The last two years have been incredibly disappointing. Since Mr. Lane Beasley has taken over as head of schools, the turnover of critical staff at this school has been frightening. My current understanding is that the school is even having to hire entirely new departments next year because of staff departures/transitions. I've watched some of the loveliest people be forced out this school to make way for someone who used to be a MS counselor at the school to become the full school (K-8) principal. At the end of 2025, without any warning, the middle school principal was let go our 3-5 principal took his place. The narrative we were told was that He left by his choice after learning he wouldn't be returning the next year. After a personal discussion with him, I am sickened that the narrative we were told in no way aligns with what happened, as he was told to clean out and leave with just a few months of the school year remaining. Then this last year, a beloved teacher had been promoted to our school's K-2 principal. Apparently, rather than providing her feedback or coming alongside her when she struggled in the first year of this new position, she was fired and replaced with our 3-8th grade principal (who is now K-8). All of these transitions have resulted in our assistant principals being overworked, our staff feeling unsupported, and confusion about who's actually in charge at the school. I'm also disappointed in the school choosing to align itself with a specific brand of American conservative evangelicalism rather than the "bible based" identity it claims. My understanding is that when teachers talked or prayed about the unrest in Minnesota from earlier in this year, it was met with an email from admin asking them to "steer away from politics". But it was perfectly okay for the head of schools to send out an easter message that complained about a Washington State millionaires tax? Apparently Mark 10:25 or the Apostle's charitable living in Acts can be overlooked to embrace a gospel of prosperity rather than one rooted in the Bible. Needless to say, this institution has gone downhill. I love NCA, its teachers, and its families, but as an institution it's fallen well out of line with its original mission. This school cares too much about optics, and less about practice. They even had a teach inservice event last year where teachers were instructed to create accounts and give 5 star reviews to the school to bolster its online image. I'd be surprised if this review stays up long before they have it removed, but know this is all coming from someone who's been around this place a long time and is sad to see how it's fallen.

We used to be well known in the state for our athletic teams being very good for many years in a row, and i think we're just craving some of that lost glory back. Also, if you don't like rednecks, DON'T HANG WITH REDNECKS. Honestly, you're acting like being a redneck is bad. Our community is diverse and welcoming of all races, and there has been no bullying or racism that i can see, and certainly none from our more conservative-minded faction of our school. We took a tour with Starbright and instantly felt at ease. You could tell they clearly cared so much about the kids, keeping everyone safe, and remaining as normal as you can during an abnormal time. My son attended until he went to kindergarten. My daughter has been there since she was an infant. It's a terrible day when you drop off your baby and go back to work, but it's much less terrible when you know that your child is going to be taken care of by incredibly knowledgeable, caring, and kind teachers. Ms. Pam has been there for over 20 years, and she is wonderful. Our daughter will be heading off to kindergarten in the fall, and it will be so sad to say our goodbyes at the end of August. We have loved each teacher for the way they have helped both of my kids develop into the beautiful, caring people they are today. My kids are different people, with their individual personalities, and both have been able to grow and flourish into incredible versions of themselves. Ms. Melissa is the Pre-K teacher for my daughter, and this class is incredible. My daughter has learned so much since being in this class. The way Ms. Melissa makes learning fun and creative and engages the kids is remarkable. Sidenote: I have attended a few field trips over the years, and I will say every single time we arrive somewhere, the first thing I hear is how much they love Starbright kids because they are so well-behaved and have such great manners. Lastly, Lexie and Jen are incredible, and like family. They know every single child's name, parents' name, and have a story to tell you about something that your kid did that week. I always appreciate communication via email when something changes, and the willingness to talk and find a resolution if there is a concern. They keep things running smoothly, and they truly care about every child that comes through. We will forever be grateful to Starbright. I have tears just writing this.

The boss babe, Jen, she listened and took action anytime it was needed and did her best to make your requests made- EVEN THROUGH the hardest times of the pandemic. I was so sad to pull my son out of after only being there for 6 months because I REALLY loved how they loved and cared for my son. But he started to feel unsafe and would cry and fight going. When I asked why, he would tell me the name of one teacher who just made him feel unsafe. I came to learn that anytime my son had to be around Ms. Nevi that he would do what he could to leave the immediate area. I also noticed little things that she would say or do didn't always add up. I cherish the memories we have from Starbright and was really looking forward to my second baby going there- but I couldn't continue to keep my son in a place with a teacher that he would scream in discomfort about.

I was so apprehensive since this was my first time sending my child off to spend some time without me, but everyone was so amazing and I loved all the updates on what my kid was up to throughout the day via the app. They made sure to send me extra pictures on his first day, which was so sweet. My son has a speech delay and he came home after 2 days singing the alphabet and counting to ten. It was amazing. Their prices were competitive and availability/flexibility was unmatched. Everyone was so kind and the kids have plenty of room to play outside while also being kept safe.

Each age group has their own classroom and multiple teachers so the kids are with peers their own age. They are very engaging with many different activities throughout the day/week/month to keep the kids happy, busy, active and always learning or doing something new. They provide quality food with a lot of variety and a good, healthy balance. There is a nice outdoor play area (partially undercover) that also gets natural shade during the hottest part of the day. Recently they started using a cool app for faculty and parents only which allows them to provide updates throughout the day - everything from what the kids are doing to what they are eating and (opt-in if you want) photos of your kids! It's nice to feel connected during the day even though we're away from our kiddos while working. They have an iPad at pickup and drop-off where you can use a QR code on your phone to check your child in or out "hands-free" which is very helpful these days. They do everything by the book from class size ratios to sunscreen authorization forms, you name it, they adhere to state and local policies. Tuition usually goes up once annually but that is typical with rising costs of everything, living wage increases and food costs in WA state. I'm so glad we found this awesome preschool when we did.

AMHS has insufficient academic challenges, low curriculum difficulty, lack of critical thinking, students dare not question teachers or ask sharp questions, and the overall learning atmosphere is relatively passive. Attendance problems are evident and the level of commitment to their studies is low, with many students only cramming for exams and lacking sustained academic commitment. The campus atmosphere is fickle, lacking in deep communication, and lunch hours are more focused on entertainment or gossip than academic discussion. Some students behave mean and bad, and even show unreasonable attitude in honors courses, forming an unhealthy campus atmosphere. AMHS has limited resources and lacks the atmosphere to enter top universities, which puts students at a disadvantage in the competitiveness of further study. The quality of extracurricular activities is low, the participation in academic activities is not high, and the student's involvement is insufficient. Overall, the AMHS campus has a loose culture, a low academic atmosphere and a low social level. As a student who transferred from AMHS to a private high school in downtown Seattle, I must say--AMHS is truly worse than an average public school! In every aspect, it simply cannot compare to other private schools in greater downtown Seattle. I cannot compare someone who can concisely summarize a criminal case in three sentences and write in-depth, multi-perspective analyses of the U.S. election for the school newspaper to someone who, in an American history class discussion on feminism, could only exclaim: "Come on, we are women!" I cannot compare a group of students who eagerly continue discussing mock trial notes after class and analyze capitalism through Argentina's economic history to those who, before finals, can only frantically Google answers. I cannot compare AMHS's pre-packaged, greasy cafeteria food (Panda Express, Costco pizza) to the organic, locally sourced meals prepared at our school. I cannot compare students who fearlessly challenge authority, raise sharp yet insightful critiques in front of teachers, and pursue truth and reason to AMHS students who submit to authority and speak without sincerity. I cannot compare the steady, meaningful Capital Hill dates at our school to the unstable, ambiguous situationships at AMHS. I cannot compare the humble and kind student who got into Dartmouth to the mean-spirited, irrational girl in AMHS's Honors Pre-Calculus class. I cannot compare the efficient, warm, and supportive environment at our school to AMHS's indifference toward its students. I cannot compare AMHS students, some of whom miss half a semester of classes, to our school, where every student shows up daily without fail. I cannot compare students at our school, who engage in lunchtime discussions about global economics and politics, to AMHS students, who skip class at every opportunity. Since transferring, I no longer waste my energy worrying about a history class in which talent has nowhere to shine or about a hypocritical and indifferent school administration. When I walked up to the Main Hall's college acceptance board, I finally understood--any college admission result from our school would be seen as mind-blowing at AMHS. I feel ashamed of my past short-sightedness and emotional attachment! AMHS is not a place where you can receive a quality education or flaunt any so-called "privilege" or "superiority." In every aspect, it simply cannot compare to other private schools in greater downtown Seattle. I cannot compare someone who can concisely summarize a criminal case in three sentences and write in-depth, multi-perspective analyses of the U.S. election for the school newspaper to someone who, in an American history class discussion on feminism, could only exclaim: "Come on, we are women!" I cannot compare a group of students who eagerly continue discussing mock trial notes after class and analyze capitalism through Argentina's economic history to those who, before finals, can only frantically Google answers. To say that my experience there was horrific would be putting it mildly. This school is based off of antiquated fundamentalist Christian ideals and the staff have no interest in teaching children about the true love of Christ. They focus so much attention on the legalities of Christianity, rather than focusing on Christ's grace and love for mankind. I was 11 years old when my parents decided to move me to this "school" and it was worst decision they could have ever made for me. I was placed in Laura Young's 5th grade class and she personally attacked and victimized me every chance she got, even though I was only a young child. I was shunned by other staff members, teachers and students alike simply because I liked girly things such as wearing lip gloss or nail polish. Teachers would tell students not to eat lunch with me because I was "too sinful" so I spent most of my time there alone. It was incredibly damaging to my self-esteem as a young child. As far as the education goes, sure, it was better than the average public school but a good education didn't make up for the horrific treatment that I experienced at the hands of the faculty and their offspring. Laura Young made our 5th grade class memorize the declaration of independence word for word. Let me tell you that as someone who now works at one of the largest corporations in the United States and makes well over six figures a year, memorizing the declaration of independence did absolutely nothing to aid me in my career (or in any part of my life for that matter). I have looked at the current faculty as of 2023 and I still see some of the same faces that I did when I was in attendance at this school. Those same teachers and administrators tormented me, all in the name of God. Word to the wise...if you value your child's wellbeing and spiritual health, stay very far away from this school. There are plenty of other Christian schools in the area that still offer a good education, without the extreme judgment and psychological abuse that your child will no doubt experience if enrolled in this utter pathetic excuse for a school.

I was very confused as to what steps to take to enroll and even though the college's emails were helpful, I wanted some one on one assistance. So on my day off from work, I drove over and found my way to the Admissions office. I was greeted by the most wonderful woman and I hate that I cannot remember her name, but she was extremely kind and even left her desk at the back of the room to show me where to go to speak to an advisor. When I got to the building across the hallway, I was greeted by a very sweet woman named Ella who helped me set up an advising appointment. Although I hadn't planned on it, I also took a Math and English placement test in their testing center. Everyone there was very nice and helpful. When I met Ella for the appointment, I was really nervous about starting school again, but she was very helpful and offered to look over my transcripts from my four previous schools to help me decide what classes to take. She also eased my fears about my learning disabilities and so forth. The campus itself is really nice. I parked behind the buildings in the visitor parking so I had to walk halfway across campus to find the buildings I needed. But it was a nice walk. The campus is spread out but not so much that you would find yourself turned around. It can be confusing at first, but I found my way to the student union and looked around. It's very nice and spacious and there is a nice bookstore inside. The store was closed but I'm looking forward to checking it out. I am so excited about starting school in the fall and I think I'm going to love being an Edmonds College Triton. I'll keep you posted. =)
