This place just does not care. Ordered flooring and when I went to pickup they were less than helpful. I'm okay with someone being confused, but confused and rude is a bad combination. I ordered carpet for two homes from Sids. The seams failed immediately and the carpet itself frayed badly at both locations. The representative acknowledged the problems and agreed to replace it but I had to pay again for the installation labor. During the second installation the installer sliced my sheet vinyl while trimming the carpet and badly beat my metal transition strips. At the end of the day it was a very costly and disappointing experience. read more

I never bought a thing. & now after looking at the reviews its sad but I won't. I called to see if during COVID the Nat'l City store was open & got a call back the next day & yes they were. I have a grand total of just under 1900 sq ft home that I want to redo all floors. To have Cinda talk down to me & being my first flooring purchase I was/am un sure of what is high quality & what is lower quality carpet. I'm also wanting tile but could have been sold wood flooring or stone flooring. I walked out of Sids being told that they should have one of their guys measure my home because one person's sq. Footage might be different then another person's. Now if my room is 12x12 that makes 120 sq foot any way you measure it.she almost refused to "sell" me any flooring. It was the worst buying experience EVER! ONE LAST THING. As a small child in the 60s, the owners of sids were super good friends with my mom & dad. Absolute worst place ever!! Installed our office with so many scraps of carpet that there were seams everywhere! Called and told them the seams were all separating, so they sent someone out to glue them together, which naturally did not work. Came back, mind you this is now going on months, and replaced some of the carpet, only to leave another huge seam in front of the bathroom door! Not to mention they left a piece of molding off on the wall. I have never seen such shoddy work every by a company! The installers they had should never have been allowed to install carpet, plus I'm sure it would have helped also, if they could have communicated in English! read more

Took my elderly mother there to purchase some carpet for her bathroom. It was a small job. we were none the less treated very well. They took the time to show her the different samples and what they thought would fit her needs. She picked one and made the purchase and set up the appointment. The morning of the appointment she go a call 10 minutes before they were due to arrive. They stated they would be there right on time. The arrived, looked at the area and within 45 minutes were completely done and everything was cleaned up. They did a great job and she is very happy. Thanks again! read more

My family has exclusively used Sid's Carpet Barn 30 years for our home and 6 rental properties. When we purchased high end carpet for a rental property, the carpet changed color. Not all one color, but every room had whole areas of different shades where the carpet was pieced together. Yes, the carpet was 8 years old, but the issue was not with the carpets age but with the quality of this expensive carpet. We had to buy new carpet because of the vast amount of discoloration. We were given a 10% carpet discount but nothing else on our next purchase. Not on padding, not on install, etc.. We were told we would only be billed half until some resolution could be reached. We received no resolution before they billed the other half of the bill. They did nothing! After 30 years of loyalty, this is a slap in the face. I would not recommend this business to anyone after the way our family was treated. Loyalty and spending many tens of thousands of dollars at this business meant nothing to them. read more

If it wasn't for the helpful, no pressure and personable salesman, CONRAD, I would give NO STARS, or MINUS STARS. I was verbally promised, that it would be slated for Saturday installation before 12 noon, all 180 sq ft of office space. Well, NOT THE CASE. We got a call stating it would be between 12-3pm - and that there was no order WRITTEN for AM installation. Since my salesman and I agreed it would be for AM installation, its a SMALL office space and MOST IMPORTANTLY it was ONE BLOCK AWAY from this location, you would think that it would be taken care of first! This mis-scheduling became a game of pass the buck - installer said call the scheduler, scheduler said it was not on paperwork, 'manager' was not too helpful. We were waiting all day for the carpet BTW which arrived for install at 245pm! in which is the scheduler had any common sense, would of had this be the first installation, and we would not have to been there all day to finish our remodel. I was so incensed to hear of the afternoon delivery from Sids, again, just ONE BLOCK AWAY, that I drove over there to let them know how unhappy I was with this. The "scheduler" (he's the Hispanic guy always in the dress shirt and tie, avoiding my eye contact, blaming the paperwork, shuffling papers while watching the World Cup game on TV) he just said - it wasn't stated for AM - HE IS the scheduler. You would think someone would have communicated or realized the nearby address/small job/straightforward order. The manager said, "not really our problem, the paperwork didn't say so (no mention of who writes on the paperwork order", and so it was ultimately Conrad who took responsibility for the verbal agreement and assumption that it would be the first delivery - common sense right? PROS: Price and salesman, and even the nice installers. SERIOUS CONS: Customer service, responsibility, scheduling, management, LACK OF COMMON SENSE. They blame each other, they blame the paperwork and do not have a customer focused model. I also learned from the installers (very nice, BTW not their fault about the timing) that they were sent to El Cajon and Bonita first, and even they commented that it did NOT make sense to do our job last, end of day. The installers arrived at the tail end of the estimate, 245pm. It only took ONE HOUR to get ONE SMALL OFFICE of carpet, ONE BLOCK AWAY from SIDs WILL NOT BE RECOMMENDING, NOR RETURNING BACK. Come on down, c'mon down.. yeah! We've all heard the jingle for Sid's Carpet Barn but recently when shopping for floor coverings, I actually checked the place out. They are right off the 5 in National City, and they've got a big parking lot. They have an outdoor area with closeout products. I was approached by a salesperson in this area, and though he wasn't very helpful, he did pass me on to one of his co-workers who was. He showed me almost every vinyl flooring product they had in stock. Unfortunately none of them struck my fancy, or I might have more to review about this store. However, the prices seemed reasonable on some items, and down right cheap on others. It might be worth checking out if you're shopping around. They sell flooring to do-it-yourselfers but also provide installation services to those who are interested. read more

When I purchased my first home I called these guys for a quote on replacing the carpet ( as I couldnt afford wood flooring ) in the entire house, and to replace the old scratched up linoleum in the kitchen with new linoleum (as I couldnt afford tile). Yea I was on a serious budget back then. I had quotes from a couple of other places and they said that they would beat them so I decided to head down and check out their selection. As for the carpet, I picked out something very neutral with extra thick padding and for the kitchen I chose something a bit darker, mainly for contrast . The installers showed up a few days later and did a great job. I saved a bunch of money, increased the value of my then home and overall just felt better about the place. Even though it wasnt what I really wanted to do, more like what I could afford at the time for my starter home, it turned out ok and when I sold the place the new owners liked what I did. read more

Today I had a service issue with my floor. They came out inspected the whole floor and fixed an area I did not even notice! I found the price I was quoted more than fair. I came into Sid's needing to purchase new carpet/vinyl flooring and have it installed. Peter helped my wife and I, and he was excellent during the initial interaction. He told us about his family, was pretty transparent about flooring, and I thought we kicked things off pretty well. We expressed our interest to move forward with the replacement, which was going to run around $6000. He sent out a person to measure, and this man was really cool and gave us excellent customer service and information. Afterwards, I called Peter for a final price and to draft the contract so we could move forward. He said he would get back to me within 3 hours with the necessary paperwork. No problem. 3 days passed and I received no word, so my wife went in physically to sign paper work and finalize the order, but Peter wasn't there. Instead, a woman named Cinda (sp?) "helped" her out. She was terrible. She wouldn't answer any of my wife's questions, and when prompted to, she would tell my wife that her flooring selections were not good enough. She was short, rude, and seemed not to want to deal with us because she wouldn't make the commission, since Peter was working on our project. No problem. I still thought Peter was a cool guy. So, I call Peter the next day and kindly inform him that we hadn't received any paperwork or correspondence from him yet, and that we were still ready to move forward. He said he would send the paperwork "after lunch." No problem. Nothing arrived. 5 days later, I call again. He says he is busy with another customer and that he would call me back. This time, we have problems. He never called me back. Never emailed me, never called my wife, never returned any correspondence. I literally don't understand it. We walked into Sid's, did not ask for an "immediate" install but whenever was available, did not haggle on price nor attempt to negotiate it in any way whatsoever, did not put up any objections, etc. It was simple. I wanted flooring, I liked the options, I had no issue with price, I had a good time horizon, and all I wanted was to pay Sid's Carpet Barn my money and sign a contract. It didn't happen. After a MONTH of attempting to utilize Sid's services, I went elsewhere and got a contract signed within a few hours. Unbelievable service. read more

Just purchased a new condo (condo conversion) in La Jolla and the developer uses Sid's Carpet Barn (National City) for their flooring. I decided that I wanted to put laminate in the living room and dining room, and elected to use their contractor. The experience was great! I went to Sid's in National City and their retail rep, Conrad Flores, was amazing to work with. Conrad showed me all of their laminate flooring options but recommended a brand that was not the most expensive but had superior quality. A great choice! Well, well, well! No surprise here. I phoned the manager like he requested per his response and no return call. Funny thing they can articulate their version of what they say happened and say to call them but they really don't want to talk with me BC if they did they have my number for them to call me. So I originally called on November 10th. I spoke with Sinda who was helpful but referred me to my original sales guy Jason Rodriguez. I left a VM, no response. I called back and I spoke to Sinda again I explained to her my issue and she looked up what I needed and suggested I drive down as they may have pieces of what I need at the store. I drove down on the 15th. I spoke to someone who worked the Mira Mar location and I explained to him what I needed but he said he would call Republic and get back to me. I had to reach out the next day. He said he could call Republic again. I reached out on the 19th. He said he would call again. On The 19th Sinda ordered it for me. On the 29th, you guessed it. I called again to see when it would arrive. They told me it should be there by the end of the week. On the 7th, I called again to see if it arrived. They NEVER told me it was damaged. On the 9th, I called, in fact, I again spoke to someone who worked Mira Mar. He actually called me back to inform me it arrived. As anyone intelligent can see, this is all a ploy from management to try and run interference for damage control. Maybe next time management will actually call the customer and to and resolve the customer issues rather than writing false information. Again, they have my number. read more

If you are a property manager you have to deal with Rich Hadley!! I have been working with Rich for about 10 years now, and I don't write reviews, this time I had to. As a property manager I have to get turnovers done quick and Rich understands that by working VERY hard to met our needs, and has every single time. With my last minute change the carpet guy finished literally 5 mins before I received the new resident to hand her the keys. On the plus side... Conrad is patient, informed and helpful. The estimator/measurement associate was on time and did his job well. The carpet selection is expansive and I've always had good luck with those they hire for installation. The challenges: Sid's business practices are in the dark ages. Can't get (after 3 visits and 2 phone calls) a typed invoice. (They write up their orders in a somewhat illegible manner...not appropriate for me to submit to those from whom I am being reimbursed) The 'manager' has taken my e mail as have 2 associates... none of which have done what they say they will. The associates (with 1 or 2 exceptions) are uninformed, unable and/or unwilling to perform at a basic professional level. Sids... While I'd much prefer to support local small retailers .. You're just making it too hard... An update. Just received a rude call from a manager re: billing. He threatened to take me to collections and was quite unbelieving when I told him the tennant had paid the small remaining balance. After confirmation he realized I was correct and when I told hime the tennant had to leave several messages in order to have someone take his money I was again.... Confronted by rudeness. Sids... actually I did not find Sid's carpet barn very cheap. Compared to Lowe's and Home Depot, Sid's did not nearly have as many deals. We were looking for laminate or hardwood. The cheapest laminate was around $3 per square foot. And there was only one laminate that we found under $3 per square foot. Home Depot by contrast has a section of laminate on sale that were just under $3 a square foot, of which a few were significantly better quality. Home Depot also has a couple of bamboos that go under the $3 per square foot. We did however buy from Sid's because they had an installation service that would allow us to install the following week. Whereas Home Depot could not promise us anything for approximately 2.5-3 weeks. The salesman at Sid's, Conrad, was very personable and likable, but ultimately was too busy to really help us much after we made our initial commitment. Every time we called he would have to call us back much later, and never called when he promised to call. The installation service was mediocre. There was nothing wrong with the basic part of the installation, the boards looked fine etc. but the base board and quarter rounds were sloppily done. Some things were not even and looked crooked. When they cut pieces of wood, they did not sand them. I had them come back to fix it, and some things were improved but some things just looked worse. They however were super extremely nice and you couldn't fault them much because they were so down to earth and wanted to make you happy. Ultimately everything ended up alright, but I would go to Home Depot next time and not be in such a rush to install floors. Lesson learned. read more

Annoyed! Went to Sids last week to find hatdwood for our stairs. Brought home the sample, was told someone would come out to measure the space and didn't get a call until the last possible minute I told them I would like someone out. Measurements were done Tuesday and it is Thursday after closing and still have yet to hear about a quote. My husband called yesterday, I called today and was told I would have a call back back in 15 minutes ( that was at 2:15pm, it's now 6:54pm and they are closed). I had a great experience here. My parents had their carpet installed and it looks great- I haven't heard any complaints from them. I just wanted a piece of carpet to serve as an affordable rug for my baby who is learning how to crawl. I bought a 16X16 piece of carpet for 100.00 bucks! I love it! It's huge, plush, and they were very patient with me. I was very indecisive and they teased me but were very friendly. If you need a remnant come check this place out. I went in to Sid's to try and get a remnant of carpet we had previously purchased. When we realized they no longer had it Don went out of his way to contact the manufacture in LA to see if there was something they could do that wouldn't involve a huge transport cost. When they were unable to assist he took time to locate a piece for us in the area. We have used Sid's multiple times for our carpet installs and they have always gone above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. I would highly recommend their services. read more
