I've tried a whopping 12 yoga studios since moving to Northern California 4 years ago! I'm happy…read moreto say that Pleasure Point Yoga is now in my top 2 or 3, and certainly my favorite studio so far in Santa Cruz! The Sweaty Flow class on Saturday morning was our 1st experience, and it happened to be on the day of their 5 year anniversary! The studio owner herself, Aimee, led the 1.5 hour class, and it was a wonderfully uplifting class. It was a pretty packed class of about 30 people, but the studio is so spacious that it didn't ever feel overcrowded. The vibe was one of community, genuine friendliness, and openness, which I loved! I've tried a lot of yoga studios, especially chain-like studios, where it feels generic and uninspiring. My bf and I are looking forward to coming back and trying more classes with other instructors during our trial week ($20 for new students). Class packages and drop-in rates are reasonable here and not overpriced like many studios I've tried in the Bay Area. I personally love a solid Vinyasa flow or power yoga style class that both challenges me and inspires me, and I got both from Aimee's class. Her teaching style is soothing yet energizing, well balanced, playful, and you can tell she has a ton of experience because you just feel like you're in good hands whether you're a beginner or advanced yogi. Thank you for a great class and such a welcoming studio bringing the community together! It was also great meeting Aimee after the class and getting invited back later that afternoon for their 5 year anniversary celebration!

A side bonus, the sweat is the best thing ever for your skin. My skin has gotten so soft. The combination of the heat, the sweat, the stretching, the positions and the candlelight creates a unique environment that benefits both the mind and body...dare I say soul? It's not easy. It's hot and it's a workout. But, the results are well worth it. I am getting better at the poses (asanas) and that in itself is rewarding. If you are considering, I strongly recommend you give it a try! The reception area, studio and locker rooms are all very nice and clean. The gals at the reception desk are so very sweet and welcoming. The instructors are all great. They make you feel welcome no matter what level 'yogi' you are at---beginner (me) to advanced (amazing) Special shout-out to Miss Hailey Lewis. It's taken me a year to write this. I wanted it to come from the right place in my heart. I've…read moresince realized my experience wasn't unique, and I want other students to have a clearer picture before they invest their time and money. I came to this studio two years ago on a travel assignment and loved the area enough to stay. I was already partway through a certified teacher training back home but wasn't returning. When I met the owner, I shared my dream of starting a nonprofit teaching yoga to underserved children. She told me she supported the vision and that I could eventually use her space. I enrolled in her teacher training and began preparing to assist at a retreat in Mexico. In the weeks before we left, I noticed things that gave me pause. I watched her dismiss a student who volunteered to help at a booth, body-shame one student, mock another student's eating, and make a point of excluding people she didn't like. I also saw her heavily intoxicated at the studio's anniversary party. I told myself everyone has difficult seasons. The retreat changed my perspective. The price didn't match the accommodations. We raised concerns about the conditions, including maggots and barely any running water in my room, and were essentially told that this was to be expected "in the jungle." I've traveled to genuinely under-resourced places before. My concern wasn't rustic conditions. It was the gap between what we paid for and what was delivered. The moment that stayed with me most happened privately after we'd all parted ways for the evening. I had briefly stopped to speak with an elderly maintenance worker because I needed a lighter for a candle. She saw me, pulled me aside, and became visibly upset. She told me my behavior was embarrassing, that she wasn't sure she could trust me to lead retreats one day, and repeatedly called me "weird." I apologized and tried to leave the conversation, but it continued. I eventually asked her to stop because I felt I was being unfairly attacked. I returned to my room and cried, not because I believed the criticism was fair, but because I realized the person I had trusted with my dream wasn't who I thought she was. On another occasion, in front of other members, she referred to me as "an alien." Looking back at who she tended to single out, it often felt like confidence or simply being comfortable with yourself was treated as something to be corrected rather than encouraged. I lead a large healthcare team professionally. Being told I lacked the judgment to lead people was disorienting, and in retrospect I believe it reflected more about her than it did about me. I completed the program because I didn't want to risk losing the time and money I'd already invested, and I convinced myself it had simply been one bad night. Looking back, though, I'd already seen similar patterns directed toward other students. Since graduating, I've heard from multiple former students who described similar experiences. Favoritism toward some students, harsh treatment of others, and little accountability when concerns were raised. Some people quietly disappeared from the program, and I never asked why. I understand that much more clearly now. One of the hardest parts to reconcile is that I was one of the favorites until I wasn't. Being on the receiving end of encouragement made it difficult to recognize the unhealthy dynamics. It wasn't until my standing changed that I experienced the same criticism, exclusion, and dismissiveness that I had watched happen to others. Future students should also know that much of our course material appeared to be straight ChatGPT output, including errors. We were told corrected versions would come later, but we would have to pay extra because "paper and ink are expensive." That meant paying again for revised materials. A practical note for anyone considering the teacher training. I didn't discover until after graduating that the program is not Yoga Alliance certified, despite costing as much as, or more than, many certified programs. Altogether, I spent about $10,000 at Anahata. If you teach there afterward, you're paid roughly $25 a class while also paying your full membership. It's worth doing that math before committing. Because the certification isn't Yoga Alliance recognized, your opportunities to teach elsewhere may be more limited than you expect. I encourage prospective students to verify the program's certification status for themselves before enrolling. I fell out of love with yoga after this experience. I put my nonprofit on hold and eventually joined an existing one so I could continue serving the community in a different way. I never received an apology, and I no longer expect one. I'm writing this because people considering this studio deserve enough information to make an informed decision. In the end, this program taught me more about unhealthy group dynamics, boundaries, and my own naivety than it did about yoga.

I am deeply disappointed by how my membership with Anahata Yoga ended. I was a founding member and…read morehave supported this studio since the beginning. I brought friends and family, recommended the studio to others, and genuinely believed in the community and values being created. I want to acknowledge my part in what happened. I had a conversation where my frustration came through strongly, and my tone was not how I would have wanted to communicate. I have reflected on that and take responsibility for the way I expressed myself. However, I want to clarify that my frustration was not directed at Victoria or Anahata. I was upset because I felt the studio and its community were not being respected by Emerald Mallard allowing smoking near the studio. My reaction came from caring about a business and space that I had supported for years. After reflecting, I reached out, apologized for my tone, and my apology was accepted. I attended class the following day as planned and believed we had repaired the situation and were moving forward. Instead, shortly afterward, while I was out of town, I received an email ending my membership. I was shocked and hurt that, after what I believed was a resolved conversation, the decision was made without another discussion or an opportunity to understand what had changed. What was most painful was not the decision itself, but the lack of communication and the way it was handled. After years of showing up for this studio as a founding member, I expected a more compassionate and direct conversation. Anahata promotes values like mindfulness, compassion, and communication. Unfortunately, my experience during a difficult moment did not feel aligned with those values. I hope others have a positive experience, but I wanted to share my own experience of feeling dismissed and blindsided after years of support.

I normally struggle focusing on breath and movement and the cannabis really helped me zone in. I found it to be very therapeutic. It's BYOC and for the first maybe 15 or so minutes people consume their cannabis and we went in a circle sharing a little bit about our relationship with cannabis and yoga. The instructor was great, welcoming, and provided a soothing routine. She even served tea and vegan chocolate at the end and some people stayed behind to relax or mingle. There was maybe 10 people so it's pretty intimate which felt nice since a lot of other yoga studios get packed mat to mat. The first class was free which is always awesome, especially for a new experience. They have a class pack as well for a more economical option. I had a little trouble finding the place. It's through the squid row alley by the goodwill and looks like a residence. I was hesitant to knock or open the door because it looked dark but then once you're inside it's clearly a yoga studio. Btw - this review is of the Thursday night in person class. I'm looking forward to going back!
