At least from what I've seen along my travels. Their breads, pastries, and additional standard bakery-fare are quite nice, as well. But what really stands out to me are the poppy-seed rolls and their lemon-poppy tort cake. Both of which, if microwaved briefly, manage to surpass the already amazing flavor and texture they have if eaten as-is. Check them out. You'll find something you like, and they may just do a custom order if you catch them on the right day.

Athens has options in this department with the Saturday Farmer's Market replete with at least four terrific options. But on a regular day the Athens Bread Company has you covered with lots of bread options and a few sweets. The monkey bread is a little too good frankly. I want to call out one bread in particular -- the Danish style rye bread that they make once a week. Was Wednesdays under the previous owners. Seems to be Thursdays now. Way back with the original owner, a Danish exchange student brought in a family recipe in hopes she could get this taste of home. They have been making it since. My Danish partner approves and she would say if it was sub-par.

So unbelievably happy we stopped into this bakery on our recent trip through Ohio!…read more Don't let the size of their shop fool you-- The footprint may be small but their huge selection of breads, pastries, and panini sandwiches is exactly what you'd want from a place like this. We needed lunch, and after talking to who I believe is Tim, the head baker, my hubby and I took his recommendations and couldn't have been happier. My husband's name is Kevin, so he ordered "The Kevin," which is turkey, cheddar, house-made coleslaw, and pickles. He DEVOURED it! Then wanted another! I ordered "The Laurie," which is roasted beets, Laurel Valley cloverton cheese, black pepper, arugula, and a balsamic drizzle.... People...! THIS is my new favorite sandwich of all time! It is so unique and refreshing and I am currently trying to recreate it at home! (I just need that BREAD!) I can't say enough great things about Athens Bread Company, and we can't wait to stop in again on our way from Michigan to Louisville in a few months. If you're in the Athens area, make it a point to stop and try something! Anything! Grab a loaf, a sandwich, and a bottle of flavored balsamic vinegar or oil..... I promise you won't be sorry! :)

Its a cute little brown building with a very eye-pleasing Logo Sign. We go inside (tiny parking lot also) but they do offer a drive-thru! I was tempted to get a few cookies, whooping Pies and Cupcakes because everything looked so yummy and festive! But I did choose a Canoli and a piece of Baklava! In total it was $19.02 and I left her a tip of $3 in her tip glass! I definitely recommend if you are in the Athens area to swing by. Its located beside Taco John's which we plan on trying next time we are in Athens, Ohio. Thanks for the Yummy Treats McHappys we definitely left very MCHAPPY!!!

The lady working had wonderful customer service. She was very helpful and cheerful when she found out we are new to this shop. We went home with half dozen, muffin and a canoli. My husband loved the canoli. I would highly recommend! Limited variety compared to some, but they are good with that they do have!

Pretty good! Didn't blow my mind but was a nice spot to get some breakfast while visiting Athens…read more The savory food was okay. Expensive ($16 for toast with cheese and mushrooms) and underwhelming but not bad by any means, and $9 for a bagel with egg and cheese. We got the caprini toast and it didn't have the micro greens as it says on the menu, but no biggie. The bagel with egg and cheese was very bland, and it is a square of scrambled egg, not a fried egg. The baked goods were fantastic! The sticky date cake is crazy good! It weighs a million pounds and is so thick and just the perfect texture. We also got the lemon yogurt cookie which was soft and tangy, 10/10. They have a cool little retail space for various alcohols, non-alcoholic beverages, food, tea etc. I was happy to buy some local loose leaf tea, and there were a ton to choose from! Service was fine. The person who took our order was friendly, the food took a lot longer than expected but we had time to kill so it didn't bother us. I'd go back if I visit Athens again, I'd love to try the soup!

It was disappointing that they were out of chicken cutlets because several of the sandwiches had that as the critical ingredient.
