I booked this rental through Rentalcars.com, a few months before the trip, and paid in full on July 11, 2016, almost a full month before the scheduled pick up of August 8th, 2016 at the Marco Polo Airport counter. The day before, I called Sicily by Car and confirmed my reservation. I was at the counter ten minutes before they opened. At 8 am, counter opened and I stood in front of the lady (Romina), who didn't bother to acknowledge my greeting (Buon giorno). Fine, probably having a bad morning. I remained standing there while waiting for her to acknowledge me, until I asked her if she's ready or if she wants me to come back a little later. She said it's OK.
Then I presented her with my copy of the reservation, she asked for passports and credit card, then photocopied them. She then told us that we're getting the 9-seater van but with manual transmission, when we reserved an automatic. Of course we declined, as we don't know how to drive an automatic. She said there's nothing she can do, as the company never confirmed our automatic vehicle, and that she's been in this business for 11 years and there is no guarantee that you will get the car you wanted. At this point, my husband and friend have gotten on the discussion. WE tried explaining to her that we reserved an automatic as we didn't know how to drive a manual transmission. She said she didn't care!!! We pointed out to her that we reserved an automatic, and she said that we reserved it with Rentalcars and not with them, so it's not her problem. She said she can give us 2 cars with automatic transmission and will have to pay 321 euros more as there is only one voucher from rentalcars. When I asked her what's going to happen to the excess money I paid for the van, she said she doesn't know and care as my agreement was with Rental cars.
At this point, the conversation has deteriorated badly, due to lack of empathy on her part. I started screaming at her that her customer service is so bad, she's so rude and asked her why her company is doing business with Rentalcars when it's obvious that they don;t want to honor the agreement. She said "lady it's business", in a condescending tone.
At this point, I left her counter and phoned Rentalcars.com, (about 20 minutes waiting on line before Anthia picked up, but it was OK as she was really helpful). She talked to Romina, but I have already decided that there's no way Sicily by CAr is getting a cent of my money. read more
