    Let's go!

Thrilling ride through the canyon! Shotover Jet had to be one of my favorite activities while in Queenstown! To put it this way, it is a roller coaster on waters! I expected it to be a fun, bumpy ride but what I didn't expect was the beautiful view of the canyon! The ride was 20 minutes but it definitely felt short since I was having that much fun. Our driver was super friendly and I loved how confident he was in giving us a ride of a lifetime. He does give a safety briefing that he drives very close to the rocks, waterfalls, and does a fast 360 turn so hang on and do not lend out of the boat. Sit back, hang tight, and enjoy the ride! Logistics - My girlfriends and I booked the ride online prior to arriving to Queenstown (you can also book in town at their counter). The company offers a complimentary ride to the canyon area which is about a ten minutes ride or so. We were given a locker to put away things that you don't want wet or carry with you. We then put on a life jacket and got on the boat. In my opinion, the best seats are the sides because you get the best thrill when the driver gets super close to rocks and waterfalls. You will get wet, accept it! :P

This is a thrilling attraction I would definitely recommend if you are visiting Queenstown, New Zealand. It is a fun way to get to enjoy the beauty of Shotover Canyon. This is literally an iconic NZ experience. The drivers are very experienced. They get really close to the canyon walls at high speeds and drift away last second. I sat in the front row on the edge and my adrenaline was sky rocketing, just being so close to the rocks. It rained extensively few days before, which flooded the Shotover Jet base and closed the attraction. Luckily, the water level receded, but was still higher than average. Apparently, the boats can operate over water as shallow as 10 cm. They provide a locker where you can place your belongings. They also give you a rain jacket and life vest to wear. You will get wet, especially when the drivers do 360-degree spins, but its super fun. As a precaution, if you do have pre-existing back or neck pain, just be careful. The ride gets pretty bumpy depending on the water level and I felt like mini "jolts" through my back and neck at some points.

Store front is hidden from main road and can be easily passed.

Exciting way to get your adrenaline running in the morning by taking a ride on the Shotover Jet along the narrow Shotover River! Views were breathtaking and it was amazing how skilled the drivers are! Watching the video at the end and seeing our reactions was priceless along with the facts they provide in the video such as showing how wide and deep different parts that we passed were. It was a blast and highly recommend it if in the Queenstown, NZ, area!

Another one of my most memorable highlights of my trip in New Zealand. You'll get sprayed from the 360 twirls that you do in the water, but it's so much fun. I say sign up in advance and DO IT!!!! You don't get to soar down a river channel at this speed everyday, unless you're one of these pilots.

The scenery is beautiful, the ride is thrilling and the whole process from shuttle to gear up to ride, runs like a well-oiled machine. The ride itself is not very long and it goes over some of the same parts of the river multiple times. The seats are curved and comfortable so you stay in place when the jet boat does a 360 degree turn - definitely a benefit.

It was wet and it was cold. It was the last run of the day. It was INCREDIBLE. I was persuaded to do this by my wife having been somewhat reluctant to do it. Her persuasion plus recommendations from our hotel owners led us here for the last run of the wet and cold early spring day. Simply put, it really was exhilarating. Beats any white knuckle ride I've tried before. Yes, we got wet but oh how we laughed at the 25 min adrenalin rush. Don't miss this.

Great fun. Awesome skilled driver beautiful views. No complaints booked through a 3rd party but check in was at their main office bus ride to the river and back. Awesome!

This shot was taken before my own ride in the jetboat, please dont take any cameras thats not waterproof onboard.

The TSS Earnslaw is a 120+ year old coal steamship that is maintained almost exactly to how it was at that time. It's quite a large vessel at 48 meters long with two levels. You can access almost the entire ship. There's a top view the engine room to see the coals being shoveled into the furnace while also feeling the heat! There's a cafe where you can purchase food, coffee, and drinks with a good amount of tables to sit, a small museum/photo gallery of its history, and just where ever you are on the ship, you will always have amazing views of the pristine Lake Wakatipu and the mountain range. It can be windy, and the stairs can be steep and slippery, so be careful. You can purchase tickets on their website, or at the RealNZ Visitor Centre ticket counter located at the wharf along Beach Street. There are other activities you can add on with your cruise, such as the Walter Peak Farm Tour (with afternoon tea), a Gourmet BBQ Dinner at Walter Peak's Homestead Restaurant, or an Eco Experience where you tour the farm's gardens and grounds. In other words, the TSS Earnslaw's destination is Walter Peak High Country Farms, which you can partake in activities, or walk around yourself and catch the next ride. Overall, this was a very fun and enjoyable experience, and a must do while visiting Queenstown. The whole cruise was 90 minutes. It was a smooth ride, and the food and coffee is more than acceptable. The staff were friendly.

BUT... my husband kept telling me that if his 60+ year old grandma could do it way back when... what am I supposed to be afraid of? This operation is very safe. They get you into a two piece wet suit, water shoes, a helmet and a lifevest on. Really, you're SUPER safe. Once you're in your gear, they take you on a drive through the canyon (about 45 minutes) and then set you up for a 1.5-2 hour rafting experience through Shotover Canyon! Our guide, Adam, was great. We didn't flip (thankfully, since I was terrified) and I had an overall great time. I did slightly roll on my ankle but that's more on my form than anything else. After 2 days, I'm on a quick road to recovery. Thanks for the first experience! I'll be doing this more in the future!

She practiced with us over and over how to navigate the boat however I think we were all aware that she was doing the majority of the work. The whole set up was fine....board a bus from Queenstown. Get to a shop where you get your wetsuit, helmet, booties, and vest. This is the area where you just shake your head listening to many of these asshats berate their clients in their effort to be witty. Changing rooms with one locker for your valuables. Then another bus ride to the start of the river where you get an extensive safety talk...much appreciated. Hop in and you're off for 2 hours. Afterwards, there is a hot shower room before bussing it back to the city. Again...Grace the guide....made it great!

We arranged a roundtrip helicopter flight to Milford Sound with a two hour cruise ($945.00 NZ) in early January 2017. There high reviews, perfect safety record, and updated helicopter fleet were some of the main reasons we decided to go with them. Our initial flight was canceled, however, Glacier Southern was able to have us rebooked for the following afternoon flight with the caveat that it was unlikely we would do a glacier landing, but instead do some sort of alpine landing. Upon checking in, we were introduced to our "special" pilot, Alfie Speight, who was the filming pilot for several Hollywood movies - The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings. Flight over the mountains from Queenstown was beautiful, and the views over Lake Wakatipu and Glenorchy were amazing. Alfie pointed out various sights/trails along the way, and was more than happy to answer any questions regarding the helicopter, terrain, landmarks, or films he had been involved in. The highlight of the flight was landing on a glacier, where we spent 15-20 minutes enjoying the views and snow. We continued our journey towards Milford Sound with an amazing approach to the airfield with what seemed like just a few feet over the tree tops. We spent the next two hours on a two hour cruise that heads out to the Tasman Sea. Views were amazing on the cruise. Do bring a jacket as it was a little chilly going out with the wind coming towards us. The return had us stopping to see New Zealand Fur Seals and a large waterfall. After the cruise we all hopped back into the helicopter for the return journey to Queenstown. The helicopter trip to Milford Sound with Alfie and Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters is not to be missed. These guys were truly professional the entire way!
