I recently went to Home Depot, looking for a granite top for a bathroom vanity. Since I wanted something that Home Depot doesn't normally stock, the salesman there told me he'd need to charge me a bundle for a special order, and he suggested I go to one of the granite yards off the Palmetto where they have lots of slabs and remnants and they could sell me exactly what I needed, cut it to the size I'd need and finish it, for much cheaper than he could do a special order at Home Depot.
I walked into this place, one of the staff was in the lobby and asked what I needed. He walked me out to the yard with the slabs in it and on the way he quoted a price with everything, including installation. It was very high compared to what I expected, but my guess is that, had I found a remnant stone I liked, I could have bargained with him.
Unfortunately after showing me a few granite slabs and their small stock of remnants, I couldn't find the color I wanted. The guy still thanked me for coming, and he was even kind enough to give me detailed directions to a few other granite yards in the area that he thought may be able to help me. I appreciated this, and it shows that customer service is still alive somewhere, as he didn't have to help me out like that, especially when he knew he wasn't getting any business from me that day. read more
