    Gilbert Plumbing - 8_Gilbert Plumbing & Mechanical_Trustworthy Water Heater Repair Solutions.jpg

    Gilbert Plumbing

Our furnace stopped working a week before Christmas. At the same time I noticed our water heater…read morewas leaking. We got multiple bids from every HVAC/Plumbing contractor we could find. We couldn't get anyone to come out during the holidays unless we wanted to pay exorbitant amounts of "emergency hours" costs. Just as I was about to give up on the water heater, I made a desperate call to Gilbert Plumbing. I still feel bad about the way I must've spoken to Lance when he promptly returned my voicemail that morning. Nevertheless, he was overly patient and accommodating. I wanted to avoid having yet another contractor come out to look at the set up and pitch me a bid that was way outside reasonable to replace a standard 50 gallon water heater. Lance cut right to it. He told me the price over the phone which was right on par with what I was expecting to pay. I asked about scheduling fully expecting to be at least 2-3 weeks out, but he said he would squeeze me in that afternoon. I was completely beside myself thinking it had to be too good to be true. Lance asked me to send him pictures of my current setup so his installer could make sure he had the necessary parts before he arrived. Sure enough, the installer showed up in the early afternoon with everything he needed. It took him a whole 45 minutes and my water heater nightmare was fixed. I gladly sent the agreed upon amount to Lance via Venmo. My showers are hot and I am no longer losing sleep worrying whether or not the bottom was going to fall out of my water heater flooding my basement. If you need a plumber, you should call Gilbert first.

    RM Mills Construction

I would never do business with RM Mills again. If you are considering hiring them, or buying a…read morehouse they built, do yourself a favor and go to any neighborhood they built (especially up here in Lookout Point in Tremonton), knock on any door, and ask the homeowner about their experience with RM Mills. I'm betting that will change your mind. Don't be fooled by the glowing reviews online, especially the one from Zach Smith, who happens to be the CEO of RM Mills! That's not going to be biased at all, is it? And count how many times they have threatened legal action against those who leave negative reviews. You might also notice that their Facebook page is no longer reviewable. What does that tell you? RM Mills used some subcontractors who did terrible jobs. My HVAC system is so screwed up that I now have to have the whole thing torn out and reinstalled. They used the wrong size return duct (which they also put in blocking access to my sewer back-flow clean-out). There are three 90° bends in the duct within the first six feet, each introducing turbulence and cutting air flow. They had to do it that way because they put the furnace on the wrong side of a load-bearing wall. That suggests to me that they did not properly engineer the system, but I can't know for sure because RM Mills has been unable or unwilling to show me the duct plan or the res-check they were supposed to have done as part of the building permit process. They wired the heater wrong, causing undue strain on the system. I can count four building code violations in the furnace room alone! They left several duct joints unsealed, and that's just what I can see; who knows what they did under the sheetrock? They cut corners by not including the required furnace filter bracket. They just tossed a filter into the plenum chamber and called it a day. Since they failed to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, they may have voided my warranty. My system is putting out roughly half the air it is supposed to, and working twice as hard as it should to do it. The static resistance is quite literally off the manufacturer's chart! I was told I can expect to have to replace the blower motor about every two years because of it. RM Mills would not consider allowing a different, more capable contractor to fix it. Their warranty specialist, Kelly, brought in this ridiculous platform slapped together out of scrap lumber to put the furnace on rather than using an actual metal furnace stand. That's not happening! Their HVAC guy wanted to chop a hole in the cold air return duct and drop an additional filter into it instead of installing an actual sealed filter bracket. Not only would that not fix the problem because the air could still go around the filter instead of through it, it would add even more resistance to the system while still not properly filtering the air! What a nightmare! Check out the pictures. I had a garage door track that was not even bolted to the house. The door just hung there. Even after they supposedly fixed it, I had snow drifting into my garage. Kelly told me it couldn't be adjusted to fit properly and that I should nail up a board alongside it to keep the snow out! I called an outside contractor who was able to fix it in 20 minutes, but it cost me $85. He said it had not been properly installed. My dining room window was defective, and whistled like a tea kettle every time the wind blew. I fought with RM mills for about four months to get the window replaced, but Kelly finally told me the subcontractors would not do it. When Kelly gave up on it, I was forced to deal with the subcontractor myself in order to get it replaced. It did not go well. The next day, Zach Smith called me on the phone, wanting to yell at me, telling me his window contractor was mad as hell, and that I can't talk to his subcontractors that way. Who does this guy think he is? I got them to replace the defective window. If RM Mills had done their job, I would never have had to deal with their glass company. And that phone call? These are not the kind of people I want to do business with. I could go on all day about their screw-ups, but I'll just offer this piece of advice: Have any work they've done thoroughly inspected. Don't be intimidated by their CEO's bullying tactics. We gave them every opportunity to honor their warranty for the items listed here, but they wouldn't. Don't expect them to handle disputes in mediation, even though they specifically put that into the contract. When my attorney asked for it, Zach Smith contacted me (again) and refused to mediate, and told me he wouldn't even speak to my attorney until legally obligated to do so. If, after reading this, you still want to do business with them, I wish you luck!

Also,…read morerather than requiring us to uncover the lid before he'd come, he came (though several hours late) and quickly found and dug it up himself at minimal charge. Clynn didn't add on a complex inspection. He said he's learned over 30+ years that if a leach field has problems, there will be scum rings in the access, so he watched for those, and also checked for holes in the tank by looking over the floor for dirt having fallen in. Clynn advised that a plumber could easily fix the one hole in our tank with patching cement, or we could do it ourselves (and gave instructions). He offered valuable plumbing counsel about changes we were making to our drain and septic lines. A competitor recommended we put in an entire new tank and leach field in our situation. (They offer tanks and leach field installations through a partner.) It would have cost $6,000-$10,000, and required extensive yard renovation. When we asked the county health department that oversees septic systems about our needs, they said our situation should actually not require major work. We added a significant tip onto Clynn's fee, and wanted to also pass along a hearty recommendation!!
