ShopSCAD is part gift store for SCAD, and part art gallery. It's a delight to walk through the building it's housed in, gaze at the artwork on display, and marvel at the unique items for sale. It's clean, has amazing artwork, and decor, and you're sure to find something unique here. I will say though, that things are EXPENSIVE. So, if you're out looking for something in the $20-$50 dollar range you might be limited to t-shirts and mugs here. Expect to pay a bit extra for the premium of an artist made product. read more

ShopSCAD has some SCAD-swag but also unique, interesting pieces of art, accessories and gifts. My friend and I spent at least 20 minutes here, looking through their cool merchandise. They had hand-painted wallets and bags, statement jewelry, candles, home decor, etc. Even if you're not intending to buy (some of the stuff is quite pricey) it makes for some good browsing. The store is very clean, design-oriented and the staff were friendly. Definitely a must for visitors to Savannah to see a store which showcases the talent of the SCAD students and alumni. read more

Instead of a mass-produced tacky t-shirt from halfway across the globe, getting a Savannah souvenir from ShopSCAD was leaps and bounds better. It's super nifty to be able to buy items from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) past and present students plus faculty. I saw lots of jewelry, cards, paintings, and clothing, just to name a few objects. Unfortunately I was somewhat rushed since I didn't want to drag the rest of my group down, but I could probably have spent lots more time browsing. I did buy some killer earrings which I was extremely giddy about. Checkout could've been faster, but I felt sorry for the poor gal at the register who was wrapping up a transaction with another customer and simultaneously showing a piece of jewelry to another shopper. And FYI: ShopSCAD is also located right across the street from Gryphon Tea Room, another SCAD production. Wasn't able to make it in but it was recommended by my bestie. read more

ShopSCAD is a boutique-gallery with wares from SCAD alumni, students, and faculty, and it's not only a cool way for the artists to get their goods out there, but also a way to let the greater Atlanta community get involved and become aware of the oodles of creativity quietly churning out of the campus on Peachtree. It makes art accessible for the masses - you can grab a unique gift for a friend or treat yourself to a piece of art way cheaper than you'd score at Sotherby's or any other fancy pants gallery. There's a diversity of programs offered by SCAD, so that means you've got a wide selection to choose from. They have goods ranging from jewelry, apparel, paper goods, sculpture, pottery, paintings. . . Especially notable is the Working Class collection, which is a class project of sorts, but much more innovative than any I remember from college. They produce a line of home goods & accessories way more chic than many a line out there. The store is usually kept by a SCAD graduate who does their own creative thing on the side. On my most recent visit, the lovely, recently graduated, fiber major shopgirl and I dished about Project Runway for a good five minutes. They're soon moving from the Buckhead location to their main Atlanta branch in Spring 2008. But don't worry. They'll be promptly moving all that creativity and those friendly shopkeepers, too. read more

I'm writing this review as both someone who has purchased work here and also as someone who had his work shown at ShopSCAD when I was a student at SCAD. Thus, I will try to incorporate what I learned about the Shop from several points of view. The good: A strong selection of work by SCAD students, alumni, and faculty. I would say in the fine arts, you'll often find as much alumni work as student work--especially painting and photography. Several pieces of jewelry I looked at and one I purchased were also by alumni. This is win-win: students and alumni get their work shown, local residents and visitors get to see what SCAD artists are doing, and alumni get to continue in their professional relationship with the school. Apparently, beyond the Savannah location they now have a ShopSCAD on the Atlanta campus, which makes perfect sense. They also have a website and sell from that. When they were selling a couple of my paintings, they did not have them in the actual Savannah store very long (the store is small) but did retain them for sale on the website, which is very nice and allows them to have more work for sale than they may have room for in the shop. Dealing with ShopSCAD as a student was overall a delight. They really seem concerned with getting quailty student work shown. I was studying architecture and didn't expect them to even take my paintings since I was not a painting major, but after reviewing the work, they carried some of my paintings and also some of my small photographic prints. The not-so-good: You will note, at ShopSCAD and really all over the SCAD campus a certain aesthetic at work. It isn't "Martha Stewartish" as some have claimed, but it's heavy on muted greens, bright oranges, and earth tones. Dogs, sad looking women, and trees that appear dead or ready for a star role in a Halloween cartoon are favored subjects in this aesthetic. Some grad students I know at SCAD have joked that there is even a formula to what you should paint to get a piece into ShopSCAD. I will say this: the artwork is all high-quality but you will see certain trends. It may or may not appeal to you. If you're a thirtysomething, trendy, Southern lady who thinks of herself as a more hip version of Faith Hill, you'll probably love it though and buy it up like crazy . . . oh wait: that's pretty much who lives in Savannah and buys mid-range art. The website is a great idea and overall well-done. However, their inventory is apparently not "live" as I tried to buy a necklace from them and it showed it was in stock at the point of purchase but the gallery director emailed me in the morning to explain she had already sold the last one at Christmas and would have to refund my money. She also needed my credit card info for this, which indicates their system records the transaction but doesn't display the exact info after approval (which is good for security) so I'm surprised they don't have live inventory on their point-of-sale and web-store computers. It's not hard to do: if the necklace sold in the actual shop, when it was scanned that should have alerted the computer it was the last one in stock and to remove it from inventory on the web, too. Those slight misgivings aside, overall, what ShopSCAD is doing is innovative and a great idea. I have been only proud and pleased to have been a part of it and will continue to support them as a customer. read more

We made a special trip here to shop, and I was so excited to explore and find something original as a souvenir for our Savannah trip. Paid for an hour of parking, expecting a while of browsing. The shop girl unlocked the door and let us in, and I made it through maybe 1/4 of the store before I started to feel sick. Like really sick :( Like that panic, sweaty feeling where you know you have to throw up STAT. I didn't want to do that in this gorgeous store full of art! I figured if it was a SCAD store, it would be attached to a building with hopefully a restroom. I panic-opened the double door and looked out. Someone was there, and I explained I was just looking for a restroom. She said oh it's right over there. I start to head that way and the shop girl is yelling and running toward us saying I can't go in there. Seemed fine with whomever I ran into in the hallway. She got over to us, and I explained I was feeling sick. She directed me to the cafe across the street. Can you imagine that exchange? I run over there to this tiny cafe trying not to be sick on myself and say excuse me where is your toilet even though I'm not a patron? She locks the door to the hallway with a loud click looking at me while I'm standing there. I genuinely hope she never is in that situation and has someone treat her like a subhuman. I clearly had to leave the store, one because I was going to be sick. And two, because being treated like a criminal made me extra sick. To management - this is so unfortunate. I recognize we're in a pandemic, and we're taking precautions. If it's not standard issue to let someone go to the restroom, that's alright. I would have never looked for one there if it weren't a genuine emergency! But I really hope the instructions for employees don't include locking the door in the face of someone who is clearly about to throw up on the carpet. We're humans. Where is the empathy? Still one of my favorite stops every time we visit Savannah! I always love seeing what kinds of new goodies they have, all made by SCAD students, alumni, professors, or staff. It's so great to see these artists doing what they do best and having a school that supports it by promoting sales of their work. From paintings to jewelry, to ties and soaps, wooden bowls or books, this is a great place to get a unique gift for loved ones and know your money is going to extremely hard-working, talented people. Even if you don't buy anything or don't plan on it, it's a well-curated gallery that's worth stopping in to just look at some really awesome antically made pieces. I expected maybe way too much when I came here. I expected to see something unique. I felt I was going to a place that was very Etsy- like and a little pricey hipster Boho boutique. Very cutesy stuff but not my style. I admire the creativity of the artists but I was expecting something new and crisp or off the beaten path. ShopSCAD is really cool! It's awesome to peruse (and possibly purchase) the work of young students/artists. I walked out with a 3D printed necklace made by a SCAD student that I absolutely love. If you're a fan of craft/art/supporting the arts, definitely stop by and have a look (or if you're not - maybe you'll become one!). The reasons I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 are: 1) The employees could be a little more hands on. I'm always more likely to get attached to and involved with a piece if I know more about it/the artist. 2) It would be awesome if they had artist information cards or something upon purchase or even with that artists work - these are young developing artists and word of mouth advertising could be really great for them! I almost threw away my receipt until I realized it's the only thing I have with the artists name on it. Addition to my review after reading other reviews: Yes, the prices are a little bit high.. But if you know anything about the American craft market, that is typical. This is the life work of these people, and it's something that you will not find elsewhere and is not mass produced. One of the main reasons I checked out ShopSCAD was because of yelp! Thanks Larissa and Karen for you recommendation! Its a very fun store with lots of items to browse through. The great thing about their goods is that, since all of it is made through SCAD students, its very "in" right now. Wasn't the best place to shop for mom or dad, but for bro and sis...this was perfect. I recommend checking out the jewelry cases that showcase anything from a rock/punk look to girl next door sweet. There was a case full of some hot bags that ranged from $55-$85...very nice for the summer! The galleries showcased some pretty affordable art that I would buy for my loft. Oh and they have clothes...guys you are in luck in this department as well. Plenty of creative t-shirts wrapped in containers like a Butcher Deli shop were pretty cool and the BEST FIND ever were these leather belts with these buckles that look like a mix between wood and/or plastic apoxy. They are $100 each but well worth it! Seriously, you will get a date just by wearing that belt! ;) I'll definitely be back throughout the year for birthday gifts! read more

What a great shopping experience. I was in the store recently and fell in love with a necklace by Kathleen Grebe. I had problems, however, with the necklaces's clasp. The salesperson, Joe Bush, contacted the artist, who agreed to change the clasp. Joe stayed in communication, letting me know when the necklace was shipped to the artist and then when it was back in the store, ready to be sent to me. This was the best customer service I have received in a long time. The quality of merchandise in the store makes for a shopping adventure. read more

I always stop by the SCAD store when I'm in Savannah. It's a cute little shop that offers items from SCAD students, alumni and faculty. I'm usually looking for gifts for other people as opposed to myself when I shop there. They have a wide variety of options for purchase ranging from stationery to jewelry to clothing to art to various home furnishings. The items are a bit on the pricier side, but I don't mind paying extra to support local artists. Plus you can find unique gifts that are great for all occasions. Some of the sketches are as low as $25 so deals are there if you take the time to find them. The people working in the store (students??) are always friendly and helpful. I usually just tell them who I'm shopping for (their likes) and my budget and they always come up with great stuff for me. Parking is usually easy to find on the streets. ShopSCAD has re-opened at the main campus of SCAD-Atlanta in midtown. The address is now 1600 Peachtree St and there's tons of free parking on either side of the building. If you have a few minutes to spare, you can check out 2 amazing on campus galleries after you've finished your shopping. As a newish employee of SCAD, I haven't yet purchased tons of stuff from ShopSCAD, but I have gotten a couple of great gifts here--niec jewelry for mom and an awesome t-shirt for a friend. I'm a total sucker for stores like this. As an art school grad, I want to help students... I want to discover up-and-coming designers... I want to see first attempts at cool new ideas. ShopSCAD was part of what I was expecting-- lots of cute jewelry, purses, paintings, and housewares. The prices were slightly higher than i was expecting (and I'm generally happy to pay more than most people for something I love). I probably would have bought a purse, even though it was about double what it should cost, but the girl working was such a snob I just wasn't feeling it. When you overpay for a new designer's work, you want to feel good about it. You don't want to feel obligated or looked down upon for purchasing something. Lower the markup, get the employees an attitude adjustment, and try again. read more

Here you will find everything from gold leaf bovine bones cast into a modern sculpture to quilts with a twist, to mixed media works, whatever you see here is a one of a kind original, you won't find it at any chain store anywhere. The shop ships if you buy something too large to take along with you. And the staff is SUPER nice, going out of their way to explain the background on all the art and the up and coming artists. I bought my favorite pair of earrings here. I love it because they are truly unique and made by a local student. I hate it because I lost one of my favorite earrings and now I'll never be able to replace it! Seriously though, if you like art, unique items, supporting locals, supporting education, or are simply bored, this is a must stop. I stop whenever I'm going through Savannah, and although I don't always buy something because it's pretty pricey, I always leave inspired and excited for when I can purchase something! read more

I've always been impressed with SCAD's work around Savannah so to have such an easy and accessible store for the public to purchase student's original works? Awesome! VARIETY All the products here are unique so of course the variety is insane. Next to the jewelry there's bath products, lotions, then wrapped textiles, 3D paintings, dolls... you get the idea. The creativity is all over the place. There is a common 'bold style' that is subtly repeated in many of the things you see (as another reviewer noted)--this is the type of art you see inside dark-wood coffee shops NOT Cracker Barrel-type plaid wallpapered homes. I already enjoyed just browsing around and looking at everything from the same eyes as if I was visiting a gallery. WHY THE PRICES? I'm not too familiar with how things get created but in comparing these products to similar support-local-artists stores back in my hometown St. Pete, FL the prices here were HIGH. Although styles varied, the materials appeared similar to what I was comparing... so am I missing something? Ah well--pricing is in the eyes of the beholder. OOH, this place is a goldmine. I kept going into this shop, knowing I would find something to take home that would be my Savannah souvenir. I loved the silver jewelry. One piece was oh so gothic and oh so out of my price range .I did find some lovely pen and ink note cards for my mom and for myself I bought the TO DIE FOR Tobacco and Honey candle. shopSCAD is a neat idea; the local school is clearly bustling with talent, and this is a nice way for the students to sell some of their wares and make a few dollars. We were dodging Savannah downpours this weekend, when I noticed the shopSCAD store on Bull Street. During our visit to Savannah, it was hard to miss the artsy folks, galleries, and events in the city. I was surprised to find that the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has an actual store where you can purchase items designed and crafted by students. It was an awesome boutique - quiet, with only 1 salesperson - (who actually left us alone in the store while going outside to say hi to a friend.) The store has everything from clay diningware to pillows, to printed paper, to soaps/candles, to clothing (adult & baby), to jewelry. If I had more expendable cash - I would've picked up gifts in a heartbeat. If you are looking for unique gifts - this is a great place. You can also order from their website - and the best part, is you are supporting the work of those attending the college. The only downside - is that I'd love to see more of a variation of price points for their merchandise. Then again, the quality and uniqueness are certainly worth a premium. read more

After reading Yelp reviews, I was so hoping to find some good student work to support, but the truth is, everything in the store was WAY overpriced. I am a firm believer in supporting struggling artists (since I am one myself) but I also firmly believe that students are still students and thus cannot/should not charge the same price for their work as masters would. I think shopSCAD could get a lot more exposure for their students if they priced their offerings better. (And I'm aware that some items might have been by SCAD alums, but those could/should have been labeled as such.) read more

Beautiful little shop to peruse for art, jewelry, and other accessories. I experienced nice customer service and reasonable prices for the quality and uniqueness of the items. I ended up buying a space themed bowtie as a holiday gift- and had to pull myself away before getting some geometric jewelery or crystal earrings. This is a must see when you visit Savannah. ShopSCAD has a variety of items made by SCAD students and Alum. Everything from hanging art to housewares to jewelry. Many times, you will see items that have been featured in Lucky or Real Simple magazine. After taking the time to peruse every nook and cranny, I settled on 2 sets of coasters, one of which was designed for Showtime for their show Californication! I also purchased a cute owl ornament. i could have easily bought many more items, but I had to practice some restraint! read more

For me this was a perfect location to find my Savannah "souvenirs". I was impressed with the breadth and of items the store carried.
