They asked other people - white people. I then asked for help and the woman was quite dismissive so I left the shop within five minutes. They seem to be more comfortable around their own white, middle class shoppers.That was my impression. Upsetting experience given that I had travelled from Bedfordshire to visit this shop. I went into a nearby Asian store and they had the same product so I bought three. Black family don't shop at the stores of people who don't respect us.

There really is no reason to go to Brixton other than to get drunk. I sometimes go there to visit…read moremy friend Lee and after bypassing the skunk-weed-skunk-weed man at the tube station I walk up to his flat on Brixton Hill and buy my drinking provisions from Kwik Stop, his friendly local corner shop. On top of being open 24 hours, they have an enviable freezer section and any tinned meat you could ever wish to eat, which is useful because pretty much everything else in Brixton is closed after 11pm, including Salisbury's. The men in Kwik Stop are incredibly friendly in the face of adversity (the terrifying residents of Brixton popping in to try and buy things with 1ps and 2ps). The real reason I like this shop is because they sell six cans of lager for a fiver. They also have lots of fruit and vegetables for those of a healthier disposition and all in all it's a very convenient convenience store.

And of course there is nothing fine about the wines on sale here. I remember once being tempted by this discount offer on an already suspiciously cheap wine - 2.69 a bottle or whatever it was. well, if you bought 4 bottles you'd get them for even cheaper. Of course I couldn't resist. And of course the wine was absolutely revolting, vile stuff I suspect it consisted of a mixture of dregs from the left over bottles after a house party. In general, their selection of wines is eccentric at best, but luckily they have a more normal range of beers. And also some spirits, so you'll be alright. The selection of food in here is not great. I'd expect them to at least do all the major Indian spices, but no. You'll find staple food items here, such as cheese, filled pasta, yoghurt, milk, orange juice etc, and some fruit and veg, but it's not particularly cheap. Yeah, unless you're desperate you're probably better off wandering down to the tiny Tesco at the petrol station another 100 meters down the road. The photo is a bit crap but I feel it reflects the quality of the shop.

Nour sells things that I have never seen before and it is always an inspiring trip. They stock food goods from most corners of the world including South America, Jamaica, Africa.You will struggle to beat their prices. My trips to Brixton Market always include a stop in here. I frequent The Candy Box for all of my off licence needs. They have sodas, newspapers, lottery…read moretickets, all the products a typical off licence would carry. One thing that makes this place unique is their beer selection. They sell Lowenbrau! What is Lowenbrau? Only the best beer in the world! They also sell other obscure imports from Poland, Italy, you name it they claim it. Their wine selection is also impressive. Even the proper liquor stores around this area have less of an array of alcohol than this tiny little store. So you can get a brew, a lotto ticket, some gum and some candy all in the same place. The guy behind the cash register knows me by name and I go there everyday to pick up one thing or another. It's my favourite off licence ever.
