    Headed to the demos

We really enjoyed our cruise and dinner at Walter Peak. It was very hot inside the boat on the ride to the farm, and we were lucky to grab a seat outside. The farm is beautiful, with the house sitting on the edge of the lake and the mountains surrounding it. We got an outdoor table for dinner so we could enjoy the view. I appreciated the fact that they staggered the access to the buffet so it did not get too crowded. The food was very good - large variety, freshly made, plenty of it. After dinner we headed to another area to watch sheep shearing and the herding demos. My husband was surprised at how much he liked that part of the evening. For the trip back we enjoyed a seat inside where it was warm. Quite a few people participated in the sing along with the piano player - song books supplied. It was a very enjoyable, relaxing evening. Tips: If it's sunny, make your way outside as soon as you get on the boat. It gets very hot inside with the coal fires burning. Also, people are seated as they walk up to the farm house so if you want an outside spot, keep that in mind.

Well I didn't have any real expectations to start booked it on a whim! But wow so amazing the boat that takes you over is so unique over 100 years old + bar onboard Lots of unique animals that I didn't expect to see on the tour you also get a chance to feed!! Afternoon tea was simply delicious so fresh and good selection of scones and tea cakes Great afternoon would highly recommend!

As many of the previous entries indicated , rode the steamship up the lake at Queenstown to Walter Peak Farm... The ship was definitely packed and a little uncomfortable... we all rolled off the ship like a mixed up landing party and the crowd control at the food buffet is getting better with folks directing the groups to the right dining areas. The buffet seemed to be all over the place so I ended up eating it all out of order.. salad bar was good and the BBQ meats were quite tasty, but they seemed to excel at the desserts... all in all, pretty good for a buffet... The sheep shearing demonstration after dinner seemed a little weird truthfully but the sheep dog demonstration was wonderful, as was the ride in the dark on the steamship back to Queenstown...

I loved the TSS Earnslaw Steamboat (1921 vintage coal fire steam ship) trip to Walter Peak Farm. Drinks available on onboard and be sure to head up to the piano guy on the trip home to join in singing the camp songs (words provided). It was a fun way to end the evening. Once we arrived at Walter Peak High Country Farm, we had a beautiful dinner in the main house. The buffet was amazing and delicious - several different types of meats available, large salad bar and vegetable buffet and not to be missed out you have to check out the dessert table - Yummy! This Farm/Ranch/Estate is beautiful and I can see why it is a popular place for wedding and other celebrations. We were invited outside after dinner to stroll along the rose and flower garden on the way to meet Lucy, the rescue sheep dog Lucy was shy in the beginning, but couldn't wait to do what she loves most - gather up those sheep on the hill! She did a great job bringing them down and since she was still in training she needed a little help from a more experience sheep dog to finish the task and get the 5 sheep into the corral. Great work Lucy! We then went into the barn to watch a demonstration of sheep sheering - interesting and informative and rounded out our visit. Again, don't hesitate to join in on the sing-a-long by the piano on the steamboat trip home - Fun time for everyone!

But I'm glad I did it, Doubtful Sound is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, much more so than the overhyped nearby Milford Sound, and even more incredible than the fjords of Norway and Alaska. New Zealand's towering Fjords are gorgeous green with charming waterfalls throughout. Words can't describe, pictures barely capture it, you have to be there to enjoy all its natural glory. Doubtful Sound is very isolated too, we only saw one other boat out there on the three hour tour, which let's you quietly take in on the beauty at a leisurely relaxing pace. One detraction: Skip the $20 option picnic lunch...it was the most disgusting wrap I had even eaten! Bring your own food, or buy something else to eat on the ship. Though it required quite a bit of money, it required zero physical effort to enjoy this isolated and pristine part of the planet, and it was all worth it. And when will I ever make it all the way down here again?

The TSS Earnslaw is a 120+ year old coal steamship that is maintained almost exactly to how it was at that time. It's quite a large vessel at 48 meters long with two levels. You can access almost the entire ship. There's a top view the engine room to see the coals being shoveled into the furnace while also feeling the heat! There's a cafe where you can purchase food, coffee, and drinks with a good amount of tables to sit, a small museum/photo gallery of its history, and just where ever you are on the ship, you will always have amazing views of the pristine Lake Wakatipu and the mountain range. It can be windy, and the stairs can be steep and slippery, so be careful. You can purchase tickets on their website, or at the RealNZ Visitor Centre ticket counter located at the wharf along Beach Street. There are other activities you can add on with your cruise, such as the Walter Peak Farm Tour (with afternoon tea), a Gourmet BBQ Dinner at Walter Peak's Homestead Restaurant, or an Eco Experience where you tour the farm's gardens and grounds. In other words, the TSS Earnslaw's destination is Walter Peak High Country Farms, which you can partake in activities, or walk around yourself and catch the next ride. Overall, this was a very fun and enjoyable experience, and a must do while visiting Queenstown. The whole cruise was 90 minutes. It was a smooth ride, and the food and coffee is more than acceptable. The staff were friendly.

When we arrived, we simply showed the operator our email confirmation number, received a blue boarding card, and were directed to Terminal 3. Boarding was smooth and organized, and with the capacity capped at 75 passengers, we were among the first to get on. We chose to sit in the back on the outside. The cruise itself was roughly an hour 45 minutes and took us through the fjord. Because it had rained the day before, many of the waterfalls were flowing beautifully. We spotted a few seals sleeping on the rocks and even saw a couple of penguins. When the boat pulled up close to one of the larger waterfalls, we got soaked but it was all part of the fun. The weather was sunny and in the mid-50s Fahrenheit, which made for a perfect experience, especially compared to the rainy conditions earlier in the week. Complimentary tea, coffee, and cookies were available on the first floor, and the boat also had a restroom onboard. The staff were warm, welcoming, and even helped take photos for passengers. Overall, it was a smooth, scenic, and memorable cruise!

After experiencing it's wonder, I think this is something that should be on everyone's bucket list. Personally, I don't believe that the travel time to experience places should play that much of a role and I 100% feel that Milford Sound is worth it. Our time was just magical here. Out of all the Milford Sound tours, we chose Cruise Milford based on a review we saw saying that their cruises were smaller at meant you got more access to the scenery, etc. And that was true when you saw our Cruise compared to others. I received a call/text the day before from the company to make sure we were set, Because of flooding recently, food would not be available at Milford Sound and we were offered a package to add lunch. They were also very friendly at fielding our questions on food, snacks, bathroom breaks, etc (see below). Thank goodness, T-Mobile offers relatively cheap deals for international phone service. The morning of, our ride never showed. So, I called the lady that we spoke to the night before and by the time she called me back, she already had a Taxi ready to pick us up and bring us to the final bus stop (there was a mixup in the system). We booked our trip with transportation from our hotel in Queenstown. It is a 2-hour drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound, so it was honestly a great plan the day after getting in from our long flight as we slept most of the bus ride. From Queenstown there is a short stop to grab breakfast, coffee and use the bathroom and their grab/go pastries were DELICIOUS my husband and I went back for seconds before we got back on the bus. We stopped at the same stop on the way home and there wasn't much food left by the end of the day and hardly enough time to go to the other restaurants, so I HIGHLY recommend bringing snacks. There is a bathroom on the bus, but as I wrote above, ours was out of order halfway through the trip
