One star because zero isn't an option, this is the reason I hate living in this neighborhood. Not only do the parents of kids attending this school suck at driving and my kid can't walk to their school anymore because they've almost been hit over 10 times by students and parents alike but the students are terrible drivers and incredibly disrespectful of the community around them. Typically when you live next to a school sure there are some annoying things but you get the benefits of community spaces and groups. Not with this private religious school, all you get is knowing a catholic person somewhere is rich and no you can't use their field or gym. I want to move out of the neighborhood I've loved for 10 years because of this school. The staff I've contacted about this are incredibly rude. The students I have seen doing some incredibly questionable projects over the years. All in all, Blanchet makes this Seattle neighborhood absolute garbage. read more

I have to agree with previous reviews that the staff of this school features some serious duds. While many of the teachers are great, some of them lack the motivation to not be complete doofuses, one teacher in particular comes to mind who is seriously lacking in intelligence, and overall personality. read more

Bishop Blanchet High School - Middle Schools & High Schools Near Me - Seattle, Washington

I'm a recent grad [2005] and there have been a lot of structural improvements since I left. Really, though, the building itself is inconsequential when compared to the amazing teachers there. Sure, there are duds in the staff, as there are in other schools, but when I visited a couple weeks ago, many teachers who I never even had recognized me and greeted me with hugs and congratulations on my impending graduation... and I wasn't exactly the type to stand out for any reason. This is a school where the faculty and staff seconds as a family, which may be awkward for those of us who are public school students beginning the private school track in high school. When I graduated there were only a handful of AP classes. From what I can tell, the course catalog hasn't really expanded much [read: at all] during that time. Blanchet is well known for its drama department, and I enjoyed my time participating in extracurriculars -- particularly choir and the Japanese club. Blanchet has four languages available, which is on par with public schools in the area -- German, Spanish, French and Japanese. Watanabe-sensei, the Japanese instructor, is amazing and makes language learning fun. Going from Blanchet to the UW was not a difficult transition. Although when I was in high school I wasn't particularly fond, I am glad that I had the experience of attending Blanchet and realize just how lucky I was to have such a nurturing teaching environment. God this sounds so cheesy! But it's true. Sure, like every school there are lots of improvements to be made -- but it could be worse. After all, it could be Prep ;) read more

We weren't sure what to expect in a high school, but I can tell you that Bishop Blanchet has exceeded anything that we imagined. We currently have one student at BBHS and another will be there soon. Our experience spans two public elementary schools and two private middle schools so we know a thing or two about school choices in Seattle. My son is challenged in his classes, yet not overwhelmed. He has the opportunity to play sports, or could choose one of many performing arts or clubs for extracurricular activities. Blanchet offers a sense of place and a great balance for teenagers in this crazy world and is preparing them not only for college, but for life. Go Braves! read more

We had a very bad experience at this school. My husband was alumni yet my son was treated with such disrespect from the Athletic Department. Make sure you know the right people if you want your athletic child to get a fair chance. The old saying it's not WHAT ya know but WHO ya know applies to this school. Big thumbs down. read more

Although the majority of teachers are amazing, the few teachers and administrators who are terrible are tragically bad. Dickens couldn't have written more maladjusted, condescending, supercilious individuals. Mind you I'm talking about a very few, but those few are powerful enough to traumatize timid or impressionable students. We have referred to it as "The Gulag" for the frosty temperature of the building and (some) staff. In the four years my children were "incarcerated" there, they had a total of five different principals. However, much praise is due to some truly stellar faculty members, including Mo Mershon, Father Doug (retired), Mr. Monica, Mr. Herber, Mr. Finnegan and Mrs. Boyd. read more

My son is in his first year at Bishop Blanchet and we couldn't be happier. We appreciate the intensity of the academics, the breadth of the activities, and the strong athletic program. The teachers are kind and set high expectations and the students are serious about their work and supportive of one another. My son could have gone to any prep school in Seattle and we are really happy he chose Bishop Blanchet. read more

I am a parent of 2 BBHS students. Both are very Hugh achieving students who are thriving at Blanchet. My kids love the challlengjng classes and supportive environment. Both my girls have taken multiple honors & AP classes, which they've loved. Great school! read more

Blanchet needs to up their game in their athletic program. The former athletic director is gone. Perhaps start with hiring solid coaches at all levels who understand youth sports today. Good coaches will attract students to the school. It does not matter if they win. They just need to run a solid program that is geared to athletes who want to play the sport at a high level. Kids specialize today in sports, and they are looking for programs that are run like their club teams. Again, it is not about the wins or loses. It is about intensity, high player expectations, and skill building. read more

Seeing these disappointing Yelp reviews is sad. We have had a wonderful experience over the past two years. The sports programs, the academics, the 4 amazing counselors, all the great inclusive clubs- truly something for everyone. We have a daughter but love attending football games at our great field! Our daughter is of mixed ethnicity and has friends of all ethnicities and has had no problem meeting friends. Other than a regular teenager experience maneuvering being a high school student as well as maneuvering new high school friends/crowds and Deciding who your 'people' are everything has been great. Look at the bigger picture and use all the amazing resources at the school and any issues you may have can be tackled. Literally 'all' staff is nice , respectful of your unique situation and wants to help! Also make sure you push your child to be involved - For instance the 'Brave Plunge'( overnight kids delving into understanding homelessness- best 35.00 I ever spent!!) wonderful and eye opening experience. Give the school a good deep look if you are planning on checking out schools - and don't always listen to the negativity... read more

Overall this school is definitely not worth the money. The teachers and administration do not communicate with parents, especially when a student is having any stuggles at all. They don't step in to stop bullying, they don't inform parents when a child is failing a class, and then when you complain, they act like they don't care at all. I am hoping public school will be better than this pretentious school. read more

If I could give this school a negative score, I absolutely would. I agree with some previous reviewers that this place is cancerous. It is so incestuous, the more equal animals get it all, not the stellar students. The school is more concerned about jocks than 4.0 students. You have to know and kiss up to the right people. I tried to bring up a couple of concerns in my student's freshman year, and met with mediocrity and blunt incompetence in addition to staunch decisiveness to change absolutely nothing at this school, that is definitely losing ground to other schools, even public. There are some outstanding teachers still there, totally dedicated to teaching and their students' success, and living and breathing their respective subjects. My student was extremely lucky to have many of them. But there are also teachers who clearly do not care about student success, and rule their classrooms by intimidation and tests that have materials never taught in the class. There some that clearly tell students that they do not care to the point that "if there is more work for you, there is more work for me", exactly the opposite of what Blanchet sells you at their numerous parent selling meetings. I was ignored by the Vice Principal for Academics for four months, and then she lied that the plan was different than we discussed. My request for my student to take Geography was denied at multiple levels. The last straw was when I appealed to the newly hired Principal, and he refused to act any differently than the rest of the administration. I really hoped for change, but I should have not been surprised - he is Blanchet Alumnae himself, which means the school will continue on its path of deterioration. Any business that does not change with times, eventually fails. And that is what BBHS administration is not getting. No Ivy Leagues come to BBHS to recruit anymore, most of the seniors go to UW (a pretty low bar in my opinion for the so-called college prep school). Our adventures ended EXTREMELY badly at Blanchet - they disenrolled my 4.0 student without my permission, and kept the money (I am a single mother about to be laid off after 20 years with a major corporation). These alleged Christians took money out of my two kids' mouths. Be Blanchet be damned for their unchristian behavior! read more
