Shopped at Elite Discount Furniture on Kahuhipa in Kaneohe after looking around town for living…read moreroom and bedroom pieces. It's a locally owned shop with locations in Kaneohe, Aiea, and on Nimitz, and the Windward store is an easy stop if you live on this side of the island. Selection is bigger than it looks from the parking lot -- sectionals, recliners, bedroom sets, dining, bunk beds, Serta/Simmons mattresses, and a decent amount of stuff actually on the floor and ready to go. That matters here. A lot of stores on Oahu are quoting weeks or months for a mainland special order. Staff was straightforward and not pushy. They answered questions, let us sit on things, and didn't run a hard close.

It took me 3 visits to figure out what i really wanted and found my black leather reclining sofa. Ryan is very helpful and doesn't pressure you like salespeople at other furniture stores, he's very knowledgeable about the furniture. My only complaint that has nothing to do with this location is that the delivery men, both of them walked all over my carpet with their dirty shoes multiple times before I noticed since i was signing the order on their clip board. I thought they would stop walking on my carpet after they carried the sofa in but they did not. They should know better not to dirty carpets in Hawaii and to take off their shoes. I had to clean my carpet after they left and not happy about that. Part of it is my fault for not noticing. i recommend this place because the prices are cheaper and they had the perfect fit with a more light weight sofa for my small apartment. The ordering and delivery and everything went smoothly except for the delivery folks dirty shoes.

While exploring the…read morestore and talking to the owner, John, I ended up sitting in a chair (a fiberglass Eames chair) just for fun and then ended up unexpectedly loving it, so I totally switched gears, as to what I thought I originally wanted. Bought two of them months ago and couldn't be happier with how perfect they have worked out! So, I highly recommend going in with an open mind to other options, because, hey, you never know how perfect something else might be for you. ;) John is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about mid century furniture and design. He does beautiful restoration jobs on the furniture he has for sale, so you can't go wrong when buying from him. He also is super laid back and fun to talk to-not a pushy salesman type like in other furniture stores. Exploring all the beautiful pieces in his store just makes my heart happy! Highly recommend!

He listened to what we were after and while he didn't have a dining set in his collection at the time, he was kind enough to give us a list of places in Honolulu to look. His recommendations were great, and we ended up finding one! The items in John's studio were really neat pieces and we'll be back someday to peruse his collection when we're not on a laser-focused mish for a dining set. We really appreciated both his work and his willingness to help out some folks from a neighboring island. Thank you John and look forward to seeing you again in the future!

I've rarely been this disappointed with a furniture retailer, and what makes it particularly…read morefrustrating is that HomeWorld is a local business I genuinely wanted to support. Unfortunately, my experience has been an expensive lesson in the difference between selling a product and actually standing behind it. Let's start with their nearly $300 stain protection plan, advertised as providing TEN YEARS of coverage. What I don't recall anyone explaining during the sale? You have just 14 DAYS to report a stain or risk losing coverage. Fourteen days. On a TEN-YEAR protection plan. Seriously? I work two jobs and raise a young child in Hawaii. When my kid spills something, I'm cleaning it up, not documenting the date and preparing an insurance claim. Who realistically has time to track every accidental stain and report it within two weeks? We're raising families and trying to make a living, not running a claims department from our living rooms. And here's what really bothers me: If that 14-day deadline is so critical, why isn't it clearly explained BEFORE someone spends nearly $300? They sell you the reassurance of ten years of protection, then leave a restriction that can make that coverage useless buried in the fine print. When I actually needed the service, the warranty administrator pointed to the deadline. HomeWorld pointed to the brochure supposedly included with my invoice and refused a refund. I found the entire experience misleading and frankly disingenuous. What exactly did I pay $300 for? Then there's the sofa itself. The original sofa developed persistent creaking and was eventually replaced. The replacement developed the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Two sofas. Same model. Same issue. From the apparently unreasonable expectation that a couch should survive people sitting on it. Is there a lemon law for furniture? Because at this point, I'd certainly like to know. A genuinely helpful technician adjusted the sofa, temporarily eliminating the noise. By that evening, it was back. The proposed next step? I could try lubricating the brackets or purchasing replacement parts myself. I didn't spend thousands on furniture because I wanted a side hustle as a sofa mechanic. HomeWorld waived the inspection fee, which I appreciate, but the underlying problem remains. I have no issue paying for ordinary wear and tear. I do have an issue paying to fix what appears to be the same recurring product defect on TWO sofas. And that's the theme of this entire experience. The warranty administrator points to the fine print. HomeWorld points to the third party or the expired manufacturer's warranty. Everyone has an explanation. Nobody has a lasting solution. I'm left with an expensive sofa that still creaks and a nearly $300 protection plan that proved practically useless when I needed it. If you're considering HomeWorld, scrutinize every protection-plan restriction before handing over your money. Don't mistake a 10-year promise for 10 years of hassle-free protection. Selling furniture is easy. Standing behind what you sell is apparently another matter. HomeWorld has lost my confidence and my future business.

My husband and I had a great experience working with Satoshi and Marcia and we would recommend them…read morewithout hesitation to anyone wanting a piece of custom furniture. They built a monkeypod wood bar counter for our condo which turned out beautifully and has received many compliments. From our first phone call to the final delivery, Satoshi and Marcia were nothing but gracious and professional. I had been searching online for countertop options besides the usual granite and quartz, and came across a monkeypod wood counter on their blog (which they did for a cafe in Waikiki). I didn't think I could afford custom furniture, but called anyway and to my surprise, their quote based on my idea and rough dimensions was quite reasonable! So we started the design process which involved them visiting our condo a couple times to take measurements and show us wood samples. We met another time to see the actual monkeypod slab they purchased (which is another thing I like about the piece, that the wood is local from Oahu) to make sure it was in line with what we envisioned (the color, shape/edge, etc.). I appreciated their attention to detail and good communication with us throughout the entire process. That even though we were probably one of their smaller jobs, they valued our preferences and took time to make sure we were on the same page. They worked with my contractor to discuss installation of the piece, and were very careful about putting grooves in the right places so that the supporting brackets would be hidden. For a small fee, Satoshi and Marcia delivered the piece when it was completed, and my contractor did the installation. Everything went smoothly and relatively quickly. Satoshi was able to fit my piece into his schedule within a few weeks of my initial phone call. I feel very fortunate that everything worked out and now I have a gorgeous custom piece in my home. What started as a google search ended up being one of the best parts of our kitchen/living room. Thank you, Satoshi and Marcia!!
