) Haven Home staff also negotiated a price that was fair all around, for them, the furniture maker and us. They arranged a "meet me" at the store or our home, as we preferred (we chose the store) to talk to the furniture maker in person and then were comfortable with us following up with him at his shop to verify the table was as discussed before delivery to the finishing expert. In turn, the furniture maker was happy to have us do that as well as he is dedicated to customer satisfaction with the final product. This transaction could not have been made any easier a process for us as buyers. Fun too to work with the furniture maker. We are pleased with the outcome of the table itself. CONNECTING COMMUNITY BASED CRAFTSMEN WITH BUYERS Another great service is provided by Haven by tying community craftsmen to local buyers who would not otherwise know of them or maybe use them even if they did. It was that Haven had his items on the floor for us to discern quality and stood behind the work that gave us the confidence to contract this furniture maker. This in turn supports a local crafstman who has created jobs for the two or three folks that work with him. In a community where unemployment is still in double digit figures, that kind of crasftsman - business support is a very good thing. USE THEM OR LOSE THEM While some other furniture businesses in Bend that existed before the 2008 downturn, like this one did, have been knee-capped or even done in by the home building collapse in Bend after that time, Haven Home continues on. Although it is clear the economy has had a toll on them too; as example the store is not chock-a-block with accessories and gift items and furniture as it used to be. I imagine the smaller inventories are driven by economics. So use them or lose them for local speciality stores like this. . Based on our experience, Haven Home provides top notch service and is s a great place to find quality items, both national branded and locally created. We will be happy to be their customers again. EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED TO EVERYTHING ELSE - ACCESSIBIILTY Worth nothing that once upon a time Haven Home was in a building that was inaccessible to people like me (I have MS) who can't navigate steps. I lost out on equal access to their goods and services and they lost out on my business. Now Haven Home is one of the most easily accessible home furnishing stores, both in the door and around the store for barrier free shopping. Now I am able to spend my money with their store. As unbelievable as it is, there are businesses opening all the time in new spaces in Bend, even 23 years after the ADA was passed, that have equal access barriers in place. Everyone in the community loses when that continues. Everyone benefits when places operate like Haven Home with equal access.

Thank you Jamie for always being so helpful and working with me helping me find the right products…read morefor work. I know I can always count on you helping me!

Bargreen Ellingson is distributor of supplies and equipment to restaurants, bars, hotels,…read morejanitorial companies and caterers. The Bend store is one link in the national chain.. Although clearly a trade supply store and some things (as in glassware and dishes and flatware) are only sold in gross quantities , it is open for sales to the public and there are things here that home cooks can buy in singles that might come in handy. As example, on our most recent visit we purchased more of our fav things to buy at Bargreen...stainless steel whisks of various sizes in good quality at a fraction of the price of other retail. (We've given a number of these away and hence the return for more.) We also picked up a single muddler of pretty decent quality from the bar section. As another example, if you were in the market for a big plastic, food quality storage tub in which to brine a holiday turkey, this would be the place to find one at a decent price. Or a REALLY big, unbreakable, salad bowl to take that salad for 30 to the school potluck at a price point that wouldn't break the bank if it wasn't returned. Located in the building originally constructed a couple of years ago to house Austin Tile, a great business now sadly defunct due to Bend's recession, as you enter from the private parking lot (hooray - ample parking) you'll note all the stonework on the building exterior and a massive high ceilinged lobby with a sort of spiral staircase up to the second floor. (If you're not able to climb stairs, have no worries...there is an elevator at the rear of the first floor...with nicely mosaic tiled walls to remind us all of the original tile company.) In our experience, there has always been a very helpful someone at the front desk to ask if you're looking for something specific and to point you in that direction, or to invite you to wander if that's what you are there to do. Maybe it's just us, but our recent visit to Bargreen's it seemed darker, less well stocked and overall less "zing" than on earlier visits. Bargreen's seemed to show the impact of the economic slowdown in Bend. Hard to fathom as even now restaurants seem to be opening and closing and changing hands at a pretty good clip in this tourist fueled city of about 80,000 people. But maybe the restaurant ownership changes mean old existing equipment and materials get recycled not purchased new. The second floor is where the restaurant specific glassware, dishware, furniture and accent "stuff" (like menu covers) are displayed. The first floor houses bar supplies, janitorial supplies and a plethora of kitchen use / cookware of all knds. It's probably the second floor more than the first that shows the "bloom off the rose" these days. We are people who can easily entertain ourselves for long periods by looking about in well stocked cooking stores, even in smaller stores like the delightful Ginger's on Bend's westside or the kitchen / baking section of Newport Avenue Market. We go in for one thing, and end up browsing to find something else useful. When we travel, cooking stores (and great grocery stores for that matter) are destination stops for us. We had quite a lot of fun exploring Bargreens when they first opened in Bend...but now it's a place where we are on a hunt for something specific, we get it and leave. But three stars means AOK after all, and while we recognize we are not their target market, Bargreens is that for us as home cooks. .
