Whenever I'm in the area visiting from out of town, this is one of my go-to spots. The food is always good, and I've enjoyed several items on the menu over the years. The ribs are tasty, the prime rib is excellent, and the cheeseburgers are always a solid choice. It's your typical bar-style food, but it's prepared well and consistently hits the spot. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who happens to be in the area and is looking for a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere. read more

A locals place, some may say it's a dive bar. It's not a big place but it's very popular especially during football season. They have a great happy hour and daily specials. The service was very good and the food was delicious. They do have outdoor seating. Parking is a bit limited. read more

Fish & chips were ok. I ordered this since pubs usually make a decent fish & chips but I got more fries than fish. Fish was flaky but wish there was more of it. Seems like a nice casual hangout spot but probably wouldn't return for the food. read more

Fantastic burger! Delicious onion rings (that stay intact)! Quick & pleasant service! Superb daily & game day specials! Truly a neighborhood gem. The wings are a staple & the locally sourced desserts are worth adding on. The rum mule was thoroughly enjoyed & is recommended (by my friend - I personally didn't try it). You know that feeling when you discover something amazing right next to home and wonder how did I not know this before? That was me today! First time at Shooter McGee's, and honestly, it felt like finding a little hidden gem in the neighborhood. The place had such a lively yet cozy vibe ,friendly faces, warm lighting, and that classic pub charm that instantly makes you feel comfortable. I went with my husband and best friend, and it turned into one of those easy, laughter-filled afternoons that you never plan but end up cherishing. We ordered the Blackened Bistro Steak Medallion Risotto one with beef, one with chicken and the Grilled Pork Chops. Everything came out perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and beautifully plated. The risotto was creamy, the seasoning just right comfort food with a little kick. Sometimes the best moments really are this simple good food, good company, and a new favorite spot found by accident. read more

Have lived here for decades and am just now trying this place. Upon entering, you immediately get a comfy, neighborhood bar vibe, despite the relatively modern aesthetic. Old fashioned- ummm, I'm not sure if this is how normally make their old- fashioneds or if my request for light syrup threw the bartender off, but my drink pretty much consisted of a shot of bourbon with an orange peel in it. I have noticed that some other establishments are less generous with their cocktail volume than others, so perhaps that is the standard here. Lobster crabcake sandwich - omg, do they have any salt left in the kitchen?? Perfect consistency and golden bun but the meat was practically inedible. I brought the issue to the manager's attention and he immediately took action, despite my insistence on paying for the meal. Stellar customer service! I'll try a second attempt with a salad next time. read more

I have been looking for a place that makes good fish and chips. I have been disappointed by other places in the area who consider frozen fish sticks and frozen fries as fish and chips. Shooter Mcgees fish and chips are legit and you definitely get your money's worth. Jeremiah was my server and he was impeccable. Very pleasant and polite and brought out malt vinegar for the fish and chips without me having to ask. I would definitely come back to try the Thursday BBQ rib special and the pork chops. read more

Walked in on this snowy day to meet my cousin and sister. Sat at the bar. Got shots of tito's. Tried the cheesesteak egg roll, in it piece there was a lot more onion than steak. Ordered the blacked chicken pasta, OMG the best pasta i've had. Definitely will becoming back for that. I've been here one time before and got the burger and it was the best. The service was good. Been to Shooter's twice in the last month. I'd def like to check it out during the day to see how the vibes compares to the nighttime bar scene. I stumbled across this bar one night when looking for something lowkey in the Alexandria area. I can agree with some of the other reviews that mention it's more of a local's bar and they tend to receive the better service. Food is decent overall. I've tried the brisket grilled cheese and I was very impressed. The chicken wings were solid too. read more

This was a most disappointing Mother's Day brunch . We have been there in the past, but today was poor. Has definitely gone downhill. Promised items not available: cut up fruit "not available", blueberry bread "not available. Burrito bland with no seasoning, no spiced sausage. Quiche Lorraine tasted to be store bought; home fries soggy and lukewarm. Far too expensive for the poor quality. read more

I feel like I was robbed. I wanted to make this place my local pub I am from DC but have been living on the West End of Alexandria for three years now. I have always driven by this place, but never stopped then today my car was being repaired by my friend and I said hey why not it's Wednesday let me get some wings. TRASH! The Bartender was definitely nice and OK customer service but I literally ordered Buffalo wings with their shooters barbecue sauce in the side, a.k.a. glorified ketchup, and french fries with their cheese sauce. She clearly did not hear me order all this because they proceeded to only bring me wings with no sauce on them and two sauces on the side . The House made blue cheese tasted like Ken's ranch. I truly feelrobbed. I go to the bar for wings for the atmosphere and for the vibes. I know that I can buy my own 12 pack and make a much better 10 piece swing than most of these places are putting out nowadays, but it sucks when the bartender doesn't even hear what you order and they bring you a bunch of dry wings with no soul some basic House made blue cheese . I will definitely not be back again. If I could go get my money back, I would, but we know that's not how it works. The pictures you see attached is me giving these wings to my Mechanic who is hungry and ate them, but definitely called them basic as well. read more

Came in on a late Sunday night to hangout at the bar. It was the end of the week so their inventory was short and they still made do; when I ordered the sliders the bartender asked the kitchen to cut up some rolls because they were out of the bread usually used for them. So I still got to enjoy what I wanted and both meals were great! Bartender made sure we enjoyed everything and was very kind the whole night. read more

Never trust an establishment that refuses to give you an itemized receipt. The bartender working the night of March 24 goes off on me when I asked her for an itemized receipt. The food here is amazing, but this afternoon, the female bartender kept switching back and forth between normal speech and mocking a speech impediment like it was some sort of inside joke with some of the regulars. First time trying Shooter McGees for Dinner. The server sat us right away and i really like the dining area booths, it's pretty small inside but also has a very nice outdoor seating area. I got the Signature Shooter Burger & my partner had the Half-Rack ribs. The burger was way over seasoned, it tasted like i bit into pure salt. i couldn't finish the burger so i stuck to my fries. The half-rack ribs were good but it was lacking in sauce and the meat portion was not worth the price for half rack ribs. My favorite thing was the fries, onion rings (on the burger) & the mac n' cheese. For 2 people we spent about $50. I do think the food had lots of potential to be great if they just get the seasoning & sauce portions correctly! i would come again to try their brunch ! read more

I stopped by shooter McGee's after being recommended by City Kitchen's manager because their kitchen was closed. It was late at night after taking my daughter to GetAir trampoline park nearby so I did not get to get a full experience. However, the experience I had was a good one! Nice staff, did a to-go order of the steak and cheese egg rolls, and the ribs dinner. Food came out very quickly (maybe 10 mins) and everything was delicious! We decided to stick around and near the bar, despite having a toddler - everyone was very nice and interested in her so it worked out lol.. I would for sure go back for a bite or a drink. Arrived around 6:30 pm on a Friday with my boyfriend and it was fairly empty but as we started eating the place filled up. I started with the french onion soup and it was delicious, 8/10. Better than most onion soups I've had before. Ratio of cheese, bread, onions, and broth was good and it was a decent sized portion. For my entree I got another appetizer because I wasn't too hungry. I got the shooters sliders, 5/10. My boyfriend tried a slider and said it was bland, tasted like "a burger you would have at a 4th of July cookout." The service and atmosphere were average, had bar area, dining room, and outdoor seating. Overall, we had a pleasant experience at Shooter Mcgees and would return. Thursdays karaoke night is where it's at and their desserts never miss! Also the bartender knows how to make a good mojito!

4.5 stars. The food focuses on pub staples but does them well. I've brought my parents here for dinner and brunch before and everyone's been happy with their meals. Service is consistently good. The bartenders are great at remembering names and usually address me on a first name basis when I walk in. But where they excel is their happy hour. I'm a sucker for burgers and wings, and on Mondays and Tuesdays (respectively) those are on special. They have an especially great assortment of both. There have been many nights where I've polished a dozen wings with a beer or two as my dinner. Come for dinner, but definitely come for happy hour. read more

Cozy ambiance. There is outside and inside seating. I was seated right away. I liked that I can see the bars TVs from pretty much every table and still enjoy nice music playing in the dining area. Monday's is a good day for $12 burgers. The menu shows a good selection of beers and wines. I started with a classic margarita. Pretty good over all. I ordered the chicken wings and the half rack ribs with mash potatoes and coleslaw. The wings hit the spot. I was craving the buffalo sauce. Wings were meaty. Yum! Ribs were meaty and falling off the bone. Mash potatoes were not served with gravy. Coleslaw was what I expected. They served generous portions. I had enough left overs for lunch the next day. Servers were attentive and constantly check on me. read more

Great food and beer for great prices. Came here on a weekday with friends and had 3 beers and the wings. The wings were cooked really well. The meat just falls off the bones. The beer is great. I usually don't post about restaurant experiences because I rarely have a bad one. However, living in this era of blatant racism has compelled me to share for the first time, I experienced at this restaurant. My husband and I often dine at Shooter McGee's, where we celebrated our marriage shortly after saying "I do" at the Justice of the Peace almost nine years ago. It's our tradition to return to the same table every anniversary. Our experiences have always been wonderful until Valentine's Day. We made a reservation for 6:30 PM, and I was dressed and ready on time. Unfortunately, our special table was unavailable, a sign of the rude awakening to come. Our waitress was friendly and took our drink orders, then returned to take our meal orders. We chose their three-course special: a salad for me and crab bisque for my husband. I also ordered an extra appetizer, the steak and cheese egg rolls. But we waited--patiently, at first--for our appetizers. As we waited, I couldn't help but notice a couple of a different race, seated after us, receiving their burgers, which take longer to cook than our soup and salad. Other white couples ordered and received their food one by one while we sat there, still waiting. I finally caught our waitress's attention and expressed concern, mentioning how others who ordered after us were already enjoying their meals. I told her about our long-standing loyalty to the restaurant. She apologized and explained that the restaurant was overbooked. I calmly replied, "What does that have to do with us not receiving our appetizers while others who came after us had both their appetizers and entrees?" She promised to get her manager. When the manager arrived, I recounted my experience. Her nonchalance only fueled my frustration. While she apologized and offered to cover our appetizers and drinks, we had to wait longer for the food to arrive. When it finally did, my salad contained ingredients I had explicitly requested to be left out, and the soup was cold, soon after, the other appetizer arrived. At that point, I was done. I told the waitress we were leaving. She went to get the manager again, who returned with a check for food we hadn't received. She claimed she would cover it but insisted we pay for the drinks because we had consumed them. I was distraught, and as tears fell, my Davie knew we needed to go now. We paid the check and vowed never to return to the new "Racist Magee's." With nowhere else to go and every other restaurant booked, we settled for a sub shop. I had a chicken cheesesteak, and my husband ordered a steak and cheese. We went home, ate, and went to bed. I was emotionally drained and hurt by the experience, but I know this is only the beginning of our fight against racism. Shooter McGee's you may have ruined my dinner, but you certainly didn't ruin my night! read more

Update. Came here again to sit at the bar and eat...to attempt dine in again. FOOD: lol didn't stay so I didn't eat HOWEVER.. I have ate here before and I know all the food is delicious so it was a bummer AGAIN. I added a star because my previous rating was service only. SERVICE: still poor. Bar tables not cleaned still lack luster service & preference to regulars first. Ambiance: odd feels like the renovation unfinished. ... like they didn't make It to the bar side. It's a hole in the wall renovated before the pandemic but still has the old rustic feel in the bar area but doesn't match the dining area.. also it's really dark in there lighting is just poor.
