The…read moretruth is that colleges have such a difficult time processing or understanding a UHS transcript that you will be lucky if any of the courses you take (which will be loaded with way more busy work than any actual college class is) wind up counting for credit. Anytime I ever tried to attend college after UHS I would have to spend weeks meeting with multiple counselors, having them have to talk back-and-forth between CSUFresno multiple times, and having to pay for the same transcripts several times because any other school gets so confused by the fact that it shows you attended Fresno state for too many years compared to the units you took for your timeframe and completion rates. (LITERALLY counts against you on paper.) In order to get any of your Scholastic records actually counted from UHS is a long, arduous process where you will have to fight like tooth and nail just to get any kind of record of the hours of torture that were spent filling out 7 page study guides. Also, colleges do not look favorably upon it as a school compared to any of the prominent Fresno or Clovis high schools, as it's widely considered amongst actual educators as a joke (tell a college counselor you attended UHS & watch their facial expression change into one of dread & sympathy.) Most of the students that went to UHS wound up being so burnt out from the environment of scholastic servitude and personal repression that they either didn't want to go to college right after high school or transferred out by their senior year to a normal high school. In addition to that, the social environment of the school is extremely hostile, very much an "us versus them" attitude where ultra-conservative religions & white privilege reigns, which the administrators ensure by requiring students to have already played a musical instrument. The school has been very successful at catering to their intended demographic. One of the least diverse schools I've ever seen, and definitely the most hostile to anyone that doesn't fit in their Utah milktoast mold.

The culture of the school is uplifting and nonjudgemental. My daughter is graduating this year and then starts her Psychology studies. It is a feeder school to FSU, so if you are thinking of Frenso State and your kid is musical (Singing or Instrumental) this is the place for you! Pretty much everyday when you pick your child, you will hear a band playing or the beautiful choir serenading you on campus. If your child is musical in any capacity this is the school for you.

The teachers were lovely and the education was great but having established lifelong friendships is one of the greatest blessings that you can give your children. The education system is designed to send kids to college and grad school if interested. You can literally go from kindergarten through med school building life-long connections and friends. I remember as a child when the developer Del Webb made a large donation for the purchase of the 40 acre campus. spent both 7th and 8th grade years here back in '94 and these were probably the two most memorable…read moreyears I had during my school years. it might have been a little ghetto, but besides a bunch of fights, nothing crazy happened when I was there. the teachers were pretty cool & met a lot of cool people but the things I remember most were cambodian new years when everyone carries around powder and shaving cream and throws it at everyone else, playing "suicide" (same rules as butts up, but the penalty was getting jumped until you touch the wall), the ongoing tradition right before graduation where it was the 7th graders vs the 8th graders fighting each other, break dancing in the hall ways... things got more serious in high school and got moved out of town so lost touch with everyone except a couple friends found online.
