Einstein is NOT to be confused with Albert Einstein, they are different things. That was made abundantly clear in the two years I went to school here. We covered that Einstein was a family name and Albert Einstein was not the only Einstein rather one of many. A subtle/not-so-subtle way of highlighting the importance of family through the curriculum. I still think it is a kind origins to name a school after a family. So many things were/are named after individuals that it was nice to be attending a school that was founded and centered on the importance of family by being named after a family. I felt that way when I attended here (2004-2006) as well. This school is for 7th and 8th grades. I attended for the whole grade for both 7th and 8th grades (I was 12 years old in 7th grade and 13 years old in 8th grade). We used the trimester system while I was there. The mascot is the Tiger. Combined with Einstein that makes the elongated version the Einstein Tigers. A principal was Mr. Dunbar both years I attended Einstein Middle School. The physical education classes here changed my life. In order to prepare for our physical fitness assessments (the Beep test and the Fun Run) I started running and lost 40 pounds over the course of approximately two trimesters. That snowballed in to a more active lifestyles on a day-to-day basis outside the sport season (I swam, played soccer, and tennis from a young age). As a result I developed self confidence and honed my self-motivation and self-determination skills. Which are useful life skills to have and continue to strengthen to this day. Health classes were also good, not as squeamish as those who took them before those in my grade made them out to be. Foreign languages were not required for middle school, however three years of a foreign language were needed for high school. If you took two years in middle school they would count towards your high school requirement and you would only need to take one more year in high school. I took Spanish for two years and was fortunate to have the same amazing teacher both years. I enjoyed the selection of electives, some of the ones I took included Cartooning, Sculpture I, Sculpture II, Web Design (through which I learned to code in HTML), and Home Economics (sewing and cooking/baking). I also was a Teacher T.A. for a physical education class and Home Economics. The skills I developed in these electives I have continued to develop over the years and integrated into both my life and career. One of the activities I partook in was yearbook. We took great pride in designing and making the yearbooks and the school had a day dedicated to year-book signing each year. Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and English I had both grades. I liked the subjects covered and diversity of approaches to teaching used. Seventh grade was the first time I bought a mathematics textbook to keep. We also had a period called Enrichment where we learned about various social issues and how to combat problems such as cyberbullying. Some of the tips and guidance provided in regards to cyberbullying I continue to use to this day. We covered other topics as well that were aimed at further enriching our education. My first and only school food fight happened here during one of the school lunch periods. Most of us made a dash for the exit when we realized what was happening (myself included). Someone threw yogurt and some of it got on my bag before I got out. It was a bit of a ruckus and school bell schedules and operations changed as a result of this event. At least that is how we interpreted it at the time and the next couple years that followed. Teaching here was overall amazing. Individually and collectively the teachers (and administrators) did an excellent job. In my two years I only one negative experience from my perspective in regards to schooling. I had a teacher lose one of my assignments, give me an F, find the assignment and not change the grade even though he was the one to lose it... What a douchebag. I suppose the silver lining is that this happened in middle school and not high school where grades play a role in determining where one goes to college. Still this experience did not detract from the excellence of the other teachers for me, and on the whole I have fond memories of this school. Go Einstein Tigers!!!

Two days after she started Einstein and ever since she's pretty much hated school. It's definitely the teachers here that are the problem. I'd avoid sending your kids here if you can manage making that happen. It will make your kids not want to learn... I can't wait until she gets into Shoreline High. Heard nothing but great things, and I'm trying hard to keep her inspired until then. Just so realize what you'll have to deal with and not to paint a broad stroke, but the women staff and teachers here are the wicked type in every experience we've had. I'm not sure why, but this school is filled with them. Other nearby schools we've been to in Shoreline are the polar opposite.

The current principle is supportive and engaging, and thankfully makes up for the rudeness of the front-office staff. It's really sad because these women are a poor representation, and a questionable first impression for such a great school. If you report the front-office staff for any reason, the administration will tell you what you like to hear, and then will do absolutely nothing. And they will give you a reason to complain. You'll want to steer clear of the office assistant. She is unabashedly confrontational. As an example, she frequently creates scenes in their packed front office. One day in particular I will share, is a day where as usual, I sat in the chair with my daughter as she read a book, awaiting my son to come from his class to the office. My son was being picked up early that day, and had been for about a week. On a random day for no apparent reason, she accused me of loitering, and asked me to leave, embarrassing me in front of several other parents. Another parent had observed the confrontation, and while we stood outside the office, to me stated that she also had a confrontation with this woman, and said that she was "very rude." She keeps a snarky tone on the phone because no one has ever discipled her for her behavior, and she knows no one ever will. I've reached out to several staff members, the principle, and the district office about her. There is another one in the front office at the main desk who likes to cut people off when they're talking, rolls her eyes, and makes passive-aggressive comments. My husband told me one day she was talking behind my back to him saying she liked to talk with him better than me. There's an older woman I frequently see in the front office who was once abusively shrieking at my son one day as he walked, and I reported her as well. I was very concerned about the tone of her voice towards the children, and thought she must be shouting at other students in the same way as well. The first year my son started school there, the school "nurse" was spamming me with multiple letters to my home address, in my son's backpack, and even stalked me in the hallway, even though I had asked her to stop. She used profanity once in the hall towards me after I publicly reprimanded her for following me around the school with a piece of paper, and waiting for me to come out of a classroom to hand it to me. I filed a complaint about her and accused her of stalking me. It was completely outrageous. Never in my life had I imagined someone working in a public school would actually do this to someone. I think it's important that I share these experiences. Because their behaviors go undisciplined, it's difficult for any parent to file a complaint and not be brushed aside. Hopefully when people start speaking up about this problem, someone will see that these people promote a terrible image for this great school. Other than that, keep up the good work.

We made a lot of great parent friendships as well. Ms. Judith, Kathleen, and Debra in PS, PK, and 1st grade were absolutely awesome and did an amazing job with our boys. The school also has great financial resources with very generous families supporting continued investment in the physical plant and new programs. One thing we wished were different might have been the level of competition between the kids to be first or best at everything and the impact that started to have on our oldest (who was beginning to only want to pursue things where he could be #1). I don't think the school encourages that (on the contrary, I think they encourage all the kids to always try) but it could be the natural dynamic of any school that only has gifted children. Some of our friends' kids also encountered challenges around bullying; it wasn't rampant though and could have been the reality of how kids interact at that age. On a related note, our biggest advice is to be aware of the sibling admissions policy. Our youngest was admitted to and attended Evergreen PS or PK and was doing great according to all the teacher evaluations. However, after two tests, his top IQ score was in the 90th percentile and as such was short of the 95th percentile cutoff. We were then told he could not continue to Kindergarten (even though the PK teacher strongly recommended he advance to Kindergarten). It made for a really stressful and emotional year for us and while we respect the School's right to set these kinds of policies, it seemed at odds with the values of community, inclusion, and social and emotional intelligence -- especially since the testing data was very inconsistent and in the gray area.

Brighton School is wonderful and we love it!!!!!…read more I've had my kids at Brighton for at least eleven years? I've lose count. My son attended Brighton from first through eighth grade and my daughter started in preschool and is now in sixth grade. My kids are completely different and they have both absolutely thrived at Brighton. Brighton does an awesome job of providing an excellent well-rounded education for many different types of learners and kids. Brighton offers an excellent academic program, but also offers an amazing drama program with Mr. DC, some great sports programs, after school extracurriculars, yearly overnight field trips that get longer with each grade level and culminate in a 10 day East Coast trip for the 8th graders, etc. The greatest asset to Brighton is its staff. Brighton attracts some truly talented, caring and highly invested staff and teachers. There are teachers at Brighton who have truly changed the course of my childrens' lives. Ms. (formerly Gabriel) Savage is my daughter's idol. Ms. Savage is the perfect role model for my child, as she is strong, confident, smart, kind and encouraging. My daughter is a gymnast and she has talked to my daughter about mental blocks. She is a great teacher but she clearly cares about her students in a way that goes beyond what her job requires. Her assistant Ms. Carrie is also so caring, patient and kind. Ms. Durbin is another teacher that made a real difference in my daughter's life. Ms. Durbin was like a second mother to my daughter, or my daughter's stand-in mother at school. My daughter has always had a ton of anxiety about overnight field trips, but knowing that Ms. Durbin would be on the field trip always made her feel better. Ms. Durbin knew when to be serious and get the class under control but could also be so silly and have fun with the class. Mr. DiLorenzo is another incredible asset to the Brighton community. Mr. D. was my child's third grade teacher, and he was an incredibly gifted educator then, and now he is the head of the middle school. Mr. D. can be so fun and silly with the kids, but he also knows when to be serious and address serious issues. My son had an awesome middle school experience at Brighton and during his years there built up a community of friends who carried over into the same high school. Ms. Livingston has been serving the Brighton middle school for years in various capacities and she is AMAZING!!!! She is currently teaching math and she is an awesome math teacher, but she also handles a lot of the administrative stuff for the middle school. She's very friendly, great with the kids, great with the parents, and easy to get along with. Ms. Bodnar, according to my 17 year old son, is "the GOAT" (greatest of all time). Ms. Bodnar teachers study skills and math (I think) but she connects with the kids in a way that few others do. My son emphatically thinks that she is the best teacher at Brighton. Ms. Thaler is also a great language arts teacher. She definitely knows what she is doing and I appreciate that she actually challenges the kids. This is Ms. Parks Lobbs' first year as Head of School, but she has been involved with other parts of the school for years and she appears to be 100% in charge of what is happening and in control of things. As a very long-time parent of Brighton who has observed three separate Heads of School, I think Ms. Parks Lobb is doing a great job. There are a lot of other amazing staff members at Brighton who I am going to forget to mention. We love Coach Matt, who is the kindest, funniest guy to have around. He always greets my daughter in the morning with the biggest smile and it makes me feel so good about dropping her off. He also love Coach Brandon, who has been there for years and is super well loved by all the kids. He made the summer camp a blast for my daughter. We really loved Ms. Becca, who is a former aide who is no longer there. We wish the school brought her back. My son had Ms. Schippers for both hers and his first year at Brighton (first grade) and she made him feel super welcome and safe. I don't remember the full names of my daughter's pre-K teacher and aide (the aide was Sarah) but they were both so amazing! Oh yeah, the parents, kids and community at Brighton are also awesome. Both my kids have made amazing friends and we have done all the playdates, the sleepovers, the skate nights (thanks, PTO!), all of it. My son has friends he literally made in FIRST GRADE and now are JUNIORS in high school and they are part of the same friend group and in some of the same advanced classes. My daughter and her best friends met years ago, some as far back as preschool. I've known those parents just as long. The parents are great and the PTO is currently thriving. I've never been involved in the PTO, but I am very, very grateful for the amazing parents who run it and all that they do. Best money we ever spent!

With 3 kids who have spanned the range if preschool, elementary, and middle school, I can say the middle school especially has exceeded expectations. Initially, I was nervous because of its smaller size, but it's been fabulous, the teachers embrace the middle school years while preparing students for real-world situations. We've had the honor of having both Ms. Shippers and Ms. Savage twice. Ms. Shippers has years of experience yet brings fresh enthusiasm every day, and Ms. Savage's connection with the kids is remarkable. Brighton truly offers a nurturing, dynamic environment we're so grateful for!

Thank you for instilling learning that taught my son, and daughter, to be outstanding individuals who are making a difference in their communities. Then Covid happened and they were flooded with kids. Classes are too big. If you have a child with any kind of learning disability or anything this is not a good school at all. They barely make accommodations and don't have IEP and 504 programs to help. One year my child's teacher yelled at the class all the time. Kids with parents on campus get special treatment, and this school is very inconsistent with discipline. There are also drugs on campus.

This is a school where the faculty and staff seconds as a family, which may be awkward for those of us who are public school students beginning the private school track in high school. When I graduated there were only a handful of AP classes. From what I can tell, the course catalog hasn't really expanded much [read: at all] during that time. Blanchet is well known for its drama department, and I enjoyed my time participating in extracurriculars -- particularly choir and the Japanese club. Blanchet has four languages available, which is on par with public schools in the area -- German, Spanish, French and Japanese. Watanabe-sensei, the Japanese instructor, is amazing and makes language learning fun. Going from Blanchet to the UW was not a difficult transition. Although when I was in high school I wasn't particularly fond, I am glad that I had the experience of attending Blanchet and realize just how lucky I was to have such a nurturing teaching environment. God this sounds so cheesy! But it's true. Sure, like every school there are lots of improvements to be made -- but it could be worse. After all, it could be Prep ;)

Typically when you live next to a school sure there are some annoying things but you get the benefits of community spaces and groups. Not with this private religious school, all you get is knowing a catholic person somewhere is rich and no you can't use their field or gym. I want to move out of the neighborhood I've loved for 10 years because of this school. The staff I've contacted about this are incredibly rude. The students I have seen doing some incredibly questionable projects over the years. All in all, Blanchet makes this Seattle neighborhood absolute garbage.
