One of the best things about this business is the horses. The majority of the are ex-racing horses and other rescues which would otherwise be put down, so you are supporting the saving of these magnificent animals. All of the horses were very well behaved and gorgeous. A lot of the have been used in various movies filmed in the area as well. There are a lot of film locations for Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia on the trails they use. This isn't a typical "nose to butt" horse ride either. You get to trot or run your horse and there is a trail but you aren't babysat as long as you are staying with the group and act responsibly. There are various trail rides depending on your ability as well. We ended up doing the River Wild option and it was fantastic. I would do it again and again. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Highly recommend!

Do not be late (if you are being picked up from downtown Queenstown) as they do not wait more than 10 mins, which is fair! As a first time rider, I was a little nervous but everyone who worked there was very encouraging. Before I knew it, I was exploring the beautiful area on a horse. We paid a little more ($30) for a private session and it was worth every penny ! We ride at our own pace, stopped to take pictures whenever we wanted to , and with a personal guide, we could ask heaps of questions. Our tour guide was a young lady on her vacation-work visa here in NZ but she was very knowledgeable about horses and explained a lot about the area. This is no adrenaline rush activity like 90% of activities offered by Queenstown but this is a good fun for all age groups. Highly recommended!

We had a free day in Wanaka on our vacation to New Zealand, and saw a flier for the Cardrona Horse…read moreRiding Tours. We called and Sarah was able to book us for the very next day, even though it was a holiday. The horses were beautiful and in fantastic health - you can tell they are well loved! And our guide, Kelly, was phenomenal. She is clearly an expert with her horses, and knows their different personalities so she can match you with the right horse. After a short tutorial on horse riding, she took us through the mountains/steams/sheep, giving us some interesting regional and historical information along the way. We were able to cantor with the horses as well (or not, if you aren't comfortable - she will tailor the experience to your riding abilities). And, an added bonus, we stopped at the historic Cardrona hotel for a drink (included) 2 hours into a 3 hours ride (a welcome break!). Afterwards, we were able to help feed the horses their dinner, and spend time petting them and feeding them apples. Kelly even took pictures of us along the way, and sent them to us after the ride (for free!!), which allowed us to sit back and enjoy the experience without trying to take pictures and balance a camera with horse reins. I highly recommend this activity - it was the highlight of our trip!

You can choose from the guided farm tour with afternoon tea, garden tour, gourmet BBQ dinner, and other activities based on the season. We chose the guided farm tour with afternoon tea. After disembarking the ship, a guide will direct you where to go depending on what you booked. Our first stop was the afternoon tea, and wow, I suggest you don't fill up on the ship because there was a very nice variety of scones, sandwiches, baked items, coffee, tea, and etc. Definitely enough for a meal! Everything was good. Coffee was good! After the meal, you had some time to walk around until the tour starts. The tour was fantastic. Our guide was really informative and upbeat. We had opportunities to meet and feed many farm animals--cattle, sheep, alpacas, goats, and pigs. But not too sure about putting your entire hand into the cattle's mouth to feed it. Wish I was a kid, so I'd find it fun and interesting rather than weird and disgusting lol. The farm is maintained quite well. Even the animals seemed cleaner than what I've experienced. Next was the Sheep Show where you got to see farm dogs herd sheep, and a live demonstration of sheep sheering. Fresh wool anyone? Yes, you can take it with you if you want. The whole tour was roughly 3.5 hours, and you'll have time to visit the gift shop before the ship arrives. You'll hear the horn when it's time to board. Overall, this was an interesting experience, and definitely recommended and a fun addition your TSS Earnslaw cruise. The staff is really friendly and upbeat. Where else can you stick your hand into the mouth of a cattle, and take home super fresh off the sheep wool?

We received a lot of education around the agriculture on the farm, herding, sheep, and the meat! The buffet was fantastic! It offered a lot of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options! If you love meat, like I do, you'll absolutely love this place. They had so much seafood and meat you could ever imagine. I really enjoyed learning about how the dogs heard the sheep on the farm. It's truly a unique business and I would 10 out of 10 recommend anybody go to the farm!
