Been here a couple times, and the three things that really stand out to me are the fresh meats in the back, the endless options for wine, and the yummy cookies (specifically from Santa Cruz's Pacific Cookie Company!). We stopped by here this past weekend before camping, and picked up a few items, and they had everything we needed, including utensils, paper products, matches, and a bottle of red wine we decided to try (Dragon Slayer) which was pretty good. They have a parking lot as well as free street parking right outside. And the service here is friendly and efficient. Even when it looks like there's a line, it goes by quickly. My go-to shop in Santa Cruz for groceries and more.

Pic taken 8/5/19 from their website.... over a month outdated.

I'd love to shop here more, but they don't update their website to show their current specials. It's a bit out of my way, and I only go when I need something that I know they carry. Never answered my email that I sent a month ago to ask them about it. Butcher counter is fantastic, everyone is helpful and they share their tips for cooking your protein choice just right. Check the freezers for a pretty good selection of raw frozen items for those that feed their pets a raw &/or home-cooked diet.

the new butcher undercut my weight by a lot and didn't even put it in a bag. WTF is up with that??

Look no further. These folks go above and beyond with their quality of meat.. freedom meat locker and El Sal are my two must do go to in this area. I wanted to give a particular shout out to their Nuremberg sausage. My mother is from Germany and it's hard even nowadays to find this well of a quality of a sausage in Germany in my opinion.. to me it taste a little more like a Rostbratwurst Rauchzipfel which is really hard to find anywhere in the United States. It's mildly spicy spunky and just super flavorful .Buy some of these babies and just eat them on a roll with some mustard and some sauerkraut or you can do all kinds of fun stuff with them. I have more things I love from this place. I'll just have to post them on or another review, but I just wanted to give a big shout out for those beauty full sausages. If you live local and you haven't checked this place out you're missing out and if you live far away and you're happy to be passing through town I super suggest you stop in and grab some of the lovely things theyhave in the shop. You may pay more than some processed sausage that you get in a supermarket, but I promise you it's worth it.

For a period of time, I was getting my wagyu steaks from Costco for a stellar price per pound when it was in-stock, but they stopped carrying it for a year and a half so it was time to find someplace else to get my wagyu fix. I decided one day to check out this carniceria after walking home from the local farmer's market and lo and behold, my precious wagyu strip steak was staring back at me whispering to buy it. You bet I bought the steak and on a whim too lol. It even came with a certificate of authenticity and a very nice paper bag! The market inside is very spacious and it's clear to me that they keep their store pretty clean as it did have a bleach-like odor. While their primary focus is selling various cuts of "elite" meat, they also offer a selection of marinated protein, and accoutrements. After securing the goods, my husband grilled that baby up and we devoured every sliver of medium rare goodness. It's fatty but in the best way possible and a little goes a long way in terms of getting and staying full. I will definitely be coming back here to try out other cuts of meat!

Their prices have skyrocketed since I first started going here, save yourself some money and shop at Region. Also call prior to going, if you're stopping by right when they open or a few min prior to closing. I've stopped by before to find their store surprisingly closed during their "store hours".

I was there last time for their freshly cooked paella and it was impeccable. Recently we came back…read moretwice, once on Sunday as I forgot that the paella was a Friday thing, so the staff told me that they usually have paella and clam chowder freshly cooked on Friday. They happened to have a small tub of Friday clam chowder left for sale, for a whopping $16! That price dropped my rating to a 4 star. Service is still 5, but man, the value proposition isn't as high as before. The clam chowder tasted good, creamy and all, but $16 for that is really hard to swallow. The store itself is clean and sells a variety of meat products and imported goods such as from Italy. We came again on Friday evening, at 5pm exact and saw the paella pan laid outside with some amount of paella piled up. The pan felt cold and we were confused if they haven't started cooking or those were the left over. So we went inside to ask and they said the paella was available starting at 5pm, so what's on the pan was cooked. We bought 1 portion, which feeds 2-3 and it came in two 16 oz tubs. For $35, it fed my husband and myself just right. The smoky flavor was on the rice with meat and lots of clams and mussels (but not those fatty mussels that you saw in the Belgium style dish). $35 for dinner of two is not as bad value as the $16 bowl of chowder. So overall, 3.5-4 stars for food and value, 5 stars for service and friendliness.

Pretty minimal in that you don't even get a plate; the burger comes wrapped in paper. Burger competition is strong in these parts so something like Super Duper is a tad better at a fraction of the price. Cracked Burger: Looked a lot more appealing than it actually was. I'm obsessed with parmesan crisps, so that drew me to this burger. However, their crisp wasn't all that crispy, like it was made a few days prior. The burger itself tasted like good quality beef, but was pretty dry. Probably a combination of a low fat ratio and cooking well done. Along the same dry theme, the egg itself didn't have any runny parts either. Bunaburger: This simpler burger (bacon, cheese, onions) turned out to be way tastier than the fancy Cracked Burger. For one, it seemed juicer, probably thanks to the fatty cheese and bacon. Also, it went down smooth like a fast food burger, but much higher end. Blackberry Sage Drink: Thankfully heavy on the blackberry bits and light on the sage. A bit like an agua fresca, though not as overly sugary. Quite refreshing.

The shop isn't very big but feels super clean inside and it doesn't have a meat smell. There's two huge meat fridges showing you what they have, plus couple fridges and shelves filled with stuff that you might need to cook with your food like spices, aromatics, seasonings. The staff here are really nice and helpful too. They even give you complimentary containers of their salt rub. My partner and I specifically come here specifically for their Picanha steaks which are extremely high quality and affordable. They're great to cook using the reverse sear method or grill like they do at Brazilian steak houses. They taste fantastic with chimichurri or even just with flaky salt because of how buttery the steaks are on their own. The last time we were here, we got 10 steaks for around $150 and we seriously thought we'd be spending way more. Of course the cost will depend on what you, like the prime rib here is very expensive, but weigh out your options! I do think everything else here seems to be a great price for the quality compared to mass grocers. I'd highly recommend anyone to check out this shop!
