I have been a member or customer of SECU for more than five (5) years. I rarely write reviews. The…read moreonly reasons why I have started reviewing businesses is because from a performance improvement perspective, the voice of customers can help businesses look into the mirror, see what they are doing right, identify improvement opportunities and act on them. Reviews can also help potential customers make informed choices. I have interacted with agents at only two SECU branches. The one at 7173 Chadwick Center Security Blvd, in Baltimore and the one in Silver Spring, MD. My experience is mixed. I received a service at the Silver Spring, MD branch that later was contradicted by the credit union and although someone else had later recognized the validity of my claim (the fact that the branch manager who made the decision - positively at the Silver Spring branch did not provide me with accurate information, they still refused to address the issue and failed to waive the penalty. I had a meeting at the Chadwick branch and realized that they were more interested in protecting their people than ensuring I, the customer, was treated fairly. This led to me temporarily moving my banking out, among other decisions I made. I have resumed banking with SECU and while agents at Chadwick are generally very friendly and helpful, I suspect they don't appreciate honest feedback. Lastly, this impersonalization of interactions (they have a new system where an automated agent speaks to customers at an ATM. Technology is good, but the context of its application must be chosen carefully, so you don't end up creating an avoidance reaction from the customers. For deaf customers, this is offensive because the automated agent does not sign, and there is no CC or no instructions in the screen explaining how to activate the CC (if available).
