We had the pleasure of dining at Shokudo on King St over the weekend & enjoyed our dinner, albeit we felt a little rushed. I have determined and come to expect that this is the norm in almost every restaurant within the USA. It is just the way it is unfortunately. This Japanese restaurant is really beautiful, the staff were wonderful & the food was good. I loved the idea of small plates & the server did an excellent job explaining the dishes to us. Shokudo is ideal for large groups, right in the heart of upper king St. Check it out.

We came here for dinner with reservations, and the host took us directly to our table. The restaurant was a bit loud, and the lighting was on the dim side, so it was a little hard to read the menu good thing we can use our phone's flash light. Our server, Chris, was knowledgeable about the menu and often checked on us to make sure everything was good. The food came pretty quickly, and we didn't feel rushed. This place offers a variety of Japanese dishes. For dinner, we had wagyu gyoza (with handmade dumpling skins), the hand roll A5 beef tartare, Otoro 25 (which we highly recommend), karaage chicken, which was okay but a bit flavorless, uni toastettes, and the must-order Nagoya mazesoba ramen noodles, which were cooked perfectly to my preference. We also had the shaved ice, which was very refreshing and delicious, and the masa apple pocket (I don't remember the exact name, but it looked like a hot pocket). Dinner and drinks added up quickly because most of the dishes were tapas-sized, with the exception of the ramen. Overall, it's worth visiting for a date-night kind of dinner.

all i could say was "wow" after each bite. the freshness, the authenticity, all the food was absolutely delicious. we started off with the edamame and the fries which were both cooked to perfection. the fries had such a good seasoning on them and the sauce that came with it was a 10/10. i got the dumplings (9/10) and the crab fried rice (7/10) as the mains. for drinks, i got a lemon drop and a lime drop, both so refreshing. the service was AMAZING, shout out to Halle! the place was such a vibe. good music, Studio Ghibli playing on the tvs, and the lighting, perfect for pictures. i 100% recommend this place!

I went here for dinner with friends and we had such a lovely time! First of all the ambience is so nice, it's dimly lit and has a cozy feel with an open kitchen! I loved the vibe that they saw and it's the perfect place for dinner. Our server was really kind, and everyone who we encountered was super friendly and welcoming, which I really value at a high-end restaurant! We started with the edamame, chicken skewers and fries, which were all SO yummy. The edamame and fries had a delicious seasoning on them and it was just what I was looking for it. For our entrées, we got the Japanese curry, the regular curry and vegetable curry which were good. I do wish the veggie curry had more vegetables and a bit more flavor bc I felt like it was mostly noodles and a pretty thick broth but still good. Overall such great vibes, delicious food, and wonderful service!!!!

We visited Skokudo during Charleston's restaurant week so we were able to try a bit of everything. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were great! We tried the shishito peppers (really good and super good snack), the tuna crudo (SO good and fresh), and pho and crab fried rice. The pho and fried rice were very good but also very rich. I should've ordered something a little lighter to break it up. The ube tart and the miso caramel soft serve were really good! I would go back for the soft serve alone! The restaurant is beautiful and the perfect spot for date night or a fancy girls night. It's dark and moody and a great selection of bar, booth and high top seating.

This year's Restaurant Week experience was spectacular. This was my first time at @shokudochs and the vibe was very inviting thanks to the amazing staff. The restaurant week menu had so many options to choose from. It was a 4-course meal for $50. The edamame was a table favorite. I didn't even get a pic of my crudo because it was so good. Our server said the Nagoya Mazesoba was a kitchen favorite and it did not disappoint. Very flavorful and creamy. Highly recommend this place it was great. My favorite drink was The "Yuzu-al" suspect

Words cannot express the magnificence of the meal we enjoyed this evening at Shokudo. From the moment we walked in, the host warmly greeted us, and you could immediately FEEL the love for the cuisine in the atmosphere. Every single person working tonight expressed excitement about something on the menu, which is so encouraging when you're dining at a restaurant for the first time. We got to the restaurant early for our reservation, so we sat at the outside bar. The bar manager walked us through the cocktail list, passionately telling us about the techniques and curated spirits used on their menu. Each signature cocktail we ordered was unique, thoughtful, and well-balanced. After we sat at the table, we were introduced to the menu with stellar recommendations from our server, Ashleigh. She was incredible, and guided us through the experience with knowledge and, yet again... genuine passion for the food. Each course was expertly executed, well balanced, and left us feeling grateful for having experienced it. I feel like there has been some chatter about Shokudo since it opened, but not NEARLY enough for the quality of the meal we just had. This is a must-visit when you are downtown,l. Attached is the menu with the items we enjoyed highlighted. Was it entirely too much food? Yes. Are we grateful to have experienced each bite? 1000% Thank you to the Shokudo team for a memorable anniversary dinner. We cannot wait to come back.

Solid Japanese spot off of King St. Not a traditional sushi restaurant but incorporates a lot of Japanese bites. A darker but intimate ambiance. The play here is to order a bunch of different small plates and share amongst yourself and others. Although this leads to a pricier bill, it doesn't diminish the quality of the food. Service was friendly and food came at a reasonable time after ordering. Drinks were also quite impressive.

A comfortable yet lively atmosphere, excellent food and service create a hot spot for dinner. All of the food is well prepared, and good quality with creative twists like bonito flakes on charred edamame. The Wagyu short rib skewer is memorable and so are the yucca fries and spicy mayo. Staff is knowledgeable about the menu and attentive to any needs. I also like the sake' selection and view of the open kitchen.

    BBQ Pork Ribs - WOW

Amazing!! We wanted to order everything on the menu. Such unique options. We had bbq ribs (highly recommend), shishito peppers, gyoza, beef tongue skewer, and the black cod skewer (melts in your mouth). The food was fantastic. I will be back

We have ate and drank in Charleston the past few days and this is the by far the best! The atmosphere is a chill trendy vibe and the drinks and food are amazing! I highly recommend the "I Shishito you Not" drink! The most balanced drink we have had with a kick! We had skewers, dumplings, ribs, chicken thighs, and everything was amazing. I absolutely couldn't pick a favorite. Holly, our bartender, was knowledgeable and had great suggestions and vibrate attitude you want in a mixologist! You will not regret coming here!

Great food, but the serving size is extremely small for the price. Most dishes are barely two bites. Not worth it.

I went to Charleston to visit my sister and brother-in-law over Valentine's Day weekend and we were able to secure a reservation at sushi Wa and we had a great time. There are two owners and they're the ones that are making the sushi right in front of you. It is Omakase style and every single piece of sushi that I had was amazing and very unique from anything I've ever had. They suggested sake that would work well with what we were having for the night so we split a couple bottles . At the end of the experience you're able to choose, however many pieces that you liked from what they served us and they will make them for you again . One of my favorites was the Wagyu beef. It's a very small, intimate, place and they only have about 16 seats at the bar so it's really hard to get a reservation and if you do don't pass it up because we had a great time. Hopefully when I visit again we can come back and taste some more unique pieces of sushi !

We had their crispy spicy tuna appetizer with crispy square rice on the bottom and they were so good. For the main entree I ordered their butabara kimchi ramen and it was what I needed, the broth was rich, savory, and the kimchi really brings the broth flavor more dimensional. The ramen noodle texture was cooked to perfection and the pork belly paired so well in this ramen. My husband ordered the A5 wagyu rib eye and the steak melt in your mouth. There's a great selections of Japanese Whiskey, Sake and cocktails. We had a reservation and when we entered it was a bit confusing with people all over the place in the entrance not sure whether waiting to speak to the hostess or just casually waiting to be called for their table. After getting sorted we spoke to the hostess and then were shortly seated. The waiter came and took our drink orders right away. We got 2 cokes and a Whiskey Sour with Japanese Whiskey. After waiting about 15 min the waiter came back to take our food order, however we still had not gotten our drinks. We asked and said they were coming swiftly. Finally after 10 minutes later our drink orders came in. The cokes were flat but the Whiskey Sour was really good. I can't remember the waiters name but honestly she came by maybe 4 times the whole night and did not have the best attitude. The best thing about Ukiyo hands down was the food. Everything from the Ramen to the wagyu bao buns, just Wow. The wagyu was so crispy and just melted in your mouth. The ramen had amazing flavor profiles and was perfectly spiced. We also ordered the Chicken Karaage and this was so tender with the citrus mayo. This was also pretty big so were easily filled with all these dishes. The food and cocktails were amazing but the service really did disappoint from the delays and infrequent interactions.
