It has been quite some time since I had a coffee at the Blu Water Grill... and given their new white refurbished look, and professional setup, I figured it worth trying them out again before reviewing it. The problem was... something kept on nagging me... telling me that *waves hand* this was not the cafe I was looking for... and unfortunately what ever it was, it was right. They serve Vittoria coffee..!! This (in case you were wondering) in my coffee obsessed opinion is a bad thing. Don't get me wrong... if there was a choice between instant and Vittoria I'd have to choose Vittoria (but more than likely I would just not drink coffee until I found option an c). When I think of this coffee the words bland and burnt pop into my head. Secondly I don't rate the service here very high. Staff seemed to wander around with little to no purpose. The only thing that saved this place from a 1 star review was the popularity that they obviously have with some people. I sure don't get it, but I will save my 1 star for some other time. I can only assume people come here for the food, or because it has the best location in Hornsby, but either way I doubt they come here for good coffee... and neither should you. Enjoyed a wonderful meal at BluWater Grill Hornsby last night. We were lucky to get one of the last remaining tables in what was a busy night for one of Hornsby's finest eateries. We did not order an entrée For main, I went with the Beef eye-fillet (220g pasture fed) baby fondant potato, steamed broccolini, creamy peppercorn sauce for just under $33, which I think is a fair price for a great piece of meat. As usual the meat was cooked exactly to my liking which is medium - well. It was tender, mouthwatering, delicious! They have always cooked a good steak here and this was no different. My sister went for the Crispy skinned king salmon with watercress, rocket, cucumber & preserved lemon salad, spicy watermelon salsa for $28.90. She was quite pleased with her order also. We also had coffee and tea. My cappuccino was nice but I have had better. Service was excellent from our friendly waitress who looked after us all evening. All in all it was a pleasure to eat here and I highly recommend it. read more

This delightful Modern Australian restaurant is a big local favourite with the parental units. It's actually boarding on embarrassing, they just need to wander in and one of the kindly waiters will beam a knowing smile and say, "Two serves of garlic prawns (e $16.90, m $32.90) and a San Pellegrino?" And nine times out of ten that's exactly what they'll order. Adventurous much? The prawns come sizzling in a pot of garlic and chili oil with a side of crusty bread to dunk. To be fair, I can totally see why it's their staple. But when I'm catching up with the folks for dinner at Blu, I'll always wait to hear the fish of the day. It's generally some delicious piece of grilled fish with vegies, maybe kipfler potatoes and a light, fresh (thankfully non-creamy) sauce. I guess that makes me kinda boring too. It's been a while since I've eaten dinner there, but back in the day they had a waiter who was training as an opera singer. So if you timed your visit, you'd be treated to an astounding song followed by the rapturous applause of diners. Dinner and a show! Blu is also a favourite of ladies who lunch. Try one of their light and fresh Thai salads ($16.90) and wash it down with tangy lemon lime and bitters, or a cheeky glass of wine. If you leave room for coffee and dessert, it's highly dangerous going to check out the array of cakes on offer. I usually cave, but opt to share a piece (the portions give new definition to the word 'generous'). Alas the coffee I can take or leave. It's a bit of a shame, because Blu has everything else sorted, it would be good if they had a gun barista behind the bar. At least you know the garlic prawns will be good. read more

First impressions when the coffee order came you can see it was made without a lot love. The coffee tasted better than it looked. We ordered a big breakfast & a smashed avocado with feta and both good. The big breakfast was a nice serve & hot which is hard to get from other places these days. This has to be one of my favourite places to grab tapes from. The grilled haloumi with pistachio, lemon chicken. Indoor and outdoor seating available, staff are friendly and food is good. A bit pricey but overall lovely place to go to eat. read more

This place changed hands a few months ago and since then it has gone down hill drastically, the wait staff could care less about you and are slow to take/deliver orders and the food has deteriorated terribly. We used to have breakfast favourites that are no longer on the menu and the coffee is terrible. There are plenty of better places around for breakfast. read more

Apart from the fact that they can't spell "Blue" (unless "Blu" means something special) and that they seemingly transfer the espresso shot for a takeaway from a glass to the paper cup, which evidently leaves most of the valuable coffee oils in the glass, they're not too bad. Maybe I got a cancelled order and that's why I saw barista girl pour the espresso shot into my takeaway cup. Either way, you shouldn't do it! Damn you barista girl*, this is not how you make a proper coffee Who taught you to make a coffee this way? A monkey? Anyway, because of this the coffee tasted flat, almost non-descript [imagine "sad face emoji" and "coffee" emoji here]. Another $3.50 down the drain [imagine "stunned" emoji here]. Maybe barista girl was dreamy and who could blame her on a sunny autumn arvo [imagine "autumn" emoji here]. One hour before heading home, routine sets in, "oh shit, I meant to do a takeaway". Outside Blu Water the Hornsby water clock, though not ticking, is at least purling... [imagine embedded purling water sound here] Apart from that they have a nice undercover sitting area, which suits when it's raining, and are child friendly enough to offer drawing gear to the kids. Foodwise they offer the usual fanfare (unfortunately that includes cronuts *dry-retch*), but I'm yet to try those. * Clarification: Expression used for illustrative purposes only. This has been our regular weekend breakfast/lunch spot for a year. Although it takes roughly 30 mins drive all the way from Ryde I found it excellent choice for young families. Easy to get a big table and space for pram. Friendly staff and variety of choice of dishes which our kids also loved. It located right in front of the fountain near 2 westfield entrance which has a good vibe, kids can hangout in the area if they get bored. Its a bit pricey but they offer something I can't find in Ryde area. read more

I have mixed feelings on this restaurant. Having been there quite a few times (its a favourite of my friends), I love that the waiters etc really get to know you. I once wore a 'Hug Me' T-Shirt and one of the waiters demanded I stand up to hug him which was hilarious. Another time I tried to embarrass my male friend by telling the waiter to 'Make sure you put a strawberry on the side, its his favourite part of the dessert' and ever since then, with dessert, that waiter will bring out a solo strawberry on a plate with cream and place it in front of my friend. So the staff are pretty friendly and on the ball. The only problem is that, to me, the food isn't that great. It's probably the most upscale place in Hornsby and I don't think the food is worth the price. I've never been impressed by a meal there, its always just been 'OK'. I enjoy going there after the late movie for coffee and cake. The Mars Bar crepes are pretty good :) read more

Blu has a great vibe and an extensive menu that caters for everyone. I've always found the staff friendly and attentive. The coffees reliably good. I strongly recommend Blu as a solid dining choice in Hornsby and the upper North Shore. read more

I have passed this place by more times than I can count during the day as it is always packed out but my friend and I were on a girls night out to see a movie and needed a quick dinner. I just read on google reviews this place was slow. But we didn't have that problem at all. We told them we were in a hurry and I have to say I have never gotten my dinner quicker. The waiter came over flapped our menu's (in a nice way) on the table. Placed my napkin on my lap. Asked what we would like to drink and went off to get it, while we looked at what we wanted to order for dinner. I ordered an entree of size pasta dish that was delicious from the special board and ample in size, my friend ordered the beef Thai salad that she was very happy with. She likes zingy spicy and this did the trick for her. We both ordered a glass of Merlot, got out of there for under $50.00 and saw our movie on time. read more

I have been to Blu Water Grill on multiple occasions and have never been dissapointed by the efficient service and the excellent food. The range of dishes on their menu is plentiful and has lots of variety. My favourite were the garlic prawns in a hot pot which were simply divine. The prices were reasonable and the waitress very accommodating. I have been here on numerous occasions with a large group, as well as with only one other person. The service is always consistent and the food is presented in a timely matter. Staff can make or break a restaurant and in this case it's the latter. Staff are slow, rude and generally not helpful or knowledgeable. Sadly the food doesn't match the high price point. If the price was 50% lower I'd say the food was reasonable. But given the price I expect better. Generally everything is under seasoned and lacking flavour. read more

This place has to have the most shocking service out of any restaurant in sydney. The food is of a poor quality and very greasy. I ordered a burger which was basically a poor tasting pile of oil with no sauce in it at all. It was dry and the meat over cooked. I asked the waiter to take it away it was so bad. My partner also didnt like the taste of her meal. Upon paying the manager applogised and i told him he might want to get his chef cooking lessons. Sit down & having lunch with my boy at the Blue Water Grill - Will & Co. Just having the first bite of the fish, my boy was very happy and then said : "Mum, there is something in this fish I can't eat!" And then he clasp his hands around his stomach and then he vomit. My son say it might have been the strange beans that was below his fish He was very sick after and then had to wear my jacket in the car to because all his clothes were dirty! Your staff didn't even give me more tissues ! No help to clean up and none of them were even willing to help us! Never going back again!!!!! And the worse thing is No one give us any help!
