I selected one star for Harco credit Union because that is the least you can give. The latest…read moreproblem we have had with this business involves our Visa card from that institution. We had been having problems every month we were paying on our account when it was open. For instance if the minimum amount on our statement was $50 and we paid that amount they would then tell us the next month we hadn't paid the correct amount?!?! More than once we were were assessed $25 fees and I would need to call to get them reversed. Even though the interest rate on the card was reasonable (9.45 percent) we decided to close the card. I called them and we entered into a signed agreement with the credit union. That was over a year ago. One of the perks of doing that was that until the debt was paid off there would be 0 percent interest on the account and no late fees. Even though we were in the pandemic year we kept up with every payment as we said we would. Even so we started getting calls that we owed them some money and that we were late (how so if we were paying every month as agreed.?) I soon realized the people working there as Loss Mitigation Assistants were unkind and unhelpful people. I say this because as I was explaining to them we owed them no money one of them simply hung up on me. When I called back she said she wouldn't be disrespected by me. I did nothing to merit this behavior As the months went by I would check my physical statements and see that 0 percent interest was posted on the account. After about 5 months of checking I slacked off because I had no reason to believe anything would change And then recently I received a letter about a change in interest rates. That shouldn't apply to our account though I thought. Nonetheless when I sent a family member up to pay our agreed upon amount I requested that they ask the teller what rate we are currently paying( should be 0). They came home and said 7.95 percent. Knowing that was an error I called and got transferred to the Loss Mitigation Department. I left them a message which was never returned. Upon receiving my new statement today l checked and was charged the 7.95 interest rate. So i called the institution again determined to speak with someone and resolve the issue. I said please don't give me the Loss Mitigation Department again. The rep wasn't sure who I should talk to so I said how about the branch manager. She put me on hold and said she had talked to the Vice President of the company She assured my husband and myself he would call us by the end of next week ( this was today on Friday). We said he should call early next week and not keep us waiting. As I keep monthly budget records I started to check on past months where Harco Credit Union had also charged us interest on past months. I came up with $388 we paid this institution on interest charges that should never have been assessed. So instead of our monthly payment going strictly towards paying the principal on the account the past 8 months have seen excessive finance or interest charges. How the institution plans to remedy this I have no idea. In the meanwhile i plan to check if Harco Credit Union is FDIC insured as banks are. Sometimes the credit unions have other insurance they carry. This is very important since the rep I talked to today simply stated to us- "it was a glitch in the system. Everyone was affected". My question- 8 months and no one figured this out ?!?! The rep took a very lighthearted approach to this and seemed very amused She said she understood why I was upset. i plan to follow up with another review when I find out what Harco intends to to about this mess!!
