If you've ever thought to yourself "this drugstore could use a second floor" then you're in luck, because this one has it! On the first floor you'll find the huge cosmetics section (my personal fave), cleaning supplies, cashiers and the grocery section. If you're looking for cosmetics this is the best place to come for huge selection - they have a huge beauty boutique (Chanel! Urban Decay! Clinique!) and a good amount of affordable cosmetics too. Their NYX section is pretty great, though I still find myself popping between here and Lawton's as their stock varies quite a bit between the two. Upstairs you will find the pharmacy, seasonal goodies (mmm chocolates), hair care, cold and flu medications - the rest of the things you'd expect to find in a drugstore. Absolutely ridiculous service would recommend going quite literally anywhere else for pharmacy services. Pharmacists working July 23 evening lied to me multiple times and would not fill a prescription as promised, flip flopping between what seemed like made up reasons for a simple prescription not being filled. Pharmacists said at 2 times the order was ready for pickup, to which I went for pick up and simply had my time wasted, not to mention was treated as if we hadn't spoken multiple times and with a very bad attitude. the older woman who works in the beauty boutique has ruined each trip I make into this location. often times I have to tell her I am not looking for help 2-3 times until she leaves me alone. Tonight I went in looking for fragrances with specific notes and decided to ask her for suggestions... she showed me fragrances that had nothing to do with the notes I mentioned and was keen on trying to pressure me into purchasing them to make a sale on expensive product. when I then asked if I could smell a few of Ariana Grande's perfumes to see if I liked them she complained that she would have to get a key to open the cabinet and expressed not wanting to do so for me, so I left. I have never been in a store where the workers complain about doing their JOB to the customers and instead try to sell them something they don't want. I really hope she can learn from this and provide better customer service. read more

I come to this Shoppers a lot because of its convenient location and large selection. It's divided into two floors, with the make up and household items being downstairs, and pharmacy related items upstairs (as well as photo developing service). Watch for the little clearance sections around the store because I've picked up some really good bargains there. The store can be quite busy though and there's always a crowd begging for money at the front doors. read more

WOW a double decker shoppers love it!. This is the first time that I have actually went into this shoppers as I was downtown over the weekend and needed some lip chap. I must say I think I was in this location for about 30 minutes just looking around. The layout if a bit different then other locations as it does have the two floors. The bottom floor it like any other shoppers with cosmetics on one side of the store and then the grocery section as well as home supplies on the other. I like spending time in the fragrance section as at work we are not able to wear scents but here it is free range to sample and test. As well I even got a free sample from the young lady that was there. On the other floor you will see the health products as well as the pharmacy. I have not had the opportunity to use this pharmacy as my prescriptions are filled at another but I do like the fact that it is open 24 hours. Good to know. Shoppers is a great one stop shop that always offers optimum points which add up quickly as normally you do not walk out of shoppers without spending $25-$50 bucks. read more

Generally, I'm a fan of the new redesigned Shoppers Drug Mart stores. I love the "beauty boutique" concept with black-smocked consultants ready to advise and recommend for your skin type and colouring. I have to say, though, that this store misses the mark. I'm not sure who thought up the two-level design - maybe someone in a more urban area where real estate is at a premium? Regardless, it needs to be reassessed. Having half your store on top of the other half might work for Sears, where you have a reasonable guarantee of having departments all grouped together, but at Shoppers - where there seems to be no sense as to how items are stocked - it's confusing and off-putting. Additionally, the stairwell is open concept, which gives people with climacophobia (like me!) the creeps. Shoppers, I love ya - but this store has got to go. read more

During a recent wait for a prescription, I took the time for a stroll through Shopper's cosmetics section. Sure, I've peeked through before, but in the 15 minutes I had to wait around, I found a new level of respect for the store's tidy offerings. This Shoppers location can rival with stores like Mills, as its got a line up of medium to high end brands for skin-care, cosmetics and perfumes. Moderately priced brands like Quo offer customers a great product with less of an investment. I'd recommend their brushes and brush cleaner over the more expensive names. (Yes, I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart while in high school, and Quo was around back then!) Cool and creative brands like Benefit and Smashbox lit up my experience with vibrant colors and a spectrum of well packaged product variety. Also available are the more matured, classic brands like Estee Lauder (who coincidentally just bought over Smashbox, FYI), Lise Watier , Clarins, Dior, amongst a few others. As I browsed through, I was approached a few times by employees, but it was all in moderation and high regard. No pressure, no uncomfortable eye-balling... it seemed that they just wanted to make sure I was looked after. I also noticed a few nifty little display racks near the front of the store, labeled "Top Beauty Pick" items. This is great idea for both the store sales and customers. Just as featured in magazines, beauty editors select top products to promote. There were some pretty cool products in here that I would've gotten into more extensively, had I the budget. After 20 minutes of solid wandering, I see Shoppers has really stepped into a new realm of cosmetics and skin-care. Beyond the quick make-up fix, the store has cultivated a high-end, department store feel with its range of product and expertise. With such fantastic brands and variety, I will gladly explore this location next time I'm in the market. read more

This place is what happens when you cross a drugstore with CostCo. In the good way! With two floors of products, this Shoppers fits right in amongst some of the trendier boutiques along Spring Garden. Now, not that I need it, but I understand the (GINORMOUS) cosmetics section is pretty good and it is definitely well-staffed. The ground floor is also home to the groceries/sundries/snacks - and, again, lots of them. Up on the second floor, you'll find the actual pharmacy plus all your cold/cough/medical related stuff as well as your soaps, shampoos, etc. Cards, magazines and bizarrely cheap DVDs too. Rounding it out is the real reason I venture upstairs: seasonal! A huge section, often with cheap stuff from whatever the last "season" was. The biggest downfall is the popularity. It's pretty rare that you won't have to wait in line, no matter the time of day. I was there once at 7 a.m. on a Sunday (Did I mention they're open 24 hours?) and had to wait. read more

This Shoppers Drug Mart is particularly useful now that they carry so much stuff, and are essentially department store sized! I have to wonder a little bit about the organization of the place... It would make sense if the pharmacy type goods were all upstairs and the home/cosmetics/etc were all downstairs but that doesn't appear to be the case. Instead, skin care, hair dye, nail polish etc are downstairs while, binders, pens/pencils etc are upstairs near the pharmacy. I have definitely gone on more than one goose chase around this store trying to imagine where a given product might be. Overall, nice new cosmetics area! I don't tend to purchase expensive make up like this but when I heard tell of a lip gloss that matches to your (lip?) skin tone I decided to check it out... I sampled the gloss and the colour was ok but apparently this product had some sort of plumping agent in it...? So I proceeded to walk around for the rest of the day looking as though I was making a pouting/kissy face. NOT ideal... I guess I don't know enough about the products to shop on this side of the store. Great dairy/juice aisle as well as more space for cleaning products. I always wonder how I end up spending so much at this Shoppers! I recommend availing yourself of the Rx renew phone in option! Saves you the half hour wait once you arrive. read more

I'm going to start by saying that I despise the lay-out of this Shoppers? I know they are trying to be funky and modern about all their refurbishments, but this one is getting out of hand. Firstly, they have all their stuff separated really strange. The make-up isn't near the facial and skin care and the hair colour isn't near the rest of the beauty products. This store is spilt half and half. Some stuff upstairs, other stuff downstairs. It's really frustrating having to walk up and down a flight of stairs to try and locate what you need. Secondly, they also don't have a check-out upstairs, which seems strange. That's probably because the only exit is past the downstairs check-out. This means if you haven't purchased anything, you still have to walk past all the people in line and the cashiers. It just seems silly to me. And lastly, the door leaving this place opens towards the street, which is a huge hazard for passers-by since it opens quickly. I almost hit some girl right in the face the last time I left this Shoppers. Yikes. Careful walking past! read more

Great drug store in the heart of the city. This past weekend they had some great deals on, and I must say i have scored in on some of them, just purely by going up and down the isles. I find it so much more friendly to go to the drug- stores than the nearest Wal*Mart and you get far better service. Stock up on sales when you see them, they are unbeatable! read more

The rare time I need a subscription filled, I go to Shopper Drug Mart on Spring Garden Road because of its convenient location but also because the pharmacists here have always been helpful and friendly. Otherwise, I don't generally go to Shoppers unless I need something specific from there. I find Shoppers very over priced for groceries and items that can be found elsewhere at significantly less prices. If I do buy more than one or two items in here, it'll generally be shower items like soaps or hair products like shampoos or gels. I don't really have a need for the cosmetics counter but if I did, the new renovations have done wonders for this location. It does look quite nice. One of the things I've noticed for a few years is that It's always often lined up here while the number of front-counter staff always seem underwhelmed with the number of customers. I'm not usually in a rush when I shop here but compared to five or six years ago, it seems things haven't gotten any better. There would be as many as four cashiers available for the really busy periods whereas now I never see more than three but usually it's two. This is something that does effect my overall impression. Shoppers is good for the necessities and its 24 hours a day/7 days a week open time is definitely a plus. Also, it's good for the Optimum Points program which does keep me coming back here rather than other stores of its kind. But it's not my top choice if there are other options for specific items like treats, drinks and general groceries. read more

It's helpful to have a Shoppers Drug Mart downtown (even though there's a Lawton's just across the street), but I totally do not get the thinking with their recent renovation. The store went from being all on one level to being divided between two levels. So now when you can't find something, you end up traipsing up and down the stairs repeatedly trying to figure out how and why they've organized things the way they have. The other thing is that the cash lineup now is a one-line-for-however- many-cashiers thing that seems to confuse a lot of people. And there's no real place to line up without being in someone's way. The person ahead of me one day was in a motorized wheelchair and it was a real challenge for them to negotiate this crazy lineup deal. I'm not against change in general, but these changes don't seem to have improved anything. Not really sure what the goal was. read more

Does Shoppers Drug Mart really require a review? No, not really. Am I going to review it anyway? You bet your bottom dollar I am. Of all the Shoppers Drug Marts in the city, this one gets my vote as the best. Spread over 2 floors and open 24 hours a day, you can't beat this location for its size and convenience. It's a great place to grab some quick snacks or even grocery items (insider tip: they sometimes have REALLY great sales on ice cream and pizza - keep you eye on the flyer). They have all your standard health care items, a large beauty section, and of course a pharmacy. The only drawback of this location is that it's busy, so you sometimes have to wait in line for a few minutes longer than you would in other locations, but that's a manageable price to pay. read more

I generally really like Shopper's Drug Mart. This location however frustrates me. The two level layout confuses me. There is no real rhyme or reason as to where anything is. Climbing up and down the stairs looking for something is exasperating. As irritating as this is, the worst part about this location is that there are never enough people at the checkout. It takes forever for them to call for back up (even when there is a very long line) and even then, there are rarely more than two cashiers ready to help you. This evening I watched an employee deal with an older later and her lottery tickets for about five minutes while the line behind me grew to over ten people. Not once did she call for help! Ughhhh *pulling my hair out* I will continue to shop here, because I like Shopper's and the selection they offer. But if I am in a rush I will simply wait until I have more time to work with. read more

Who knew a Shoppers would have two levels. This shoppers certainly made the most of his space. Located on the busy Spring Garden Rd, it really does have a bit of a Wow factor. I do believe it is the only two level in the Halifax/Dartmouth I know of. This is a mini department store, it does really carry everything. Some people find the layout of where things are located a little strange. But I am able to find everything I need and I like the elevator feature, it makes it accessible for everyone. read more

Can you say cheap organic crackers and granola bars? I can. Somehow the grocery selection in this Shoppers is pretty rocking. How do they manage to sell quality foods at such cheap prices? I don't know if I want to know the answer, it just makes me wonder , is all. This Shoppers is massive; the paradigm of drugstore and pharmacies. However, maybe the new Lawtons on Main Street in Dartmouth is actually bigger. They'll have to have a showdown to determine who reigns. I like plucking my way through the makeup section; with the bright lights and radiant hues, it's like being on a movie set. If ever I'm feeling like I need a little freshening up, I'll give myself a little perfume spritz while perusing the aroma department. Beats being stinky, right? The lineups at the Shoppers are often huge. Sometimes I'll skip on making a purchase if the line is snaking around the corner. Lord knows I hate a line. All in all, this Shoppers is pretty groovy. Loads of offerings and a fun place to peruse if you're in a milling about type of mood. read more

One of my favourite Shoppers locations in the city- the place abounds with so much stuff, they need two floors just to showcase everything! Plus it's open all night long, which means I can spring by in a jiffy should I need items in the middle of the night (toothpaste, TP, chocolate perhaps...). The cosmetics department here is quite impressive, featuring both typical "Drugstore" brands like CG and Maybelline,and they also feature more 'advanced' skin care products such as Quo, Bioré and Vichy . They carry a wide variety of fragrances as well, and usually at prices that rival other department store fragrance aisles (I managed to score a bottle of Britney Spears' "Curious" for half price! Pretty sweet deal). And if you find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer number of makeup products and shades availible, the ladies at the cosmetics are friendly, approachable, and often eager to assist you- often, they'll offer to help you right off the bat, and if you just feel like "browsing", they won't pester you. Besides their impressive cosmetics 'department', Shoopers also has a plentiful inventory of grocery goods (including a well-stocked frozen food area complete with dairy products and cold beverages). There is likewise an ample supply of household products, magazines, stationary...the list goes on. Shoppers' inventory supercedes that of pretty much every other pharmacy. Considering that Shoppers IS a pharmacy, it's worth noting the quality and service that unfolds at Shoppers. In general, service tends to be timely and efficient; but, alas, sometimes the staff are busier than usual, in which case they will provide you with "beeper", and allow you to shop around until you are summoned back to the pharmacy by means of the trusty "beeper". It's a strategy that seems to work in that customers don't have to sit around idly awaiting their prescriptions, and the pharmacy don't have to contend with said impatient individuals. On another note: the pharmacy staff are quite friendly and knowledgable (as one would expect)- they are more than willing to explain medications to you, or answer any other inquiries Bottom line: Essentially, it's an ultra-convenient pharmacy- department store combo. Open 24 Hours! Now that's a drug store. I was working on movie set one day and they were using a smoke machine. I didn't realize it but smoke machine's can cause headaches if you are sucking up their smoke for several hours. But I learned this little known fact at 3:00 AM the next day when I woke up with a raging headache that felt like a construction crew were pounding at my head from the inside out. So I stumbled out of my apartment in the, what I thought was vain attempt to find a drug store that would be open at this ridiculous hour. But thanks to this particular Shoppers Drug Marts new 24 hour, 7 days a week policy, I was saved and I could go back to sleep Headache free! They have improved this store big time! It used to be one level but is now two, very large levels. And did I mention they are open 24/7? Their selection is larger than other drug stores and still has good pricing. They do have a confusing layout with some of their items however. For example, hair products and some skin can items are upstairs while mosturizers are downstairs at the end of a snack aisle. Doesn't make much sense and I hope they change that part of the store. The staff are generally quite friendly but they tend to be a bit slow on calling for more help when the line-up at the cash resgister gets out of control. One good example of how helpful the staff can be is, I was getting ready for an audition for a commercial and needed some concealer make-up because I had a bruise on my neck due to a freak mountain biking accident. I won't go into details over the injury but needless to say, I ran into Shoppers Drug Mart before the audition. I didn't want to spend any money but knew I probably didn't have a choice. I showed an older lady at the make-up counter my bruise and she found the perfect concealer AND applied it on my neck for me! And if that wasn't great service I asked her how much a bottle was, expecting to buy it and she countered my question with one asking me if this was the only time I needed the concealer. I told her yes and she said, "don't worry about buying a bottle. Have a great audition." Now if that isn't customer service I don't know what is! Sure she could have made ten dollars for the company but to her she knows its more important to make the customers happy because that will bring us back to the store. This Shoppers Drug Mart has improved big time! It has a great selection of food, health products and a nice group of Pharmacists. So if you have any needs that you think a drug store could meet, go to this one. Especially if you have a bruised neck or a raging headache. read more

The girls in the cosmetic department are super rude every time I go in. They stand around chatting with each other instead of helping and give you attitude. It's obvious they are on commission and only care about ringing you though and not much else. My friends and I go to Saint Mary's and hate going in here to get our cosmetics. I was treated as well as one could ask for by a pharmacist named Monica. it was late at night, I had lost somewhere between the USA and Halifax the medication I rely on to relieve chronic pain that is the aftermath of shingles, and I was suffering. Monica was quick to understand the situation, quick to help me find what I needed and to provide over the counter serious help for the pain. She was calm, witty, helpful, understanding: I don't remember ever falling in love while in such pain. What a place. And there's a lot of other nice stuff to buy as well. read more

This place is super convenient if you're trudging home along Spring Garden and need, say, some dishwasher detergent. They carry a decent amount of eco-alternative products, too, which is what I try to buy. Although I am a minimalist when it comes to makeup, I was told by an excited friend that this place has changed the way she feels about Halifax, because there is finally a place in town to some of the higher end face products she uses. That's thanks to the fact that this Shoppers location was built with a brightly lit wing devoted entirely to cosmetics. I've never needed that side, but I'm sure it's a boon to many people in town. read more
