The problem was... something kept on nagging me... telling me that *waves hand* this was not the cafe I was looking for... and unfortunately what ever it was, it was right. They serve Vittoria coffee..!! This (in case you were wondering) in my coffee obsessed opinion is a bad thing. Don't get me wrong... if there was a choice between instant and Vittoria I'd have to choose Vittoria (but more than likely I would just not drink coffee until I found option an c). When I think of this coffee the words bland and burnt pop into my head. Secondly I don't rate the service here very high. Staff seemed to wander around with little to no purpose. The only thing that saved this place from a 1 star review was the popularity that they obviously have with some people. I sure don't get it, but I will save my 1 star for some other time. I can only assume people come here for the food, or because it has the best location in Hornsby, but either way I doubt they come here for good coffee... and neither should you. Cafe Summary ------------------------ Passion for Coffee - 3/10 Coffee beans - Vittoria Crema (1=burnt, 10=velvet) - 4/10 Special coffees avail? - N/A P.S. On the way out I caught a glimpse of the cakes they have, and they did look awesome. Was too afraid to ask how much they were.. Special Features ------------------------ Toilets

We did not order an entrée For main, I went with the Beef eye-fillet (220g pasture fed) baby fondant potato, steamed broccolini, creamy peppercorn sauce for just under $33, which I think is a fair price for a great piece of meat. As usual the meat was cooked exactly to my liking which is medium - well. It was tender, mouthwatering, delicious! They have always cooked a good steak here and this was no different. My sister went for the Crispy skinned king salmon with watercress, rocket, cucumber & preserved lemon salad, spicy watermelon salsa for $28.90. She was quite pleased with her order also. We also had coffee and tea. My cappuccino was nice but I have had better. Service was excellent from our friendly waitress who looked after us all evening. All in all it was a pleasure to eat here and I highly recommend it.

The menu was primarily seafood, also not a surprise. I decided to order a salad, not really in the mood for seafood. There was roast cauliflower, steak, chicken Parmesan, and various pizzas in addition to fishy dishes. The place was also packed, so I was glad we got an outside table. I thought my salad was delicious. It had fennel and Parmesan cheese shavings over the greens. I don't know what the greens were, but everything went well together and it was a generous portion. I had second thoughts about salad when I saw the amazingly presented entrees my dining companions had selected. After starting out with a beautiful Bloody Mary, my daughter-in-law had a crumbed dory burger with chips(fries in the States). It had two fish patties coated in herbed crumbs and she said she almost always ordered it, it was so good. It looked delicious but I stuck with my salad. My son had beer-battered flathead fish and chips. It was perfect with crunchy, lightly browned coating covering flakey white fish. I snagged a few of his fries which were also perfect. Prices in restaurants are always higher than in the U.S., but how likely are we to find fish like dory or flathead on the menu? Additionally, waitstaff in Australia are paid a living wage and don't rely on tips.

We started with a mini martini and goat cheese tart combo that they promoted as a bite while you decide on the menu for the night... very creative idea! We ordered a bunch of plates to share and everything was delicious but the most surprising was the kangaroo dish? As we were visiting Australia we had to order this off the menu but were not expecting it to be a raw dish like tartare. However, we were so pleasantly surprised with the taste! We shared 3 of the desserts and all of them were heavenly! Such a delicious dinner, great service, and some great people watching as well! This was a dinner I will remember for a very long time!!

This was the most highly rated restaurant in Surry Hills, and it exceeded all expectations. I cannot say enough great things about the duck slow cooked in plum sauce. It was perfectly seasoned with a bright, sweet plum glaze-- the meat was so tender that it fell off the bone. This was hands down the most delicious duck dish I have ever eaten. We enjoyed a handful of their appetizers (oyster shooters, mini pancakes with crème fresh, etc), all of which were incredible. Very grateful to our waiter for being so helpful with menu suggestions and accommodating one of the guests with a more complicated food palette. The ambience inside was intimate with low warm lightly. The music was classy and not too loud. Such a beautiful and memorable space.

All of the food we had was top notch, and the service was friendly and professional, even if there were a few details that weren't perfectly polished. Although the food looks great, they didn't taste as good as it looked. I think the best things were the oysters and seared ahi. Oysters were very fresh and the ahi was pretty and tasted amazing! The worst thing was the wine (which Ian didn't drink) and the dessert (hard dry cake which you probably needed a knife to cut and ice cream that almost completed melted on the plate within 2-3 min). Maybe that's how a genoise is supposed to be but we thought it was horrible and couldn't eat it. The pork belly was good but the salad had way too much mayo. Oxtail dumplings were good but I think a little undercooked and almost lukewarm. Brussel sprouts could have been cooked longer. Ian liked the barramundi but I thought it tasted like talaipa (he said it's cause it's a brackish water fish). The servers were pretty attentive. Checking if we needed water and taking away our dishes when finished. But one thing they never asked was how we were enjoying the food. Especially with the dessert, we only took one bite and left it. Overall we were pretty disappointed that this was our only dinner in Sydney on this trip and it wasn't the greatest. I understand it was a school, but I guess we expected it to be great from the reviews we've read and heard from a friend. One good thing is we didn't over eat! Haha! And it was decent prices.

The congee was interesting, but at $15 a bowl of boiled white rice, compared to less than $5 a bowl at every other Chinese restaurant, it's a bit steep. Tasted and looked good though. The onsen eggs on toast and salmon was okay, but tasted a bit too ordinary. I saw both the ex Masterchef contestants hard at work. I liked seeing that they were personally behind the food and care about delivering quality food to customers. Too often these days, a celebrity chef will leave the restaurant to run itself.

Well Kin is a bit like that but also in every way the opposite. Kin serves Asian-style cafe food, spanning Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese and Malaysian cuisines with some Australian cafe style food to boot. And somehow...it works! The salmon is out of this world - super tender but with a lovely charred surface. My money's on sous vide then blow torched. The accompanying spinach is a curious ball of umami and the onsen eggs have me leave poached eggs behind in the dust. The pho is incredibly rich yet delicate and the black sesame shake is grey like concrete, just the way black sesame anything should be. Despite not being a follower of My Kitchen Rules, I somehow still know of Shanelle and Uel. It's a delight to see them hard at work in the kitchen when we visit and even more so when we see them truly embodying their name, bantering with their staff and checking in to make sure they've eaten. It is clear that the food here is made with love. Kin, try as you may to keep me away with your terrible parking, puns and queues, but I will be back for the rest of the menu!
